what's the difference?
Potentially taking orders from and appeasing someone that doesn't take hockey seriously if Fenton leaves. They need to make it known they are all in on hockey as the conference's niche, a la PAC-xx schools investing in Olympic sports.

Exit fees can be fluid. ASU could sign up for a diminishing fee, amortized and everything. St Cloud can have a static zero, Denver's should be higher, etc.

Berry is hopefully on the phone with Alex Young right now, just entered the portal today.

I think the fact that Western would be all over there in the Eastern time zone by themselves without another conference school nearby would be an issue at some point. Miami gives them at least one bus trip. Take that away and who knows how long they last. Competitively they’re fine in the NCHC but I don’t know that there wouldn’t be other factors at play if they decided to make a move.
Plus the looming association with major conferences; MAC is just as likely as Summit to pair up or absorb.

What exactly does St. Thomas have to offer? You might have a hard time convincing seven athletic directors that we have to let them Miami walk and add ASU. I am not against letting Miami go but with an exit fee. Before the NCHC just adds ASU, the league needs to have a sit down with them and remind them, that they're not going to call the shots because they're a Power Five school. I also think the league needs to improve their overpriced streaming service. There's all kinds of things that the league needs to look at.
Twin Cities market, Summit member, fancy arena on the way. We want them on the schedule, be it in or out of conference.

To me, I feel like ASU wouldn’t stay in the NCHC long term anyway. That they’d just use us as a stepping stone.
Nobody is going to waive their exit fee when that happens. Maybe theirs will be higher.

About Miami, Wodon assumes (1) that the leadership in Miami is really serious about leaving the NCHC and (2) that the only or primary obstacle to their departure is the conference exit fee (which the NCHC may or may not choose to waive).
About Arizona State, Wodon assumes (1) that ASU desires to join the NCHC and (2) that the only or primary obstacle is the NCHC dragging its feet in issuing an invitation.
Which of Wodon’s assumptions are correct?
He's not one to say stuff to stir the pot, Miami wanting out makes sense.
ASU wants a conference, period. Powers said as much in a previous CHN article.

Let them leave, first step in reconfiguring the conferences by region.

Don't forget THE Oregon State Beavers....

Is that official that he's heading to SCSU?
It certainly wouldn't surprise me, I just haven't seen it posted anywhere.
Agreed though, best of luck to him and Costantini...just not when we play them.According to Mick Hatten, their beat writer

No surprise that Portz went back home. Good luck to him when he isn't playing us.

Until we get NIL set up, we are at a disadvantage compared to Big Ten, BC, and others. Hell, even friggin' Oma-fraud has a collective. It's not a fun pill to swallow, but it's the current landscape. Fire Chaves? Maybe a flooded inbox with questions about our stalled NIL status will get him off his arse?
In the meanwhile, plucking top players from lesser programs is not ideal, but let's be realists; if they've proven their ability to play at the NCAA level, their path shouldn't matter.
-
Rand was on Spittin Chiclets and mentioned he lost out on a recruit that was offered $25k x 4 years NIL elsewhere.

Hellesten to No Hardware, joining Luke Reid and Harrison Blaisdell

He's a heck of a hockey player, great hands, great speed, and can get an absolute piss missle of a shot off very quickly.
A prospect? maybe not right now but if puts a bit more size on and follows the path, who knows.
Easily one of the top kids in the NDAHA 05/06 group at the HP camp this past weekend.
Fun kid to watch play hockey.
He's got plenty of time to age out of juniors, hopefully a name worth remembering.

Didn’t make the SSM Prep team this year.
Put up good numbers in AAA and is still young. Gotta be a candidate for it next year. Could have a growth spurt still for all we know

What's the word on Ryder McDonald? GF kid at SSM.

If Albrecht is not receiving any scholly money he fills his roster spot nicely. Earns every shift, thankful for it and giving it his all. Isn't going to dazzle but has a good hit rate for being on the ice when we are buzzing.

Pehrson also has a Gopher alum dad (baseball). Don't have time to link them at the moment, but Michigan Daily has some articles praising his play.

Here is Matt Staudacher's EP page. I might be misreading it, but it looks like he'd have three years of eligibility left (since the COVID season doesn't count). He played at Shattuck St. Mary's and then for Muskegon in the USHL. Undrafted. Never been a scorer. Consistently positive +/-. Good size (6'1", 194 lbs).
He would have two years. If he was a RHD it would make him a lot more attractive, but a responsible stay at home D is what this next years team will need.

UMKC was mentioned as exploring hockey a while back, wonder if that is still a possibility.

We will probably see that move in the shootout this year

Sweet little move on the breakaway to score a goal against UMN this year.
I was under the impression they sold out every game this year?!?
