I have been watching all  of the games and I have a question does anyone know the reason The kid from Beaumont Texas isn't getting touches? He doesn't have many of them but his average is pretty good. I saw him from the sideline he was just a block away from going the distance in all games. He had  two screen passes that he popped for  plus yards then they take him out. he also had 4 kick returns for 84  yards almost taking one back but a kid missed a blocking assignment. To me we have a play maker will he ever be used in that role? He is the speed and he has great feet. But we don't get to see much his touches also aren't in garbage time its in the heat. Just asking or maybe I am the only one that sees it.

Cam needs touches. Most explosive player hands down. I mentioned him being an all American in fall ball and just recently questioned why he isn’t being used more. Coaching or just not worthy?    I will say coaches.  Also ....does a TE have a reception yet?.. Und must be one of the only football teams in America at any level that doesn’t use TEs. Not impressed with freund calling so far. Better than Rudy ..but being being better than Rudy doesn’t speak volumes. Defense is the reason why und wins games.

  2. Und is going to have a very amped team next weekend.  Believe they are 1-3 on the season.  They cannot afford another lose.  Eastern wash will want to throw a statement game and und is up.  Und better be sharp.

The next two games will show us fans where und belongs with the top 10”ish” teams in the fcs.

I don't fully buy into the Bubba being nice thing and letting off the gas.  I hardly doubt he said anything to Danny about letting off the gas on offense after we were up 27-14.  In fact Danny was still being aggressive which led to us throwing the pick that got them back in the game.  I do agree with the general notion of sometimes maybe Bubba being too nice and that the team sometimes doesn't seem to have the killer instinct.  However I don't feel we let off the gas on offense at all, I mean how could we....we couldn't run the ball to save our lives.

We can disagree.  Und came out with a purpose and a more sped up offense beginning in the 3rd and they scored twice with ease.  Nice adjustments!  What happened after that?  Did Sam make adjustments that und was unable to recognize or just back to conservative ?  But yes completely agree with the run game.  The light hogs thing isn’t working.  They need their 30-40#s back next year for  mvfc play where 70% of  every d line in the league are talented big dudes. I don’t consider drake and Sam top d lines in the fcs

    My thoughts:

Defense was solid for most of the game but yes struggling with the mobile QB continues (has UND ever tried a spy for the QB?)

The adjustments were nice by UND in the 2nd half on both sides of the ball.

Tommy played decent for first time out and got more comfortable in the 2nd half.  He is a gamer.

The INT was bad however, but I will give him credit by making an adjustment on the throw to Travis (although incomplete, he put to where his guy was going to catch it or no one was).

I've never seen a O-Line preform THAT badly.

The 4th and 1 play bothered me:  I understand why it was called,  but if you know that you have gotten ZERO in push all game long, why do you call that play?  They should have passed the ball instead (I know it didn't cost them the game but that was a dagger moment)

Huge 4th down stop, well done by Noah

Smart with Bubba to just take the safety but I'll echo what a lot of people had said, special teams were not great.

They won the game, but they just don't know how to dagger teams and that has been something that has bothered me with Bubba forever.

Still on track for the master plan

    A) Undefeated at home

    B) Beat the tomato cans

Get healthy in these two weeks, figure out what adjustments need to be made on offense and defense, and get ready for a tough opponent in EWU.  An opportunity presents itself here to perhaps get a big road win.

This is my biggest issue too.  It’s like his “niceness” comes out when they start to get some swag or momentum.....than the ultimate giant momentum killer comes with his ultra conservative way.   You could feel it when und was leading 27-14 in the 3rd...bubba had thought its time to go to the way he knows best.  Never a killer instinct mindset ....nice is the word  . Not sure there will ever be a game where it feels comfortable

He finally had had a great call with the safety however.

Folks, we are going nowhere with offensive line play like we saw tonight.  Hopefully tonight, was just a "bad night", and I know there are some young guys playing and some veterans hurt, but I'm not so sure it was wise to have all the hogs slim down.  I can't remember a game where we had so many negative rushing plays.

Special teams also continue to be a liability.  Short kickoffs, missed XP's, and that aweful non-fair catch in the 4th quarter, really put this team in tough spots against Sam Houston.

Get to work, get healthy, and get better!

Not sure what greibel was thinking.  Horrible decision.

