The Grady news is just awesome. Hope the secondary can live up to the talk that we have about them regarding improvement. Can't wait for Football to start. It was a great hockey season ... Now it is Football's turn! It all starts with the Spring game. Hopefully a lot of these Freshman intend to be on campus this summer. When I was on the Bowling Green message boards, they have us inked in as an auto-win. Let's go get them! Stony Brook first of course, but I'm really excited to see what we can do against BGSU.

Bowling green better not be over confident as they lost a boat load....a complete overhaul!  This is not to say that they won't be any good, but I for one, have much more confidence in our crew.

Cant say this enough..." Grady, please please please"!!!  This would be absolutely huge for the team and for him personally.  I believe with 3 years of weights he could easily be a 2nd round draft pick.

Cant wait for the spring game on Saturday !!!  Hoping for no injuries but want to see some ball'n from the boys!

Football is a team game. Need to get more than just one player like that every 4 years in order to win championships. That is where sound recruiting and development comes into play.

As much as I put him down, Mussmans 2012 group of recruits was mighty impressive:

Mike Edwards (fbs) currently on the depth chart at memphis

taj rich: 3 year starter for und and in my mind one of the top 10 LBs und has had

brian labat: 3 year starter for und

kenny galloday: (fbs) currently one of the top WRs in college football.

Joe schobert: (fbs) all American at Wisconsin

joe mollberg: at the time,  was possibly considered the best "get" for und ever.

Class also included Braden Hanson, Alec carrothers and luke Mathewson.

Und still has 5 of these to be seniors that are ready to finish their careers at und, hopefully with deep playoff run

  3. There was a lot of changes from 07-13 in regards to the football program that provided the downward spiral and why the average fan might have swayed:

    1. Lennon leaving. Not only a great coach that won a national championship but a fantastic individual!!  This one hurt!  Considering it was in the transition year made it all the more difficult.

    2. Moving to a new conference with no rival as USD backed out at the last second and accepted an invite to the MVFC leaving UND alone on an island.  This left the average fan being familiar with only montana and montana st as a known name or connection.  Still to the day, I believe most people couldn't name 1/2 of the teams in the big sky.  This is where the marketing people and und need to step up and promote each and every team that und plays. Familiarize the fans on who und is playing and the how the big sky is one of the top fcs conference in the nation.

    3.  The school to the south started to become what they are and the bandwagoners were in full adios mode.  Additionally mussman did not recruit locally, in return, these players had no distinct connection to the area.  This led to a digression for tailgating and games as there were fewer and fewer groups of families and friends that attended.

    4. Mussman was a mess of head coach!  Great guy that is better suited for OC.  I've had the pleasure of watching und for 30 years and the anticipation of a beat down didn't exist until his helm.  Every week I had a feeling we could lose or lose big.  Then Sioux Falls happened.....a beat down at home from an NAIA team was the icing on the cake.

    5.  Nick name issue.  Not necessarily on it's own, but in combination with everything else that was going on within the football program it was just adding salt to the wound.

    2014-16: hallelujah!!!!

    1.  Bubba was hired!!

    2. Recruiting locally

    3. Wining record at narrowly missing the playoffs.

    4. Bubba was hired!!!

    5. Und has gone back to its core: defense and run the ball up your throat.

    6. Like it or not the nickname issue is over and ncaa should be off of our backs.

    7. Expectations are finally high going into a season

    8. Bubba was hired!!

what you are seeing currently for the hockey program is what the und fans will do when bubba and crew lift their trophy.

Ok. 6'3" 220 lb linebackers don't go FCS very often. And you are welcome. I will keep it coming...

He would be 6'1" with 4" also.  He currently stands at 5'9"ish

  5. Hockey has been the top sport at und for decades and they have reserved the right as they now have won 8 national championships.   With that said, when und football won their championship in 2001 and runner up in 03, those years and the ones that followed that the attendance was full capacity and a buzz was felt in the alerus. Lennon left and so did the winning as did the bandwagoners.  This was not do to hockey.

