DU with the textbook game plan to beat BU.  Executed very well.

    Gotta admit that's well played.

Luck , good coaching had nothing to do with it. Got lucky in all 3 of their games.

I mean, everyone can have an opinion, but saying Blake didn't show up in the playoffs is pretty easily refuted with real stats lol.

Yeah I didn’t do any actual fact finding research to come to that misinformed opinion. I missed his assists in the frozen faceoff game. I didn’t even consider the Miami series as part of the playoffs. My feelings from the playoffs weren’t backed by facts. I just wished this team would have stepped up and tied it up to those Michigan goals.

Don't confuse Sioux> with the facts Stoney. He's our version of LakesBison and DrunkHockeyGuy. He has an opinion on everything, usually negative and always unsupported by a factual or evidentiary basis.

Wow that’s kind of an honor to be held to such high accord as Lakes. I’ve finally made it to where people actually know who I am and actually read my posts!

Ludvig shoveling the puck into Pehrson's skate which deflected it into our own goal didn't help either.

Not putting that goal on Pehrson. Such a weird situation to be in. I’m not one to blame goaltending for either tournament loss this year. We should have responded instead of fading away.

    Ha!  I LOL'd at this.  :D
You think they're not liking his development into a NCHC player of the year and Hobey Hat-Trick finalist?  :) ;)

Yup same guy who was non existent in the playoffs. Wouldn’t know a hobey baker finalist was on the team if you had just tuned in for the playoffs. Will Blake be as memorable of a player for years to come like the other UND superstars? Not for me. Carolina obviously wants to sign him regardless otherwise he’s gone.

I did misread that initial post on why Carolina was in such a rush. He would be dumb to turn down a big offer. Blake had all the leverage in those negotiations.

Honest question, do you think the name change has hurt recruiting?

Absolutely not. Name change is just for show. Maybe a little distraction because of the fight to keep hawks off everything but that shouldn’t affect any of the players.

Take it from a guy who regularly talks through his arse, Sioux> is talking through his arse.

I was just responding to a post asking why Carolina was in such a rush to sign him. If they think he is ready to go then there must be a reason. Either he is ready or he is not. Carolina knows more than all of us.

Blake's turnaround from December to March was impressive. He went from being a constant defensive liability to becoming reliable almost all of the time. Sure he was easy to knock off the puck if someone got contact. But his 200 foot game improved big time this season.

Just because he didn’t turn the puck over in the worst places doesn’t mean he improved his 200’ game. Coasting back on those Michigan goals proves my point.

According to some that’s the standard.

    Spoken like a true winner…….

We need to decide whether we want to be an elite program or not. Our results are ok if you are fine with no tournament success. Top programs should expect more every year AND be disappointed if we don’t get there. Winning Mentality must not be in goons values……

Gone are the days of players making a pact to come back to finish the job.   Of course, most of the time that happened in situations like Minnesota's where they fell just shy of winning a title.  It's not like UND can say "we were so close".    Obviously, Blake was being pressed by Carolina, and I can understand their need to sign him so they don't lose him next year.   Just sad that Minnesota is holding on to players, where in the past guys would stay around here because they wanted to make another push for a championship.

So this obviously is going to give Berry even more grace, because we lost Blake and Berg, so we lost our top scoring threats.   You know, if you are going to lose guys anyway, might as well recruit like Michigan and BU.  Very disappointing.

Maybe Carolina didn’t like the way Blake was developing. Wanted to get him within the program to get him on track

I don’t get all that Panda Express hate, it’s really not that bad for fast food. Obviously I’ve had some better Chinese at a sit down but for something quick it’s pretty decent. If you lived in Minot you would appreciate a Panda Express over the other Chinese restaurants in the mall!

The question remains why UND in particular is affected by what could be be late-season mental fatigue, this year & others, compared to other teams. Watching Quinnipiac's first game this weekend they were flying all over the ice from start to finish; strong on the puck & never giving up on a play. Other teams are also going strong during the tournament & keeping the pedal to the metal. This contrasted with UND collectively shutting down for most of the third period against MI, like someone slipped sleeping pills in their Gatorade during the second intermission.

The baffling thing is, this lack of edge (if that's what it is) is affecting most of the team, not just a few players who may be burned out at the end of a long season. Going by recent years, maybe the team could start investing in a sports psychologist if they haven't already. UND has all the bells & whistles in REA to train & rest the body; maybe it would be wise to invest equally in the players' mental health to make sure they're locked & loaded between the ears come late March.

They already have one and a therapy dog!

    My opinions:

    1. For the past several years UND has been average. I believe this really started with the type of players recruited around the same time as the new Ralph. The UND style-game has been more pro-style with bigger bodied, less-dynamic players (generalization: there have been obvious exceptions) whose games translate very well to the heavy NHL style.
    2. Look at the offensive skill on Michigan vs UND. The guys they’ve had the past several years are unreal. It’s like U20 grad program. Dyneamic NHLers. Not grinders.
    3. Same for the Gophers, BC, and BU. How many 1st-2nd rounders play on those teams? Game-breakers… Jackson Blake is close, but he is not Lane Hutson, Celebrini, Gautier, Snuggerud, Willander, Moore, etc. Shoot, I think Bemidji’s young defenseman is better than our best.

    4. Why doesn’t UND have those players? I honestly can’t believe it. It should reload with 3-4 first rounders every year for all the reasons touched on in this thread: facilities, tradition, fan-base, finances. Used to have the game-breakers, always had a stud or 2 that were always threats to score. I haven’t seen that for a long time.

UND is just an average program now. Average coaching, average players, average expectations, average results, average facilities? Players want to play for the top big time programs

I wonder if they thought about challenging it.

They might have changed the rule to be that you can be in the crease before the puck as long as you don’t interfere with the goalie. Thought I remember that

Have you ever seen a team as snakebit as UND?

So, in this game Ludvig tries to clear the puck and puts it directly on our guy's skate and back into the goal. to tie the game. Third Michigan goal hits not one but two of our guys and flutters over to the Michigan guy all alone on the other side of the net. So we're now down 3-2 and have to chase the game.

I can think of so many times our hockey team has either hit multiple pipes or the other team scores off our guy.

For example: 2005 Frozen Four in Columbus against Denver for the Championship. Denver won the game 4-1 with an empty netter. First three Denver goals went off a North Dakota Player either a skate or a body. Two of which were power play goals. North Dakota out shoots Denver 21-1 in the third period and does not score a goal. One of which Fabian puts into their goalie (Maninno's glove that is inside the goal. But because the refs say they couldn't see the puck in his glove they disallowed it.

Or 2004 Regional in Colorado Springs when Parise was a sophomore. We lose to Denver 1-0 after out shooting Denver  38-9. Only goal Denver scores goes off one of our guys butt.

Just feels like we are snakebit when it comes to the national tournament.

    Argh!!!

All while our forwards were costing back into the zone instead of hustling to pick up the open guy. That didn’t happen in 2016, we never left a guy open because we didn’t give up!

We aren't the only team with a title drought:

    UM Go Blow: 26 years

    Goofs: 21 years

    Bucky: 18 years

    Michigan State: 17 years

    BU: 15 years

    BC: 12 years

    Ours is at 8 years.

I am frustrated like everyone else, but we are in the same boat as a lot of other programs.

Hockey isn’t the #1 sport at any of those schools, maybe BU?

Oh I totally get it....that's why I said I agree with what he said, how you finish the season is the only thing that really matters. But can you honestly even fathom the thought of UND football bring ranked #1 at any point during the season. I can't.

Not with bubba in charge of the defense!
