Former Junior goalie (maybe also player?) of the year Jake Sibell to St Thomas. I remember an article about him in USA hockey magazine and wondering why he was going to Niagra. Hopefully it works out for him.

Schloss named Logan Britt as their target for the 8th D spot.

EA Sports is figuring out NCAA football NIL, maybe they'll add NCAA to the NHL series. Can't imagine it would warrant a stand alone version like football and basketball.

Doesn't seem like as big of a loss as the rest. It's possible Strand didn't want him, too.

Klavs Veinbergs bails on Mankato. He needs another year of juniors before playing college hockey though.

sounds like either Wisco or maybe msu…but that just reading some Twitter comments
On CHNs last podcast of the year McMahon mentioned that every portal entrant he spoke with said they want to go to a Big Ten team. Not sure what sort of selection bias was applied, but NCHC seems to be dethroned in the eyes of current players.

Per Rink Live, Cade Littler removed Minnesota State from his Instagram bio.

If the season doesn’t go great next year and Strathmann is playing ushl, I’d be a bit concerned that he flips to UM or MSU (home state/B10). Based on what he’s doing in the USHL, he comes across as very ready for the next step. If his team wins it all and he’s logging these huge minutes. Id say bring him in to be safe.
But as others have mentioned, going back to juniors would not hurt him, he was a bit streaky at times. Could work on his D game more I suppose. His +\- has always been solid bit that metric can have its flaws when assessing players D. I mean…Sam Rinzel played juniors this year and was a 1st rounder. Situation was vastly different however.
Isn't he from suburban Chicago?

Bast, Wellens, Duluth. Meh.
Rather talk about an 8th D and a 16th F if that's the route Bubs et al plans.

Nobody makes me appreciate Schloss more than Wellens. Hatten and Myers are both good at their jobs, as was Shane Frederick. Wellens is not.

Did he say anything in January?
Not that I recall

When and where did he claim that?

First thought I had when he name dropped MSU and UND was, I can easily think of a handful of other teams who’ve been equally “aggressive” (aka, active) in the portal. Bentley, Northeastern, Miami, UMass Lowell, and probably many others. So why single out MSU and UND?
Howard is a pretty obvious answer. Wodon claims he was expecting Persson to transfer to UND since January, so maybe he heard about something around that time.

Addresses Michigan, but also names MSU and UND as other "aggressive" schools.

A former beer league teammate had a son who wanted to play in the BCHL after SSM but couldn't get one of the few roster spots allowed for Americans. Weatherby had to list his mom's address in the Puget Sound in order to qualify for his spot on Wenatchee, the one US-based team in the BCHL.

Keep in mind that St Thomas and now Augustana are the only private schools with hockey between the front range and South Bend. And CC/ND both have high admission standards. The ability to play close to home at a private school will appeal to lots of suburban skaters in the cities.

If Fenton signs a lengthy contract with penalties for leaving, by all means go forward with it. That means he's trying to make college hockey its niche. Just remember what happened when the Gophers thought they were bigger than the state of MN.

what's the difference?
Potentially taking orders from and appeasing someone that doesn't take hockey seriously if Fenton leaves. They need to make it known they are all in on hockey as the conference's niche, a la PAC-xx schools investing in Olympic sports.

Exit fees can be fluid. ASU could sign up for a diminishing fee, amortized and everything. St Cloud can have a static zero, Denver's should be higher, etc.

Berry is hopefully on the phone with Alex Young right now, just entered the portal today.

I think the fact that Western would be all over there in the Eastern time zone by themselves without another conference school nearby would be an issue at some point. Miami gives them at least one bus trip. Take that away and who knows how long they last. Competitively they’re fine in the NCHC but I don’t know that there wouldn’t be other factors at play if they decided to make a move.
Plus the looming association with major conferences; MAC is just as likely as Summit to pair up or absorb.
