Did Penner ever play here - for Maine ?

According to Brad's article, he played for Minot State - Bottineau after being cut from the MJHL 3 times.

I'll have to check out this article as well. This Davidson guy gets great praise from his former coach. It won't hurt to have a monster forward like that.

When I read the article you posted, I was thinking the same thing. That's a million dollar book idea! Very well written by that columnist as well.

And I think I get what you were asking now. Not if he played in ND before Maine, but whether Maine played here when he was in school. I believe he would have been playing the year UND won both games at Alfond (Stafford's PS OT GW goal :silly: ). Other than that I'm not sure.

What a Great Story - anyone remember him ? http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/sto...p-4617560c.html

Bottineau is nothing special for hockey; odd schedule, play some club teams, teams like Minot St., some HS teams, and often have a few players that have played small ND town junior gold league.

Unreal that a kid who played there ended up in the Frozen Four for Maine, then get his name on the SC in such a short time span. Bottineau was fired up to have the Cup make a trip there, wonder if Penner headed there after being in Manitoba with it?

It is not D1 hockey, but they have a successful program.

The Lumberjacks have won the NJCAA National Championships 5 times: 1986, 1991, 1998, 2003, and 2007.

True, they have been good at the level they play at, but I know junior gold players that have played there, and they are light years from D1 caliber, which makes Penner's success even more unreal.

I don't think he did as I am 45 minutes from Bottineau for the summer and never heard anything about it including being 15 minutes from Bottineau around that time. Which Bottineau also plays some Canadian teams as well.