One of the things that und football has going against it, is that they will be hard pressed to ever have a night or late evening game, depending on scheduling , due to hockey games played at night.  Evening games seem to bring a more elevated fun factor as you can have social hour or tail gate at a decent time as tailgating in the morning is not for everyone.  It becomes more apparent or noticeable when its HUNTING season and everyone with a beard is rifled up in the shelter belts during game time.  The attendance drops in late November.    This is due to hockey as football cannot schedule night games .

The major unfortunate is that team to the south has pulled the Bandwagoners it's way.  They will be back as bubba is building a team that can and will compete with the other top programs out there.  He literally bleeds Kelly green and puts his everything towards the kids.  This is not due to hockey. This is due to mussman.

Und supports it's football program and all other athletics quite admirably.  Football is on the way back and gaining steam.   Its tough to say if that winning a championship in hockey would necessarily have any effect on the other athletic programs at und as they have been a perennial power since the 50s. Or Maybe with the hockey team winning last night it will excite the bandwagon jumpers to come back and support all und athletics.  I just don't see a direct  correlation between a hockey championship and how it would affect the football program, but none the less a championship regardless of sport is a good thing to a university.

How many 6'3" 250 LB linebackers sign at FCS schools? That is what he is trying to tell you. If he was that size he may have had P5 offers, and he may have taken one of those offers over a UND offer.

He wasn't 250 when he arrived.  Will put in the time here at und to raise his numbers all around including speed.  Thanks for your input.

Haha, my opinion of course doesn't measure up to yours.

My opinion has no measurements.  Your general statement was very clear on your opinion so I was wondering if you directly knew something.

If he was 4-5" taller he wouldn't have played for us.

Really!?  Did he tell you that or are you presuming that since he is now a potential draft choice?   Let me know your insight please

Just a reminder of how good Will Ratelle is. He certainly deserves a chance to make an NFL roster; he's got the ability.

Will is a physical specimen!  Wish he could of been 4-5" taller as he would be a 2-3rd rounder.  He has all the numbers, minus the height, that the nfl scouts are looking for.  Best of luck to will!!!!

  10. To me, it's both comical and frustrating but just old and boring that there is talk continually on here about moo u.   Yes it is a forum, as the opposers will point out, .....it's called Siouxsports !!!!!!  That means UND!!!  People from opposing teams are welcome to come here, but your delusional if you don't think there's going to be a lash out to those that come here and either twist things up or constantly talk about how their team is so above ours.   Wentz seems like a nice enough guy, that's all I have.  This shouldn't be on a und forum.  Right now, will ratelle talk should be the only player being talked about on here for the up coming nfl draft.  He played for und is a complete beast,  hope to god he gets drafted as he has put in some serious time for this program.  Maybe someone should bring the will ratelle talk to the moo u forum,  however it won't be me as i have no intention to ever visit that site.

It's just going to have to be next man up.   Every program has defections and we have to deal with it, even if it puts a big hole in a few places.   Hopefully we don't lose any more and we don't have any more off field incidents.  Whenever we lose a player it does make a guy wonder if we are really recruiting the right people?

The issue right now with und is quality experienced depth at certain or several positions. It's getting better but defections kill that momentum.    The last few years when it has been next man up, the odds are is that it is has usually been a true freshman.   A select few(true fresh) are gifted enough to play immediately but more often then not these young men need some time in the weight room to develop the physique required to play.  They also need the time to learn the playbook, adapting to the speed of the game,  team mate bonding..etc.  This all can be done in practice and hopefully not in games.  Unds next man up is not where it needs to be at.  The d line and rbs are the exception, as they have great talent, depth and experience.  The defense overall seems to be in decent shape for the next man up.  The o line is extremely thin as is the qb an now wrs.   As it stands right now, the offense cannot afford the next man up.

  13. I feel bad for seibel.  He is a great example of what hard work can do.  Hope it is not a major injury.  Unfortunately a knee injury to anyone is significant but to a wr who is constantly cutting and running is extreme bad news.

