UND bolsters roster with pair of DI transfers University of North Dakota men’s basketball head coach Brian Jones announced the addition of two Division I transfers to his roster on Tuesday. Jones added 6-foot-10 center Chad Calcaterra, who will be eligible for the 2013-14 campaign, and 6-foot-1 point guard Estan Tyler, who will sit out the upcoming season due to NCAA transfer rules. “We are excited to add Chad and Estan to our UND family,” Jones said. “They both have Division I experience and fill immediate needs for our roster. Chad possesses the size and athleticism that we will need in the frontcourt to battle Big Sky opponents this season and Estan is a proven player at the Division I level. His playmaking and scoring ability will be a nice addition next season after (current point guards) Aaron (Anderson) and Jamal (Webb) graduate.” and via twitter... He is going from one DI team to another, it's not like he is switching divisions. It prevents a free agent like atmosphere. And the rule protects smaller schools. If somebody is a late bloomer and ends up being a steal for a low or mid-major, not having that rule would give the high-majors open season on those players. Not sure what you mean by the switching divisions thing. If a player transfers in any other sport within their division they have to sit out as well (barring certain waivers by the NCAA).
