  1. I'm not necessarily going to complain about Kristo at this juncture, since it seems that every season we eventually reach a point where we start complaining about "one too many passes" leading to missed opportunities by the forwards. We may grow to appreciate his willingness to let it fly.

  2. how could you not know that they know that!? would be a better question.

like it was stated before, the speech was given to the Olympic team, not the Gophers. There may have been a lot of Gophers on that team, but they are still Team USA and most aren't going to cheer against their own country (including me) because of where they players came from and it was a great moment in hockey history.

Yes, but the context of the speech was that "their time is DONE! This is OUR TIME"

Given how the UND/UM rivalry has been so one-sided in UND's favor lately, the Gophers could have used that speech as a little inspiration! :D

  3. I'd bet Maturi actually looked at the money the current alignment brings to Minnesota's coffers, and figured it made no fiscal sense to upset the apple cart. Sorry, but duhOhio State and WMU are not going to fill Mariucci like UND, St. Cloud or even UMD usually do.

I bet the current luxury of having the conference tourney in their backyard every year was another consideration. I don't think they'd get that every year with a BTHC.

Please note - I'm not complaining about the gophers getting to "host" the final five every year, as I very much enjoy the tourney at the X and feel it's the best venue.

  4. I got the football yesterday around 75%, tonight the hockey was about 69-79%, but then the last few minutes of the game it jumped to 73% Quality.

Yeah, I had the football game at 73%, but last night's hockey game came in around 58%-60%. I figured it was maybe due to a different type of cloud cover (because there was drizzle on Saturday), but after the game the stars were out and the quality was still down in that range. I still had a great picture, though.

  5. In reality it will only affect the conference tourney seedings; the PWR will still determine the national scene.

That said, late in the season CCHA coaches are now going to be faced with the decision to go all-out in a tie game for an extra conference point, or hold back to avoid losing a game and points in the PWR. I'm interested to see how this affects the teams on the PWR bubble in that conference.

  6. DirecTV has to be able to deliver FCS Pacific to the west and FCS Atlantic to the east, so is it possible that for those of us in the FCS Central zone the feeds for the other two FCS channels will be on one of the RSNa channels and available via the sports pack?

I have the FTA setup and plan to use it for the reasons stated here, but I don't see why DirecTV would have an issue accessing/broadcasting all three of the FCS channels either on 617 or via the RSNa channels. I guess we'll find out this weekend!

  7. I think they look pretty good, but the triangle area on the collar (where the NHL crest is on the NHL jerseys) should have been done away with if they aren't going to put anything there. It looks kind of weird on the green and black jerseys to have a big white triangle of nothingness above the Reebok logo. Maybe they should have put the RBK symbol there instead of spelling "Reebok" across the bottom of the collar. Or, they should have left that area the same color as the main jersey color. It's not as noticeable on the white jerseys because that area is black.

  8. One thing to note about Russo's article is that one of the key statements was...

...dump it where the goalie can't play it.

The NHL has restrictions on where the goalie can play pucks. The NCAA does not.

Dump-and-chase may be able to play into a more up-tempo style in the NHL given the restrictions on the goalies.

  9. I picked up a 61" 1080p Samsung LED DLP TV last year for under $1900...the picture is amazing, but I don't see many DLP sets available now since the LCDs are coming down in price for the bigger screen sizes. When I was shopping for my TV a comparably sized "Flat Panel" TV was up around $4K - $6K. Couldn't beat the price to screen size ratio of the DLP, and the picture quality (blacks, colors) is fantastic. I sacrifice a little bit in viewing angle, but it's stellar for watching Sioux hockey on the FTA dish!! Blu-Ray on the PS3 is top-notch.

The point about HDTV being "force-fed" to the public is a bit much. Nobody is forcing anyone to go HDTV, just digital, and apparently that wasn't force-fed well enough because they still had to push the transition back to this past June.

  10. I hate to say it but the first 2 sentences are close to being true. The "market" determines what prices are set at. Where his reasoning goes in the toilet is the last 2 statements. The market is now world wide and this bill will put us at a competiltive disadvantage with most countries (China and India). So what does it do? It puts additional costs on US businesses which in turn will HURT American consumers & business. Some cost can be passed on but you can only pass on so much until your cost of goods are too high conpared to your competition (world). The American consumer will suffer, American businesses will suffer, and America as a whole will suffer. For what? Phony science?

The key statement here is that THE MARKET DETERMINES PRICE. So, when a company is hit with another tax or increased cost that reduces their profit margin, the only way to continue to make that profit is to get rid of variable costs, the largest component of which is usually labor.

I guess the silver lining is that even if prices rise you won't have to worry about it if/when you have no income to buy things with, right?

  11. Huh ? Please explain.

Last year UNO averaged around 6200 fans/game at home. Not bad but they could have had significantly more, the Quest Center capacity is 16,680.

Why would the WCHA want to move the premier event to Omaha ?

The XCEL capacity is 18,064. The Final Five is close to a sellout every year there.

Why would they risk moving it to a smaller venue that has not shown they would be able to support it ?

It is also a further drive for fans of almost every team.

Additionally, UNO has not shown they can be a top club, so what is the likelyhood they would even make the final 5(6) ?

If they don't make it do you really believe they could sell out the arena ? That's what would need to happen for the WCHA to even consider it.

What are the advantages to the league in holding it in Omaha. I don't see any, only a loss of revenue.

Heck, The Ralph would be a better site than Omaha based on these statements.

  12. It isn't a matter of right or wrong, it's a difference of opinion. Surely you aren't so full of yourself that you define somebody's opinion as "wrong" just because you don't feel the same way... are you?

Yet you say the majority of us are not using the "proper perspective." It would seem to me that perspective would drive opinion, so in essence you're calling the majority opinion wrong as well.

  13. Of course I think before I start typing, and what I typed makes perfect sense to me. Anybody who assaults another human being deserves to be on the receiving end of a massive beatdown. The only time I condone violence is in retaliation for something done to hurt somebody outside of the context of a contact sport. If you don't agree, so be it. Get over it and accept the fact that I have some opinions that are not the same as yours. This just in... the rest of the world doesn't think exactly like you do. Deal with it.

Question - Does the "context" of the game only consist of when the puck is in play or does it include the time after the whistle? Or, is it defined by the rule book? How do you define the "context" of the game?

  14. I'll take TO on my team. He may shoot off his big mouth more than he should, but at least he always gives 100% and doesn't go into shutdown mode when the going gets tough. TO on his worst day is ten times the WR that Moss is on his best day. Moss is very effective as a deep threat only, but not a complete WR. In his career he has only been effective when he's the 2nd leading receiver on his team. In Minnesota when he was 2nd to Carter and in New England where he's 2nd to Welker. When counted on to be the go-to guy, during his last couple of years in Minnesota without Carter and during his time in Oakland, he was a trainwreck.

You better do some research bro.

    Without Carter Moss did:

    2002: 106 rec, 1347 yds, 7 TD

2003: 111 rec 1632 yds, 17 TD (looks like a career year to me...)

    2004: 49 rec (13 gms), 767 yds, still put up 13 TD

Considering his highest catch total when Carter was there was 82, I'd say he carried more of the load once he left. Now, go to Wes Welker's stats before 2007 and tell me who's numbers ballooned as a result of Moss on the Pats in 2007.

  15. Most overrated player of all-time. He only runs one route, down the sideline top speed and then go up for the jump ball. No thanks, give me a WR who is willing to go across the middle to make the tough catch on 3rd and 7.

LOL...the defense knows what he's going to do every play and they still can't stop him. I call that domination!