Iwarri.....why why why!??  Not sure if this was a coaching decision based on recently happenings or if he simply left, regardless I can sum this up with one word: frustrating!!!

Walker added depth but hasnt really panned out.  The loss where he will felt is depth and experience.

As far as next year, Clive I believe ( barring he exits or injury) looks to have upgraded himself nicely.  Not sure on his blocking  skills but has everything else...speed, cutting and sure handed.

Stanley is a good sized wr that brings experience, sure hands and fantastic blocking skills. Doesn't bring the speed.

Dulin has all the tools and needs to use them. Has a year of the offense under him.  More importantly he needs to stay!!!

Carr is the wild card.  Like seibel, he works extremely hard.  Been looking good is spring ball per Teeder.

Blackwell is another wild card.  Not completely sold on him yet but nice size.

I wish we could be at a "place" to where we didn't have to depend on true freshman!   Experience is massively important.

If I had guess, starters will be Clive and Stanley with Carr and dulin backing them up.

In this style off offense the wrs are not used that often in the passing game but are absolutely crucial in the run/blocking game.   That's where seibel and Stanley separate themselves.   I hope dulin, Clive, Carr and Blackwell are able to prove themselves reliable to do the dirty work as well.

  14. The secondary should be much improved.  It's just that this style of defense puts immense pressure on the dbs.  They are still very young but poses great talent and now have experience and depth!   The few spring practices that I've taken in, jahmere, Harris and hunt have been fantastic.  It would not surprise me to see jahmere and hunt starting.   This is nothing against Harris and carter it's the fact that these two just seem to the "it" factor.  Hunt is a special talent and truly believe he has the skills to succeed at this level.  Both held fbs scholarships which speaks in itself.  If the dbs carry over to regular season play to what they are doing in spring ball I believe the secondary could be one of Unds strengths.

Well, maybe if UND had former players in the NFL, this thread would survive without talk about former Bison...

Your the greatest ever!!!  Not even close!!

  16. I'm beginning to think that Siouxsports and their message should consolidate. They are obviously coming here to get validation and we should oblige and give it to them in heavy doses and see if that whisks them back their home base.   Once they get their validation an get bored I see them trickling off to the next message board.   So here it is moo moo u, YOU GUYS ARE THE GREATEST!!!!  And it's not even close!!

I think I will have that comment following any moo talk from now on

  17. Cannot help but think our secondary will be vastly improved. Not only in experience but the individual improvement of jahmere.  Jahmere has been lights out the few times I saw him and he obviously has the talent having played in the sec.   Also Torrey hunt is perhaps the most talented db on the roster.  Not only do I think they pull his redshirt, I believe he has a great chance to start.  As talented as holm is, he might be redshirted because of what's in front of him.   The depth, experience and talent in the secondary is far ahead of last year.  They will still be extremely young as there is no seniors on the current depth chart but from having played so many true freshman over the last two years the experience is much better.  Nice to have a talented experienced depth chart in the secondary.

Biggest question by far is the o line.  Very thin in numbers as well as the experience factor.  Cannot sustain any more losses in the offseason or injuries.

Depth behind Keaton scares the hell out of me.   Never been sold on Bartles and heidlebaugh is an unproven freshman.

With their schedule next year there's no reason why und couldn't go at least with a 9-2 re cord or maybe 10-1.  I'm really liking their chances against bowling green now as well.  Again, to me, the o line is the question mark on how they gel, mesh and gain experience that is critical come conference play.

  18. Attended practice today for about half hour. Couple things:

I truly believe Hunt has a chance to start.   He has all the skills just a bit of a tweener.

Violent blocking hit between santiago and jahmere followed by the two face masking it up and santiago shoving jahmere to the ground.  Love the intensity, just a weird interaction between team mates afterwards that I can only hope was a one time deal. Jahmere immediately left the field to vomit numerous times.

Heidlebaugh looked much better today.  Seems to be reading the defense a little better and making crisper throws.

    Keaton looked good.

Jawon has the speed at OLB to be a menace to offenses. He could very well be the secret assassin this year.
