Bubba coming in is like when RT took over in 1986. Quick history in 1985 UND went 3-8 under Pat Behrns  losing 41-0 at Northern Arizona, 45-3 to South Dakota, 48-7 to Morningside...yes Morningside, and of course a loss to the Bison 49-0. Looks like what we did in 2013 under Muss. Enter Roger Thomas in 1986 final record 2-9 with wins over Morningside (I was there), and St. Cloud State. UND had offense but there was no defense losing 67-44 to Texas A&M-Kingsville (then Texas A&I), 52-21 to SDSU, 43-10 to Mankato St, and once again another blowout loss to NDSU 62-13. Now Roger's second year got better 6-4 beating teams like Augustana 49-3, 35-24 at Mankato, 22-17 at UNC, but getting smacked 42-10 in Fargo. There was improvement from the year before, and it kept growing 7-4 in 1988, thats a 5 game turnaround since 1986 including a SEVEN point loss vs NDSU, the closest loss since losing 14-3 in 1984. Dale Lennon took over the DC job in 1990 and UND went 7-3, 7-2 in 90, and 91, 1992 the 7th season in the RT era saw UND finish the regular season 6-3-1 and found a berth in the playoffs. The hole RT was left in from Pat Behrns was finally filled as UND was a contender and the next year 1993 UND not only beat the Bison (infamous Mike Mooney fumble recovery for a TD) but won a share of the NCC title something that wasn't done since 1979. From that point UND would win 7 NCC titles, and 1 NC (Dale was the coach, but players were recruited from Thomas).  So can history repeat itself, can Bubba be the next Roger?  He has already made the defense better, and UND already has 1 win shy of all of last year, plus he has tied RT's 2 wins in 1986.  It would be nice to have an offense, but you can only do so much with the players at hand. I think better times are ahead for Bubba's team.

Bubba is using the blueprint that won UND a national championship in 2001, so you'd have to think it would work, at least eventually.

Bubba will get this thing turned around faster thanks to great recruiting and the IPF taking everything to the next level. The boosters actually support him and his team believes in him, those things go a long way.

The defense needed to be fixed before the offense. If you hold your opponent to a TD or less you set yourself up for a chance to win, but getting blown out by 30-40 points every game at home, unless your offense is EWU (scoring 40-50 points a game) you are screwed.