  6. It’s a win.  Und has a lot to figure out but they beat a respectable team.  The zone blocking weight loss thing is not working.  Run game this season had been horrible.  JJ isn’t the answer. Looks injured or worn out. He folded over on the 4th and 1 try. 240lbs and falls over by a shoe lace tackle????  Should of been automatic 1st.  Passing game still doesn’t involve the TEs. Wanzek is awesome.  Use McKinney more. Bubba is the most conservative/ nice coach in America.   Absolutely love love love our secondary. Sam’s WRs are legit and for the most part were shut down. Donnell is closing in on all American status. D line is getting better by the week.  The aggressive nature of this D can lead to mismatches and exploitation’s for opposing offenses.  It’s either on of off.   Sam found a rhythm with the qb run and exploited the D in the 2 and parts of the 4th.  Thank god for the 3 int’s.  Can’t lose any more qbs.  Punt return team......??????? Take advantage of the bye and get healthy.   2-1.  Need to go at minimum 1-1 in the next two.

  7. Does anyone with “inside” knowledge know why McKinney plays sparingly?   The most explosive player und has yet he only gets a couple touches a game?  Injured?

    Same applies to griebel.

Und has to do a better job with lateral movement on D.  Ndsu picked them apart wide.  Sam’s guys are slippery ..... make the first contact and it’s a must to wrap up. Part of the lateral concern for me, and has been from day 1, is the OLBs. Jaxon is really good but outside of him I’m not impressed.  Smaller and/or slower is not a winning ingredient.  If that’s the case I would like to see Rastas get some field time at OlB. Perfect mentality for a defensive player...he gets it done!  He was a fresh all American at ILB couple years ago.

Recruiting is huge factor.   Here is a little story in that regard. When Bohl was still at NDSU we went down to play Northern Iowa. They kicked our ass.  As a matter of fact they embarrassed us with their physicality..  After that game Bohl said---we have to recruit a different player to be competitive at this level of play.

Its alot easier to coach if you have the players to be competitive. IOW its not about the Xs and Os its about the Jimmies and the Joes.

Exactly!  A good/ great  head coach has the ability to dissect and expose their weaknesses and recruit accordingly.  Bubba recruits “recruits” because that’s part of his job. Massive difference

How many hardcore fans actually believe that bubba will bring a winning formula to the mvfc.? Honest question.

But back to the game thread.

You are better than you were in 2015.

You tacked very well out in space. If you wouldnt have you would have gotten rolled.

The only time there was missed tackles was towards the end of the game which happens to most teams we play after being pounded on by bigger players.

The D sold out on playing the run all game. No half time adjustments.  Terrible decision. That did not put you in a position to be successful unless the coaches figured you didnt have the talent to play it any other way.  Either way It was baffling. IMO

Bubba will not take you to the promised land.

It only took an opposing fan one time to see the obvious.   Bubba doesn’t have it

  10. In regards to ndsu and quality/talent of players.....they have 9 players on the two deep that were walk ons. Say what you want but they seem to develop the players to another level.

In regards to coaching/winning...Bubba is not the guy.  His way of coaching to a certain extent was fine in the big sky but will not cut it in the mvfc.  He’s outmatched.

Reality set in yesterday.  Bubba brought an experienced team to Fargo against a new coached young and mostly inexperienced ndsu team.  We all know the outcome. Yesterday was his chance to take them down and gain positive attention. If it looked like they belong on the field is one thing but they were outmatched at every personal level.

Can I get a show of hands in who still believes in Bubba as the head of the FB program?

Unable to watch or listen to the game but I 100% agree bubba has had his time.  Lost faith in him nearly three years ago when he thought keeping Rudy was a great idea. This game cemented the fact that und/ bubba is not ready for big time.   6 years prove that.  Bubba is, I believe, 5-14 vs top 25 teams....with only 2 of those teams making the playoffs that year.  So in other words ....und can beat teams that don’t make the playoffs.  People will argue that in the last 8 years most teams that line up against ndsu lose.....which is true .....but unds lack of competitiveness in these games is glaring.  Physical teams are unds nemesis.  Should never be.  Und lived and died by that motto of being physical.  The Missouri valley is filled with this the ndsu type of team......punch you in the mouth ....win it in the trenches!  Und will play one more year of the “no D” big sky (Weber is the exception) than it’s off to a week after week after week of this style of game.  Bubba isn’t ready for it

In conclusion....the reality hit hard today that und isn’t ready.   I feel with the big sky schedule this team has enough talent to make a run for possible post season play.   After today’s debacle ...I see 3 for sure losses (ndsu, Weber, e wash) 3 others up in the air.

  12. -No lapses on special teams. Very crucial

-protect the gut on D ...make them pass.  100% faith in unds secondary .

    - if und ends up having to be pass happy .....even if it’s only for a yard gain ....completion is a must.  Keep the clock moving.

I’d be shocked if they didn’t. I’m thinking 37-20 NDSU

I hear yeah. If they had Tom Brady and the NE o line they would cover the 31 points.  They are only ndsu.  ....no way in hell they cover.   They might beat und but never by 31.
