UND92,96 Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 A win is a win I guess, but this is the same UMC team that lost by 46 to Augie, and who lost by 15 AT HOME against Valley City State. Quote

BringDeanBack Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 So far it's not looking like the rebuilding year that most were hoping for! If anyone deserves an extra year or two, it is this coach. He inherited a program that Coach Glas had completely run into the ground. If there is no improvement next year, then it is time to start worrying. Quote
4siouxnow Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 It isn't going to be any easier next year with a mostly D1 schedule. Quote
UND92,96 Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 It isn't going to be any easier next year with a mostly D1 schedule. Not to mention that a huge chunk of the scoring (Little and Youmans in particular) will be gone. Next year's team is going to be extremely young. Quote

I believe that new coaches should be given time to rebuild programs. I also understand that he didn't exactly take over a highly successful program and was brought in rather late to do any real recruitting for his first season. We saw alot of close games with some rather good teams last year. This off season he was able to bring in a few JuCo transfers and his system should be well in place by now. Alot of fans have been excited about the possibilites for the team this season. I don't see any reason why fans shouldn't expect to see some forms of improvement this year. Granted, it is still VERY early in the season, but so far I haven't been real impressed. I just hope that as the season goes on I will see more and more things to be excited about. Quote

Here's what I don't quite understand--Jones took over the program last year, and for the most part seemed to make some progress. He also added some talent this year in Joseph, Harrison and Benter. So why install a new offense? I don't understand it. Now it seems everybody is back at square one. I think that winning as much as possible this year is imperative, because let's face it--fan apathy is still a big problem, and it appears more talent will be lost after this year than will be added. I saw the team last year when they lost to Southwest Minnesota State at Marshall. It wasn't an impressive game. It sure isn't like the 70's when UND played dominating BB. I agree with you, we don't need a coaching change, but maybe the coaching staff needs to change philosophy. Quote
