Goon Posted January 6, 2002 Posted January 6, 2002 Awesome win tonight. Great game by Siembida. Comments... Gophers laid an egg in the third and Sioux capitalized... Quote
Kuhninca Posted January 6, 2002 Posted January 6, 2002 All I can say is: Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,!Once again, an overconfident, cockey MN team lays an egg to ND. Even if the "Goof Ups" win tomorrow, they still will be judged to have blown it this weekend.Go Sioux! Quote
ScottM Posted January 6, 2002 Posted January 6, 2002 In the background, over a nice, quiet meadow comes the ever-piercing ... "Ha! Ha!" --Nelson MunceGood win for the team, I hope they keep grinding out the wins. Quote
Speez Posted January 6, 2002 Posted January 6, 2002 Great win for the Sioux & Josh. The confidence is back after a 3 game sweep of the top teams.A sweep at the Goofs will be tough. It would be great if the game was live instead of a delay. Probably have a womens v-ball game on. Tough to decide to listen on the net or wait for the broadcact. It'll be nice to see the Sioux back in the rankings on Monday. The 2nd half will be fun. Quote
Kuhninca Posted January 6, 2002 Posted January 6, 2002 Okay, my initial reaction was one of "Ha!" due to the overconfident rantings of UM fans on USCHO.com. However, thinking back on tonight's upset win, I'd have to say UND has made major strides in the last month.Even with Mazurak and Lundbohm playing sub-par games due to their recovery from injuries, this team managed to put together a 3rd period that was one of the highlights of the season.Of course, the highlights have been coming on strong lately. Go Sioux! Dare we dream of a sweep? I doubt it, but here's to the possibility!!! Quote
dagies Posted January 6, 2002 Posted January 6, 2002 Well, when you win the first game, a sweep is always a possibility. But, man, I think that is way too much to hope for. I think the goofs will be hopping mad that they let this one get away, and in my opinion, that's exactly what they did. Bright spots for the Sioux:Siembida in goal. Did a great job and I don't think he gave up a weak goal. And made many tough stops.Massen getting his second goal. That guy outskated Paul Marten, and really got air on the backhand to pot that puck. That goal was a beauty! Can you say 3RD PERIOD COMEBACK?YEAH, BABY!!!!But I think the Sioux looked pretty ugly tonite. Their offense was opportunistic and took advantage of our few opportunities. I thought the team had very little flow for most of the game tonite, and really struggled with handling the puck and making good decisions on the defensive zone. Very little 5 on 5 sustained pressure on the forecheck as well. So things really have to pick up before tomorrow's game.During the game on tv (I watched the tape when I got home) they said Blais was pissed at his "leaders" in the first period, saying they had let him down, or something like that, and he was going to have to wake them up. Lets hope they did. I was not impressed with Schneekloth handling the puck tonite.Power play question. The gopher PK is very aggressive. Always seem to have a man attacking the puck. The Sioux set up the box and give the other team room to pass around the perimeter. Very different styles. I personally like the more aggressive approach. Is this a weakness in our PK, or a philosophy difference in how to run a PK? Quote
Andy Enlund Posted January 6, 2002 Posted January 6, 2002 It was a awsome comeback and I saw some improved play as the game went on. The Sioux had a quicker step in the 2nd and 3rd period. Stop Communism vote Democrat!!!!!!! Quote
Goon Posted January 6, 2002 Author Posted January 6, 2002 Stop Communism vote Democrat!!!!!!!Andy, Andy, Communists are ussually leftist, pinkos, hence, probably read Karl Marks and are a good bet for being a socialist. (Edited by Goon at 9:06 am on Jan. 6, 2002) Quote
ScottM Posted January 6, 2002 Posted January 6, 2002 I was at the game, but after clearing out god-knows-how many Heinekens, many purchased by my Minnesota friends I have a few lucid thoughts, for once. I thought Siembida is the real deal. Seems to concentrate on the entire game and doesn't stand around too much and watch the action at the other end of the ice. Is pretty agressive around the net, not afraid to clear the back side or poke check. Lots of solid, raw talent that can only improve as he gets more game time. The younger guys continue to improve. I thought the overall team played pretty conservative, and somewhat sloppy, hockey, not too many disciplined chances taken. I'd write that up to frosh jitters in Mariucci. I hope the relax and play, as they seemed to moving into the third.Special teams really need to improve. PK was okay, but let Minnesota have too much time with the puck. Needs to be a bit more opportunistic and maybe open up a shorthanded goal or two, or at least move the puck to the other end of the ice. Could be a reflection of Blais' renewed emphasis on the basics though. PP was ... there. We need to find a definite "quarterback" for the PP, I think Boscheski or Massen might fit into the role over time. Good efforts that were rewarded. I expect the gophers to really pour it on tonight, but I hope the Sioux step it up too. Quote
