nodak hockey fanatic
after their loss (can't remember to who), after everyone else was off the ice, he skated full speed into the net and took it out??? apparently he has some mental issues. i think lucia pet kicked him off the team for the rest of the season, was let back on the beginning of this season, and kicked off again. obviously he has some off the ice issues, because he was one of their leading scorers. im sure someone here could give you a link, but the video of the final five incident is on you tube. EDIT - dont know how i didn't remember it was against us. also don't know his whole story (dont know if anyone does) but it would be interesting to know

siouxhockey5
Actually, if they are referring to the final five game, i think it was in the semi final game that year (not sure who they played) but he took a puck to center ice, took off for the net, fired a slap shot into it, then barrelled into the net. Then he skated to center ice and left his gloves or stick or something, but the incident did happen during the final five on year. I still think he should be fired for the disregard to players safety.

It happened after Minnesota's game against Colorado College, not UND.
buckysieve
No Lucia thought there was no problem and therefore played him again in the NCAA playoffs. I still think he should be fired for the disregard to players safety. Lucia benched Hirsch for both games of the NCAA regional. He then played in the Frozen Four which was three weeks after the "incident". If "Lucia thought there was no problem" like you said then why did he bench him for the regional? You have no clue what was really going on with Hirsch so to say Lucia should have been fired is laughable. I guarantee you that Lucia had many conversations with Hirsch, his parents, and his doctors before deciding to let him play in the Frozen Four. It takes a lot of nerve to say that Lucia should have been fired for the way he handled the situation when you truly have no idea what was going on behind the scenes. hockey1
No Lucia thought there was no problem and therefore played him again in the NCAA playoffs. I still think he should be fired for the disregard to players safety. Lucia was not the only person who cleared Tyler to play. He took advise fron many people including: Doctors, psychiatrists, legal staff and Tylers parents who ALL declared Tyler fit to play. To say Lucia disregarded Tylers safety and thus he should be fired is flat out wrong. You are entitled to your opinion but you need to know the facts. PCM
Why are we still taking about this? None of us knows enough to understand what was best for Tyler Hirsch. I think it's great that Lucia gave him another chance and I'm sorry that -- for whatever reason -- it didn't work out.

Well said PCM, regardless of whatever happened to him or why he did it, I feel bad for him that things did not work out for him. And in regards to recent occurances I think that we can all say that we need to reach out to those who need help and get them help if they need it and I hope that he is. happy
He did not play the whole season, but he was the leading points per game player in the WCHA (WCHA games) last season before he was kicked off the team. He had a 1.63 ppg average for WCHA games. Okposo and Hirsh were an incredible pair on the pp, and the team never really recovered from his disappearance. MN lost both Hirsh and Hagemo last year for medical reasons, both players had bright futures and were highly drafted. I thought he was recruited by UND back in the day, but I am not sure if he was. He was a good Friend and teammate of Parise at SSM.
