  1. Now don't go mixing metaphors on me. You must live in Colorado or Washington State.
  2. UNC and UNI in their markets are no different than Black Hills State in South Dakota and Minot State in North Dakota. If the four Dakota universities want to measure themselves, set goals, and aspire to improving their programs using the aforementioned secondary schools from any State they are not going to get the job done properly. If you can't run with the big dogs stay on the porch. As I stated in an earlier post if UND had hired Chapman and NDSU had ended up with Kupchella, IMO the roles in this whole D-1 thing would have been reversed. I am not familiar with your Title IX funding comparisons and ratios. I would like to know more about how you arrived at your comments.
  3. Minnesota-Duluth, Minnesota State University-Mankato, University of Northern Colorado, University Nebraska-Omaha, St. Cloud State University, and the like will only be millstones around the neck of any D-1 institutions that have conference affiliations with them. They are the weeds. USD. NDSU, SDSU, UND is the grass. Now I realize that with many of those there is an exception when it comes to hockey, but I have always felt UND's hockey deserved to be of University of Minnesota and University of Wisconsin caliber not the former. Does that answer your what darell1976?
  4. There you go darell 1976, bringing weeds into a discussion about lawns.
  5. If the Summit or the Big Sky, with their current structure and membership, continues on as they are I personally don't feel either one is a final destination for the peer group that the four Dakota universities should be competing against. In many respects neither conference is much different than the old NCC, a mix of pretenders and contenders at the D-1 level.
  6. Those comments were so necessary, that I felt they had to be posted twice! I'm making a list and posting it twice!
  7. I will go so far to say that Bob Entzion and Roger Thomas, in more recent times, along with their respective campus presidents literally held back the hands of time and progress for the entire NCC. Their background, comfort level, and big picture vision stopped at the boundaries of Division 2. Joe Chapman, like all of us, was far from perfect but I am convinced that if he would have landed in Grand Forks instead of Fargo the roles of what happened would probably be reversed. He always saw where you should be instead of where you are. For many of us that is one hell of a divide!

  9. Back in the late 60's and early 70's UND had a strong President in Tom Clifford and a weak AD(no names will be mentioned) and NDSU had a weak president(again no names mentioned) and a strong AD in Ron Erhardt, who was also the Head FB Coach. If we would have had more visionary people like that the purgatory of D-2 would have ended long ago. Murray Warmath, Minnesota fb coach, once stated in 1969 that he was glad he didn't have NDSU on the gopher schedule. May the souls of Tom Clifford and Ron Erhardt RIP!
  10. Jim Hester 1966 UND football, Colehour to Hester was a great combination, back in the day!
  11. Great premise for continued discussion, there was a structural, cultural, and dysfunctional nature to some of our so called leadership in higher ed, back in the day. What's new you say! Another time, but thanks for opening the door. Maybe a whole new thread, but as for me gotta run!
  12. The urban legend is that Entzion who obtained his undergrad degree from Moorhead State, was actually a double agent for the golden goofers. He obtained one of his graduate degrees from UND and the other from USD. He was then planted as an employee at NDSU to undertake efforts to stymie the progress of the entire North Central Conference at that time. Minnesota feared rising strength in the west and he left his indelible mark without question. There was zero movement to Division 1 among NCC schools in the Dakotas while he was an AD at NDSU. Rumor has it that he is living in the Arrowhead of Minnesota.
  13. Tremendous success at Mayville State for baseball, no doubt about that! They probably have different weather patterns in Traill County! Maybe both UND and NDSU should drop their respective programs for one team and let the people in Mayville run the program going forward!
  14. Has the Curse of The Bambino been broken for NDSU? Will the loss to UND weigh heavy on their minds? Is the historical success of Mayville State in baseball really an indication that the legendary success of coaches like Al Meyer and Scott Berry truly states that the power of North Dakota baseball lies somewhere in between the two schools? What say you?
  15. This person is not really a human being. He donated his heart to Darth Vader Cheney! Either he received Cheney's old one or he is a cyborg. As farfetched as this may appear, just observe closely on his posts. It will not take much to reach a similar conclusion! To bad he doesn't have some of Al Simpson's common sense.
  16. Silver Dollar has the best burgers. Cassie's is a former brothel, maybe still is. Wyoming Rib and Chop House is tops! Wyoming is basically a closed society with the power in the hands of a relatively small number of families.
  17. A Montana U fan and a Minnesota Gopher fan were driving down a road together when they saw a sheep with it's head caught in the fence! The Montana U fan immediately jumps out of the vehicle and has his way with the sheep. When he finishes he yells back at the Minnesota Gopher fan "Do you want any part of this?" The Minnesota Gopher fan yells back "I would but I don't think my head will fit in the fence!"
  18. Wyoming is a great State, but it should be conserved as a hunting preserve, for All to enjoy!
  19. I sat right next to a former UND fb player that said after the game "that was more fun than beating the Bison"! And coming from him that tells you that blood is thicker than water!
  20. In 2007 the 20,000 was probably closer to 30,000 to 35,000 watching NDSU beating the goofers on the gridiron! That was similar to UND beating the goofers on the ice!
  21. Speaking of the "grassy knoll" from post 880 and 920, JFK visited our great State twice in the 1960's. Once as a Senator on Sept 22 1960 at the airport in Fargo for a Presidential campaign rally and a second time as a sitting President on Sept 25 1963 at UND. Just under two months before the tragedy in Dallas. I was a young person at that time, neither a republican or democrat, but when he died I too, felt that the lights went out at Camelot! With the vitriolic nature of many comments on this thread there is probably a Lunatic Fringe at NDSU that feels UND conspired with Oswald and a correspondingly Lunatic Fringe at UND that is convinced it was NDSU. There is no need for a rivalry. Save your comments for the Goofers, the Bunnies, or the Gwiz!
  22. We debated putting that in, but the review board didn't feel it was chronologically possible! 1. Neither Rocky's brother nor Bubba's son were alive during the Civil War. 2. There were no railroad tracks in Dakota Territory during the Civil War. 3. Ya, I know those damn details!
  23. Resources are such a precious commodity and such a foolish thing to waste!
  24. I would bet that if both schools swapped AD's for a month this game would still not get scheduled. This points to the fact that both of these guys are representing their respective school's interest and they're both just working for the MAN!
