Siouxhockey03
Lee was the best player I saw at the tournament tonight. He can do everything, he's as solid as they come!!!! He's going to be a fixture his freshman year at UND!!!!!
Kermit
I've seen Lee play in person several times this season. He is an outstanding prospect. I would compare his style (if not his skills--yet) to former Sioux greats James Patrick and Travis Roche. He is a great skater and superb outlet passer. He positions himself well in his own zone, but he will need to improve his strength and physical play. He was outstanding last night, but actually made a couple of errors in his own zone (probably due in part to fatigue) that are uncharacteristic. I definitely like him more than his teammate, Jon Ammerman, who is also a very good prospect. Another Spud I really like is junior forward Matt Becker. He definitely stood out on the ice every shift and one could tell that he was a great player.

Lee did cough up the puck in the D zone a couple of times, it looked like nerves more than anything. I think he was getting frustrated, game should have been a blow out MHD outshot them 3-1. ER held the puck against the boards more than any team I've ever seen. Moorheads top line was shut down. Luckily Becker,Johnson,Loos line stepped up and played a great game. Becker is a very complete player, the only knock agianst him is his size. His dad played for the Sioux and I believe played in the NHL, Rangers? Lee is very lanky, he should fill out. He is far and away the best D-man I've seen in the state.
dagies
I thought Lee looked good last night too. Good skater, looked confident with the puck. I wouldn't put him in the Roche category as far as puck skills but he could handle the puck, get off quick accurate passes without much space, and had a great hard quick wrist shot from the point on the PP that tied the score in the 3rd. Lou Nanne couldn't stop gushing about him in the 3rd period at one point saying "we're going to be paying to watch him play for a lot of years to come". As a forward, Becker was very impressive to me too. And that little #12 was fun to watch too.
mikejm
Matt Becker is a hard nosed kid who plays tough all the time. Yes, his dad, Brad, played @ UND '73-'77, then spent time with Rangers and Caps systems. He was on a yo-yo with the Rangers between Madison Square Garden and their top farm club. He told me a story one time about the first time he came into Manhattan on the train. He got off and asked a porter how to get to Madison Square Garden. (No, the guy didn't say, "practice, practice, practice." That's Carnegie Hall.) The guy told Brad to take the escalator up two levels...the train station is (or was) right underneath the Garden. Matt's older brother Bryan is playing with Billings in NAHL. 27 points in 50 games, and is committed to Air Force. Their grandfather is Willard Ikola...Edina coach extraordinaire. siouxnami
mikejm, good information... IMO Lee sure looks alot more developed and refined than Oshie at this point. Will they be coming the same year?
ScottM
I believe Lee and Oshie are 2005 right now. I was very impressed with Lee. He plays quite well for a HS junior. Moves his feet, great hands and a very nice shot. If he does next year in the USHL, he could probably crack the Sioux lineup as a frosh. Oshie needs to develop his skating and footwork, as he has most of the other tools/talent already. He *might* need another year in the USHL after he graduates. Developing footwork takes practice, and not always in *hockey* skates.

With the Elite League and the schedule Moorhead plays, I'm not sure if the USHL would be that beneficial to Lee. I think it is great to see the MN Tourny look more like it did 7-10 years ago with the top players playing high school. I think the elite league is great for hockey, and is accomplishing its mission - keeping players from jumping to the USHL. Also the 17 min periods are a step in the right direction. I would still like to see about 10 more games, that would be comparable to college.
dagies
I think the USHL year would be a benefit to Lee but won't criticize any kid that would prefer to stay home and play with his friends during high school. Would love for him to be as ready as possible when he comes but he needs to do what will make him happiest. In the end, that'll make him the best hockey player.
