  1. I'm also looking into finally getting an HDTV. Does anyone have any experience with the newer generation projection HDTV's? I've been thinking of going with a projection over an LCD or Plasma because you can get larger screen sizes. I've seen them advertised up to 82", which I would love, but don't know how much picture quality/clarity I'd be sacrificing compared to an LCD, LED, or Plasma.

I bought a 61" Samsung LED DLP TV almost two years ago. It's FANTASTIC! At the time, DLP produced richer color and better blacks than LCD. I'm not sure about how they compare now since I'm not "actively" researching. The main knock when the DLP TVs first came out was the "rainbow effect" and the need to replace the projection bulb, but that is eliminated with the LED light engine and the subsequent removal of the color wheel. When I bought my TV, similar-sized LCDs were double the price, and not necessarily better picture quality. The price gap is definitely not so much now.

As for general research tips, I echo pretty much everything xl Hammer lx says. I also buy my cables from monoprice.com.

A resource I used a lot when researching my TV purchase was AVS FORUM. Google it.

I totally get where people are coming from with Eidsness - I scratch my head often. That said, as much as he has to stop the ones he's supposed to, the forwards need to bury the ones they're supposed to as well.

I'm getting a little tired of hearing how Eids has to "steal" a game or two for us. The UND teams I'm used to watching rarely need to steal victories - they go get 'em. "Stealing" victories of for our opponents.

Then again, it's not so much that Eids has to "steal" a victory it's more like just don't give it away.

  3. The Sioux were the #1 seed in 2000 when the tournament was in Wisconsin and the Badgers played the evening semi-final while UND played the afternoon semi-final. Yes, the rule has applied outside of the Xcel Energy Center, but only 1 Final Five in recent memory has been played outside of St Paul. That being said, it's time for the Minnesota rule to go. Funny that UMD won the Final Five last year, being the first play-in game winner to do so. However, had the Bulldogs had to play at 2:00 pm Friday instead of 7:00 pm Friday, my guess is they would have run out of gas.

I think you mean 1998, but the same still applies. The 2000 Final Five was at the Target Center, and we won it as, I think, the #2 seed.

Keep in mind that the "Minnesota Rule" has benefitted UND as a #1 Seed in a couple instances when UM was a #2 or #3. We got the Play-In Winner on short rest during Friday afternoon a couple times. Minnesota is NEVER afforded this benefit when they finish #1.

  4. It's kind of a chicken vs. egg thing with this team. Is Eidsness under the microscope here because we can't seem to get to 4 goals on any given night? There's a lot of talk about how we can't seem to recruit a goalie with all the advantages the UND program has, but what about recruiting some bona-fide scorers that can get us to 4 goals in a game more often than not?

We also have four underclass defensemen and a junior coming off a major leg injury in front of Eids. They've played fairly well, but the point about Chay eating up ice time is huge in that regard.

  5. I don't know if they can have the championship on Sunday because that's the day they announce the tournament selections. Although, it's pretty much been straight by the PWR, so it wouldn't be too complicated to figure out on short notice.

I think a Sunday Championship would NOT be as fun, nor as well attended as a Saturday title tilt.

  6. Game over

    5-1 Gophers

And no dirty stuff after the horn (which is good)

Like I said (spun) before, this win just gives the Gophers a better record, which gives are two wins and a tie against them look better :D

When did we beat them the second time? I believe we're 1-1-2...

  7. The Series against the Gophers and SCSU.

You think these series have MORE sweep potential than this weekend at home against Mankato (as per my original question)?

I've been to waaayyy too many series at the National Concrete Center and never come home with 4 points. I think if they sweep @ SCSU it would be the first time in about 10 years.

I just might give you the gopher series, however! :)

  8. Last time I checked, a school like Gonzaga was never in a conference with the big boys, and then left out in the cold when a new conference was created. With a BTHC, every league game would be a rivalry. I'm not saying that UND would have to close the doors to REA and disband the hockey team, but think about it, what looks more appealing 1) playing games against Michigan, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Wisconsin or 2) Mankato State, Nebraska Omaha, St. Cloud, and Bemidji. Be truthful with yourself and don't look at it through green tinted glasses before answering.

I never said a BTHC wouldn't have an impact. I was merely stating that your Gonzaga comparison is a poor one. You even say so in your first sentence above considering UND is already with the "big boys." UND is in a much better position to stay relevant because of its history. Gonzaga is trying to build theirs. Sure, not playing UM or Wisco would mean less appeal and recognition, but I don't think we'd be relegated to a life of one-and-dones come tourney time.

Oh, and if believing the program has enough history and tradition to stand without the likes of Minnesota and Wisconsin means I see things through "green tinted glasses," then so be it. I figured someone living in the past with the moniker "BringDeanBack" could understand that.

  9. People are naive and blind if they don't think BTHC would hurt UND. UND would lose all those games against Wisc and Minnesota. The best UND could hope for is becoming a team like Gonzaga is to college basketball. Play some big boys (usually on the road), beat up on a weak conference schedule, and get beat out in the early rounds of the national tourney.

Last time I checked, Gonzaga doesn't have 7 national titles and the highest all-time NCAA tournament winning percentage in basketball. You're discounting UND's tradition and ability to stand on its own when you make statements like this.

  10. This is going to sound arrogant, but what the hell...

Genoway is a complete defenseman, but I think what we really are missing from him is on ice leadership and the offense from the blue line.

We are NOT lacking on defense. I still think our D can handle UMD's top line. The question is who makes more mistakes and can the other team make it count.

My thoughts exactly. There's a C stitched on his sweater for a reason.

  11. However, besides Chay Genoway, the older leaders haven't led like they should in the way of just getting the puck in the net on a consistent basis.

On a more positive side, I think this team has championship pieces in place. All our scoring guys won't go anywhere but up, and if our defense continues to stay stout, I wouldn't want to place us. I actually haven't felt as good about a team's chances since 06-07.

I agree with these statements 100%. I like the makeup of this team. They just need to get a little more from their upperclassmen, and I'm confident it will happen.
