I know some may not be a fan of this thinking, but I’d still like to see NCHC win the natty this year. Idc who just keep it in conference and keep our league tops in the country.

I usually cheer for the NCHC or WCHA. Which has historically just meant the NCHC

  2. Idk. I think there is something to be said for the coaching. Players simply haven't developed well. Our special teams play was dreadful, players took dumb penalties, and took dumb shots. All of which, to me, indicate bad coaching strategy.

Now sure. They out skated, out pocessed, and some might say out played, the teams that beat us and that indicates good coaching.

Overall this team underperformed all year. While it obviously played a huge role, it's unjust to use the Cansius series as the sole reason we didn't make it. We lost or tied several other games to weak teams and blew several 3rd period leads. Correcting any of those could have put us in the tournament as well. That all being said I'd still give Berry another year to see if he can fix his weak spots.

Yeah, this is no different than high school sports ("all about teaching life lessons" and "all about the relationships"). (sarcasm) :silly::angry::(

This mentality has infected all of our programs. And as long as it is in place, we will win nothing of significance ever again. #hadenoughyet?

I don't think that's accurate. Nor was I saying that I was happy about this season's results in any sport frankly. Nor was i super happy about any of the contract extensions coaches have recently received. But let's be realistic here. The school is not in a position to buy out a coach 3 years after he won a natty. The school is broke and I've lost count of how many sports and academic programs were cut by Schafer and Kennedy. The best we can do is hope Berry turns things around next year.

Two years in a  row being in the bottom of the league In scoring and PP % is a trend and Berry needs to address this. The puck luck and hot goalie excuse is worn out, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is insanity. Adams was a scorer in the USHL, Weatherby in the BCHL and Mismash with the USDT. Berry needs to find a system That balances his defensive strategy with an offense that scores more than 1 goal a game. If he has a third year like the last two he may become unemployed.

Yeah but his unemployment check will still be more than most of us make in a year.

  5. A lot of focus has been on Cansius but in truth we lost a lot of games we could have won against good teams. We kost a few against bad teams. We barely beat a few others. Hell we barely beat Manitoba.

A lot of focus has been on on the forwards, but we've lost a few due to bad defense and/or goaltending. This team started out slow and unlike the Hakstol era, did not do well post January.

That all being said the season isn't over. They still can get to the tournament despite the struggles. If we fail to do that I'll give him one more year before I join the mob.

I guess my issue with coaching staff is not on the parking garage fiasco, although that is a shiny example.   Like you I am upbeat on the incoming class, just as I have been with pretty much all incoming classes.  My concern is what is happening after they get to campus, skills progression, and maturity.  Something is amiss and I don't mind if a few claim the emperor has no clothes.  After all isn't the onus of program success squarely on his shoulders?  I don't recall that I called to Fire Hak, definitely not in earnest.  More likely to poke your bar buddy, gfhockey a bit...  lol.

    What parking garage fiasco?

This is my recollection as well, but I guess everything bad at UND is now Kennedy's doing.

If he wasn't forced to use the IAC it would have been different. I thought the IAC did the parading.

*Remember the Faculty screamed bloody murder when Schafer cut baseball and golf.  They got their say and they punted.

While delegations is part of leadership, it doesn't absolve you of responsibility when it's done poorly. Ultimately the IAC and Faison/the IAC made recommendations, the final choice was still his.

Let’s just say that “IF” women’s hockey didn’t get cut, would we be having this discussion. :whistling:

It needed to be cut and if it wasn’t Kennedy, it was going to be someone else. The SBOHE knew this was going to happen and placed a big pile of “sh!t” in front of him.

Let ME pick the $#&&&!!! next president . . . I'm sure I'd agree w/ her. . . The Betty wasn't supposed to be free. .. .there were agreements to pay for it. . . Kennedy is a moron, as shown by his parade of coaches begging for their programs.  (People seem to be forgetting that fiasco. . ) Dance w/ who brung ya. . . not some politician from Minnesota. . . Yeah, let's piss off the 100 million dollar player in the room and see how long it takes the Ralph and the Betty to rot under the North Dakota state budget. GOOD PLAN.  Let's go w/ that. . ..

@Hockeygirl97 nailed it. It's really not just that he cut women's hockey and S&D. It's that he paraded every coach out (except a handful of protected sports, which originally included WH) and said he'd only cut sports once in his admin. Then he said, jk sorry for all the drama. And then he quietly changed his mind and cut sports anyways (including WH, which was previously protected). And while they weren't pulling in tons of money, the sports he cut are more popular than many sports he left behind (track, soccer, tennis etc). Not to mention the school still has the pool to keep up. Obviously he inherited a mess from Kelley/Schafer and made a tough choice and he did so again when we switched to the Summit (which frankly Kelley should have done in the first place). So kudos for that part but beyond that I can't think of a worse way to have handled the AD budget cuts than he did.

  9. Ugh. So back down to 20. We need to make up 7 or 8 spots in the pairwise or win the tournament. I'm an optimist but the light at the end of the tunnel is looking like a small flickering candle with a blizzard on the horizon

    That’s pretty darn near 16!!

Based on the number of conferences you need to be in the top 10 to clinch a spot. Although typically there aren't that many upsets in the conference tournaments

100% chance they announce it this spring, IMO.  With the amount of work they have put into the new arena project and the outspokenness of their AD or President since the NHL sponsored study, I can't see this not happening.  And the more teams the better.  Tons of parity in college hockey, and maybe more teams can help UND separate themselves from the pack again, as talent gets diluted across more teams.

The writing is certainly on the wall. As an IL resident though I dont know how they can justify the costs.

I'm never one to cheer for teams in my conference. I don't really understand it. They are our direct rivals. Why would we cheer for our rivals? With that said, I wouldn't mind if CC won one. Absolutely will not cheer for UMD, DU or SCSU unless they are playing Minnesota or Wisconsin. Maybe BC, too lol.

Mostly I just cheer against the Big Ten.
