In 1999 the Rose Bowl was completely full- 100,000 people- to watch the United States Women's Soccer team defeat China in the WWC Finals. It was the most people ever to watch a live women's sporting event. It was in July and there were no other sports to compete with it. The girls were the hot ticket of the summer. In 2003, they had the WWC in the fall in the United States. Granted they had only a few months to sell tickets, because of the SARS epidemic in China the US was given the right to host, but they still only averaged 10-15k fans a game. They were competing with college football, baseball playoffs and whatever else was going on that year. The USWNT and it's following was nothing more than a fad that has come and gone. I'm not so sure that we will ever witness something like 1999 again....and believe me, I'm not anti-women I'm quite the opposite. Tell me my daughter won't succeed at something because she is a girl and I'll let you have an earfull or two. When you are deaf, I'll still be talking........... Anyway, Poobah, I hope you are right. This is one of those things that I would love to be wrong at.

Ralph Engelstad Arena will not, in my lifetime, be completely full to watch a women's hockey game. Sorry, nothing against the team, it just won't happen. Programs like the Tennessee women's bb team took DECADES of success to get the fans in the seats. By the way- I would LOVE to be wrong.

Ooh, that would open up the Shattuck pipeline on the women's side. Or maybe Jenny Porter has already opened up that door. I would love to see Paul back on the Fighting Sioux bench. I think that would be great for the program.

Lol....that's what he told you. It went for $500. Everyone needs a little extra cash this time of year. Just kidding, I have no idea what it went for, other than it was lower than I thought it would be when I looked.

There's no doubt in my mind that Shantel is a very intelligent person. She has a Master's in Engineering for cripes sake. She will bounce back from this quicker than most people would. Meanwhile, I haven't been a very big supporter of the team this year. *hangs head* I think it's because I have more irons in the fire than I did last year. I've only been to a couple games. Maybe as the season unfolds I'll get to more games....or maybe not, since the kiddies hockey seasons are now in 5th gear.

You never want to see something like this, especially at such a young age. Hopefully everything will be okay.

I don't think it made Buning look like a joke at all. I think he was a new AD giving a struggling coach one more go at it. Maybe Rivard having a baby and Peter losing his coaching job when the Mayville State Soccer program was dropped were factored into the extra time. I'm not so sure that they should have been, but not renewing someone's contract can't be any easy decision to make at any point in time. I'm glad that it wasn't my decision to make. Anyway, the past is the past and hopefully the Sioux can turn something around and finish the season on a high point.

I didn't say that someone was a fair weather fan if they complain that one player sucks, nor did I call you a fair weather fan. I'm talking about people who have been whining that they aren't going to any more games this season because the team sucks....and believe me, I've talked to several of them in the last couple days. I didn't mean to imply that it's everyone on these boards either. *whispers* "there's is an interim women's coach"

*spits* I'd rather be a Sioux fan and have a 2-25-0 record than be a Gopher fan one of those seasons that they won it all.

I'm not so sold on the idea that it's just the alcohol talking.........

Oh ye of little faith..... There is no way that players like Toews and Oshie will stay as quiet as they have been so far this season for the entire year. I'm tired of people whining and moaning about the team not being hot out of the gate. Just be patient people. There's no need to toss a noose over the rafters just yet. Real fans stick with their team, no matter how the team is doing. Fair weather fans aren't real fans. Don't get me wrong, I hate sitting at games like this weekend being frustrated when I leave, it's not a time to start bashing players and bitching and moaning and calling for Hakstol's job.

I saw her go left at the cactus just west of the sand dunes, in a dune buggy about a half hour ago. She looked kinda angry but her hair was still perfectly in place-even with the goggles on. She was waving one finger and screaming Sioux-cia something......i dunno. You might wanna be on the look-out.

I saw an interview on CNN of one of the leaders of this church a while back, if it is the same group, almost all of the congregation are members of the same family.
