ScottM Posted January 12, 2004 Share Posted January 12, 2004 You may have to adjust the XP security settings so that it prompts you to accept/reject a cookie, as you can customize it to number of levels. I use this setting to minimize the amount of spyware that might end up on my system, and then I still use Ad-Aware every couple of weeks. I had the same "cookie" problem when the Admin moved the site to its present server. When the red Security icon popped up, I had to double click on the 66.220.1.104 cookie and get XP to accept it. I doubt Zone Alarm would be blocking cookies, unless you have it set that way. Then again, I had nothing but problems with Zone Alarm when I moved to XP, and now use Kerio as a firewall. However, it shouldn't affect persistence of cookies. FYI-- they'll all break again when/if we rebind the SiouxSports.com domain name to the new or old IP address for the board. At this point I'm still tweaking settings during peak periods to determine if the new server can really handle the peak load. Anyway, if you have to login every time, there's a cookie storage problem on your end, because the forum cookies try to persists for 365 days. sprig Posted January 13, 2004 Share Posted January 13, 2004 If you click the advanced tab on privacy settings, you can override auto cookie handling and choose how you want to handle first and third party cookies. If you select prompt, you can choose which cookies to "allow" and which to "block". I don't see any reason not to block third party cookies, since that is primarily the ads, so I block all of those to avoid the "prompt" annoyance. For the first party cookies you want to "allow" to save login's, choose "allow" from the prompt when you are logging in (not before), and you'll save the correct cookie. Currently allowing the ss.com cookie will not auto log you into the forum, you have to allow the ip address cookie at login. Unless you've purchased or are using a trial verson of Zone Alarm Pro, you don't have cookie handling (the free version is a firewall only).
