A another interesting stat from that game is PSU had the ball for 25 more minutes then EWU did.  ToP was 42 min-18 min in favor of PSU.  That is crazy...

    That is pretty insane.

Also of note ....EWU had two 100+ yard rushers and one at 89 yards.  387 total rush yards with 18 mins of TOP.

  2. Defensively NAU gives up 34 ppg and 215 rushing yards a game.  Und should, SHOULD, thrive with their running game.

This is senior day for NAU ....that could spark some excitement for them but UND is playing for a potential playoff spot.  It’s UNDs seniors that will be playing for continued college play.  Hopefully that ignites UND to play it’s best.  If UND is “on” I could then pulling away for a victory.

    GO GREEN!!!

Why do you care about fake team like UND? Everything you type is just a joy. Find something you enjoy and don’t buzz kill the board for the rest of us.

My frustration the last few years boils down to how unds offensive talent is being wasted.

I’ve said it before but don’t take my constant disproval towards Rudy as I though I don’t care about und football. It’s quite the opposite. I attend numerous spring and fall practices and haven’t missed a home game in 7 years. I bleed Kelly green.

I totally agree - my question is "what in the wild wild world of sports does Bubba see in him?" Bubba just doesn't seem to be able to grasp this - this is why Bubba needs to go - much more for this than not making the playoffs.

Yeah one would think that Bubba would admit to the fail offense...looks like loyalty trumps production.  Bubba is ok with being average

I skipped a few pages, so apologies in advance if this has all been said before:

    • I don't know that UND football has risen to the place where you can fire a head coach and most/all assistants when a team is poised to go 7-4 and MAY make the playoffs
    • The AD is in his first year. This would be the offseason for him to lean on Bubba to make changes or make them himself if Bubba can't or won't
    • I personally admire that Bubba has created a culture where assistants want to stay. Stability is good - to a point - and making changes for the sake of change can just as easily backfire. Bubba and staff have moved a miserable program back to respectability and beyond. That should count for something.
    • Now it's time for the university's board, president, and AD to decide: How good do we want the football program to be? What investments are we willing to make toward that goal, and what level of performance do we demand? Kennedy seems quite willing to make hard choices and Chaves doesn't strike me as a man that's satisfied with mediocrity. Time will tell.
    • Some asked this - but I didn't see an answer: Bubba's contract was extended after the 2016 season, so he's under contract through the 2021 season.

As for me, I want to see a win vs. NAU on Saturday. I want to see UND football continue to progress. Playoffs or not, marquee wins or not, a 7-4 season is good for everyone but the Bubba-haters that already exist. Go Hawks

These are the issues associated with und football.  In year five, a 7-4 ( still could be 6-5 ) season is an average season...or as you said ....”good”.  “Good”=average.  Ten years from now, we will be able to say ....” bubba had some good years...not a single playoff win credited to his name ....but had some good 7-4 seasons”. The fan base shouldn’t be ok with “good” in year five.  Set bigger goals than a day by day motto.  Think big!  Be upset if you don’t win the conference.  Be upset if you don’t make the playoffs .  Be upset if your not seeded . Be upset if you don’t win a playoff game.  Be upset if you don’t reach the semis.  Instead...in year five ....I guess we have to be happy with being average.

Progression is needed. Been stale too long

Bubba is in year five....he and his staff have plateaued. A 6-5 or 7-4 record won’t cut it ....playoff victories is what’s needed at this point of his regime.   Time for big boy ball.  Changes are needed

On the coaching being fired part.....don’t let a “good” 7-4 record cloud reality .....Rudy needs to be gone!!! Period!  Anyone that pays attention to football should be able to recognize that.

On obvious passing downs, has anyone noticed if we ever leak the running backs out after the initial look to block? I can't recall ever seeing it happen.

Great question. Better question for Rudy.   There is a link to his email couple posts back. Funny thing is....every time I think of Rudy being asked any questions about the offense, outside of his two play playbook   ......I can’t help but think that he has the same look of a confused dog.

People are saying this is the weakest bubble ever. We have a shot.

    Very weak.

