How is it Bluepeak is allowed to go through Grand Forks ripping up yards to lay fiber optic wires for people that that are not subscribing to them?

They have been tearing through WY too except out west many were happy to see a fiber internet provider come in and undercut Comcast’s. The construction was a pain but competition always wins

I really do appreciate the type of coverage that Miller and UND360 deliver. They don't blow smoke, and they tell it like it is. The roster is not close is what we've gathered from them. I would really like to clarify. Not close to what? Championship caliber? 2nd Round type of team? Playoff caliber? In comparison to last year?

I'm going to fill in the gaps a bit from what I'm hoping they mean, which is not close to championship caliber. Which I think is accurate, but I think they are really undervaluing a few things.

    • State of the FCS. IMO, this will be the weakest the elite of the FCS has ever been. NDSU most likely will win it all again this year, this won't be a Top 10 team they've had in the D1 era. Each level (Top 4, Top 8, Top 15) will be the weakest it's ever been.
    • UND's off-season (compared to other MVFC teams). I think they did the best retaining starters out of any team. Fine with portal additions. Compared to previous years UND teams, this was the best off-season they've had in the portal era.
    • Coaching. This is where I'm buying the most stock. From X's and O's to team mentality. It's going to be a night and day difference. Not only is Schmidt the real deal, but I think we'll also find out that Bubba was incredibly bad at it all.
    • Defense. No detail needs to be given, really. The last 3 years have been beyond embarrassing.

Do I think they'll compete for a National Championship? Probably not, but also, we're not looking at a handful of teams that are going to be head and shoulders above the rest like we have in the past.

It’s not hard in this FCS field to be a top 25 team. We should be top 25 every year regardless with the resources we have. Becoming a top 8 program should not be hard for UND in the coming years

there are schools on that list that finished worse than 5-7. they always say you have to earn it. Tell me how Youngstown State and Sacramento State "earned' it.

    Or southern Illinois

In no way, shape or form do we deserve to be on that list. Though I think we have the potential to be on that list. Our schedule won't do us any favors in terms of climbing that list quickly, but to be the best, you have to beat the best, and UND will certainly have ample opportunity to make headway in that area, but it won't be easy.

Hopefully Schmidt get them going and gets them going quick! I can say with confidence that if UND can keep some of those big games close, I have far more confidence in someone like Schmidt than I do Bubba. I just think he will bring more energy and preparation to the team than Bubba ever did.

    I guess we will see.

I mean outside of the MVFC and Big Sky who really deserves to be on the list? Southern Illinois deserves to be on this list?

Right, "confirmation bias."  As in, this article lists many closures and highlights an old stalwart (Blue Moose), but does not mention a single opening.  Don't need a fancy, high-priced consultant to confirm that.

Is this bad journalism, or bad consulting?

Hard to compete with the restaurants in grand forks. It would take quite the establishment to get me to eat there over the Speedway, Blue Moose, Parrots Cay, toasted frog, Rhombus. It’s a real dilemma for me to choose where to eat when I’m in town!

Please give me the name of a better college hockey beat writer.  I want to follow them on social media like schloss.  Go ahead i will wait ....

none because nobody follows college hockey outside of UND and a few other schools. Most schools barely have any fans as demonstrated this weekend in St Paul. Not hard to be the best in a niche sport coverage………

I am surprised by all the ripping on Schloss he is the best writer in all of college hockey.  I am surprised he doesn't go to the athletic and work as a national college reporter.  Ì think those on this forum also need to take a deep breath and let schloss process this just like everyone else has to.  Can't wait to see who the new coach is , and i personally hope whoever we hire becomes a key contact of Schloss's on day one

Be a nobody nationally in a niche sport or be “the guy” locally in the popular sport in the region? Brad does good writing but there isn’t a huge $$$ potential writing about hockey or really writing about anything.

some people will never leave GF because it’s too far from their comfort zone……. Just like GF hockey…..

That's his style and its why I stopped reading his stuff. It's the same with Goon's writing, they are both are good writers but refuse to acknowledge when things are not good.

Hard to trust their writing when it turns out that the fans and administration really did have enough and it’s only a surprise/ shock to the media…….????

Coming here first and then reading his follow up, it definitely isn't melting down as it was described in this thread. He makes his usual selectively truthful statements, but also puts the heat on Chaves, who needs to be scrutinized as much as Berry was until yesterday.

Chaves should be scrutinized for bad coaching performances, not for firing under performing coaches. Chaves should also be held liable for holding on to these coaches too long.

Berry dig his own grave, no many have been impressed with his tenure outside of the herald press room……

  11. Hak should be convinced to come back. He bleeds Sioux hockey so it’s not about the money. He needs to bring in some young new-age coaches that we can set up for the future coaching hires

NDSU doesnt play big time football...they are 2nd tier.  Imagine NDSU vs Michigan or Ohio State

Yeah but they have produced way too many 1st round NFL picks that it’s hard to say they are second tier. Their name, their brand, has become statewide and nationwide while UND has become irrelevant.

…and now we see a Schlossman article that says UND had the fewest power plays on record.  Yet UND is one of the most penalized teams in the league.  If that doesn’t tell you to change your philosophy and become more aggressive offensively, I don’t know what will.  Take a look in the mirror and see what got UND their last National Championship— UND had the highest scoring defensive corp, along with guys with great offensive talent.

UND played solid defensively, both forwards and defensemen . Opposing teams never got good chances because of that solid back checking. You don’t see that same effort this year

How much do you think apparel companies pay to use a trademark? Depends on the contract of course. For example, one can sell trademark rights to an apparel company or to a second party for a lump sum or a percentage of the profits/sales price etc. Certainly, there can be other options negotiated between the involved parties. Some of our legal experts would know better than I (nothing personal , but if we are upset about the money “we leave off the table” rather than “on the table”, we should have someone else negotiating).

Profit margins on sporting apparel is often higher than other apparel, up to 30% maybe a little more or sometimes significantly less. That goes to the retail store owner, not the owner of the trademark. I may be mistaken, but the money earned from this on a “limited time run” isn’t going to produce $400,000 or more. This isn’t the Nike Swoosh.

NoDak apparel tends to appeal to a limited regional market. It is only on a portion of UND apparel.  If we want to buyout contracts, then we should be the ones to write the checks.

My main point is we should be using ever effort to milk as much money as possible from the people who support UND. When people have money they want to spend you should make it and take their $$$$!

I get we want to move on from the Sioux but it’s really never going to go away so why not embrace it and make money from it.

There is still ZERO reason they are not selling black or green nodak jerseys. Especially when the normal jerseys are not selling. Even the Sioux shop is selling 2 for 1 jerseys this weekend. Can’t be making very much off of those but still not an incentive for many to buy them. Sell what the people want!