Ndsu has no competition this year but one could say there  might be three contenders and maybe 12 worthy playoff teams,  6 of which are from the caa

  8. As we all know, if und is to beat NAU they will be 7-4.  Obviously 6 wins is what it takes.   When the committee breaks down unds schedule they will see a fbs loss to a powerful fbs team...discard that from the loss column....7-3 .  Und filled its entire schedule with all D1 teams which will help as a few fcs teams on the bubble scheduled d2 teams

The 3 fcs losses (assuming und beats NAU)

    - Idaho st -   Still in contention for playoffs    Lost by 4.  Will the committee see this as a “quality” loss.  50/50

    - weber st -  should be a seeded team    Lost by 5   Committee will scratch this one up a “quality loss” as Weber should be seeded.

    - Idaho-   Damnit Idaho teams!!!   Lost by 4     This one will hurt.  If und doesn’t make the playoffs....this game is the reason. Horrible loss is every aspect.

The 7 wins (currently stands at 6)

-mvsu.   Horrible win.  Mvsu is the worst of the worst in the fcs and und struggled that game.  But it counts as a d1 win ...take it

    - Sam Houston-  reality is that its ok win.  Beating them at their place looks good but Sam is not playoff bound. Committee will put this down as a nice win however, as Sam carries a big name in the fcs

    - n colo.   und crushed them as they should have .   Not a “great” win by the committees eyes but a powerful win.

    - Montana.   Montana still in playoff contention.   Dominating win for und.  This will be the committees check mark for und

-sac st.   Same as n colo

-port st    A depressing win.   If the committee comes to nit picking ....they could use this against und for a less than stellar appearance vs a mediocre team this late in the season

    - NAU.  Und needs some style points to try and separate themselves from the other bubble contenders. A blowout in zona would be a start .  Would it be enough??? Who knows

The committee will see 3 fcs losses , one of which is playoff bound , the other borderline and one bad loss to a team that was fbs last year.

All three losses were by less than one score  ....that could help und as they were never blown out. They were “in” these games in the committees eyes

No D2 teams scheduled.   Favors und

    Idaho....no favors!!!

    - Maybe one decent win....no favors

    - and the big one ....no conference affiliation.   This will hurt the most as no one will speak up for und.  The committee will have to make an individual effort to read and review numerous credentials about und on their own instead of playing pocket pool and hearing it through  “promoters”.   Plus other conference  “promoters” that will be present will be doing their best to cast votes away from und for the team or teams they are representing.  Having someone at the table during discussion time is a must for a bubble team

Und needs both Montana to win and Weber ....must wins.

Not so much a need ....but a Indiana st win would be more preferable as they would have only 6 d1 wins

Rudy need to be gone before NAU game so that und is able to unleash the talent they have to highest    Style points!  Not keep it close.

  9. As much as I want und to make the playoffs ....the coaches are not playoff worthy.  No way Rudy should be still he a und employee. Rudy should be handed his walking papers today than und can promote a positional coach, freund, for the game against NAU and potentially playoffs.  Anything, ANYTHING ....would be better than Rudy.  I would have to believe that  a freund run offense would be able to generate more than (3) 1st downs in the second half vs a team like port st.     Let Kostich coast out the year and than hand him his papers.

I’ll be watching Davis in the playoffs. Very curious to see if they flop or not.

Great offense ...defense not so much.   If the matchups are favorable they could do alright

Notice how they did against JMU. They’re really good.

Weber is good ...that’s why they are #16 in the fcs.  Weber is the lone defense in the big sky.  Any other big sky team against jmu last year would of been a sh^* show.    Come playoff time big sky teams fail miserably with their “potent” offenses.

E wash is the one team that has succeeded with a offense only style in the playoffs from the big sky.

Part of that is the potent offenses of the Big Sky. Can’t overlook that. It’s tough to defend in that league.

Weber plays all those teams and does just fine.

  13. 124 teams in the fcs.  Offensively...Und has played the following Ds and their rank for total defense and ppg

    mvsu. #111.     43 ppg

    sam.  #85.       30 ppg

    idaho st # 95.      34 ppg

    N colo. #102.       36 ppg

    montana. #78.      29 ppg

    sac st   #103.      33 ppg

    weber.  #16.      22 ppg

    idaho    #95        34 ppg

    port st.  #80.       34 ppg

    * n zone.  #71.      34 ppg.

They have played absolute junk for opposing defenses excluding Weber and yet they struggle.

the mvfc has 6 of their 10 teams in the top 45 total defenses
