  1. Now now Jeremiah "Liver eatin" Johnson "skin this griz (Montana U) and I'll get you another one" says Chris "Bear Claw" Lapp in the movie Jeremiah Johnson. After looking at your avatar and sensing the irony of who are rivals should be I just couldn't pass this up. Mountain man or old prospector, if you put 'em in a sack and pound 'em out they'll both come out of the same hole!
  2. Time for a summary review of UND and NDSU conference affiliations. Big Sky Conference(BSC), Summit League(SL), Missouri Valley Football Conference(MVFC), Western Athletic Conference(WAC), and Western Wrestling Conference(WWC) and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference(NCHC). Yes, even hockey has had to take a step back if not down. Let's face it everyone of these conferences is below where we should ultimately be as an institution. Is this where we want to be 25 or 50 years from now? Our conference affiliations look like a can of alphabet soup! The State of North Dakota deserves better than minor league, FCS, or mid-major status.
  3. Oatmeal is so good for a person that I would bet it will overcome that !@#$
  4. NDSU would probably give up all the used typewriter ribbon and whiteout. It's that big of a deal!
  5. In our neck of the woods, due to the weather, you can never have an overabundance of indoor practice facilities.
  6. What's logical long term? The BSC or MVFC for football! In the final analysis it is like asking someone who won the AAA baseball World Series. It's still the minor leagues!
  7. Both of the statements in post #1011 are kindergarten in nature. Free country and we all have free speech, but still kindergarten in nature!
  8. Neither UND or NDSU is in the best conference in regards to true stability and their institutional profile. That's not an opinion, that's a fact for anyone that's truly a big time thinker! I actually don't disagree with everything you are attempting to say, but affiliations with the BSC, SL, MVFC, WAC, and WWC are not examples of BIG TIME CONFERENCES. Setting your sights to low, selling yourself short, or on the part of some maybe just a tad of an inferiority complex has been a millstone around this State's neck for a long time. I personally feel that is changing, but it's been a slow process. It's like that feeble attempt by some State leader's that went down to the NCAA with "hat in hand" to preserve the Sioux logo. What a joke! The Great State of North Dakota has tremendous bargaining power whether it be energy, agriculture, fiscal strength, or technology to name a few. We need to start flexing our muscles as a State instead of acting as a red headed stepchild in regards to higher education and intercollegiate athletics. Like them or not our State had two university presidents that thought that way, one has passed on in Tom Clifford and the other was pressured out of town in Joe Chapman. It will be interesting to see if the two presidents UND and NDSU have now will be able to advance the cause of elevating our State to even greater heights. You have to lead from the front!
  9. A little overly sensitive there darell1976? UND fan or NDSU fan, whining birds of a feather flock together!
  10. NDSU was not necessarily one of the last seeds, chronologically, because they received an auto-bid by virtue of winning the Summit League. But I do agree with your premise of teams getting hot at the right time. Baseball teams with good pitching have the capability to truly dominate if a pitcher on a given day has "good stuff", outstanding defensive plays are made, and then all you need from the offense is one run to win. Don Larsen, from those dreaded 1956 Yankees, Sandy Koufax of the beloved 1963 Dodgers, or Curt Schilling of the previously Bambino Cursed Red Sox in 2004 proved that in the World Series. Outside of Mayville State when was the last time collegiate baseball at either UND or NDSU accomplished anything remotely close to national recognition in baseball. On top of the recognition that NDSU is receiving, UND can claim they beat them twice during the regular season. Sounds like a gift to the entire STATE.
  11. Personally I felt that message was important enough to post it twice!
  12. This tell GT this and tell BF this is starting to wear a little thin. If all this telling is so damn important why don't you schedule a personal meeting with them and explain your perspective. Neither Brian nor Gene are inherently bad and sinister people. They are no different than the rest of us. Although after reading some of these posts on various message boards, I am beginning to question whether some people deserve that benefit of the doubt.

  14. What's wrong with a little brotherly or sisterly support. Everything doesn't have to be a sibling rivalry or a civil war like you and the other LUNATIC FRINGE from NDSU are usually posting on this message board. As I have stated before, why not save that for Montana, Minnesota, or the LOWER half of Dakota Territory.
  15. Good point, and the same is true for the Big Dance, men and women. I am sure the same applies to women's softball as well. Conference affiliation has to mean something or the NCAA starts to fall apart at the seams. That may not be all bad, but the NCAA, like most levels of government, needs a general housecleaning from time to time. Both the federal government and the NCAA are both overdue in my opinion.
  16. It apparently wasn't obvious to me or I wouldn't have called you on it. Saying that NDSU fans only care about football and basketball is as foolish as saying UND fans only care about hockey. I personally don't believe that either statement is true. Stating an opinion doesn't necessarily make it a fact.
  17. Sorry to burst your bubble, but RPI applies to baseball as well. Go to www.baseballamerica.com if you don't believe me.
  18. I am pretty confident that any P5 conference baseball team that was worth a crap was awarded a spot in the tournament. There is a fair amount of inter-conference play in baseball. Hell UND should be proud that a team they beat twice won three straight games to qualify for a national tournament. Don't understand your logic on this one 'ol boy, but I guess only one asterisk on ten points ain't all bad. Roger Maris hit 61 home runs and he still got one.
  19. IMO, UNO without Football in the mix, the atmosphere of college athletics is just not the same. As for Creighton they are a private school and can do what they please.
  20. There may be no written rule as to who will be D-1 in all SPORTS in Minnesota, but from a practical point of view gopherville is not going to give up their spot as lead dog. Look at Nebraska, Wyoming, and Wisconsin as States where it's not going to happen either.
  21. It's unfortunate that both institutions have this Lunatic Fringe. I would be surprised if it makes up much more than 10% of the total fan base from both places. Montana, Minnesota, or the lower half of Dakota Territory now those are opportunities for true rivalries!
  22. 1. 64 teams qualify for the NCAA D-1 tournament. 2. Teams get in by a process very similar to how basketball is setup. 3. They have 16-4 team regions. 4. Each region is seeded 1 thru 4. 5. Each region plays a 4 team double elimination tournament. 6. The 16 winners of regional play advance to 8 Super Regionals with 2 teams each, Best 2 out of 3. 7. Those 8 winners advance to the College World Series (CWS) in Omaha NE. I believe it is double elimination with the final 2 teams playing a best of 2 out 3 series. 8. There is a national seeding process to determine where the 16 regions will be played. 9. The women's softball is set-up in a similar fashion. 10. If I am wrong on any of this please correct me as I am not from Montana and I don't know everything.
  23. Similar to what would be the case if Minot State or Dickinson State attempted to do what Northern Colorado has done. Fine schools but they are not peers of UND or NDSU in North Dakota or CU or CSU in Colorado.
  24. From what I consider to be an objective point of view, it would make much more sense for a relatively non-revenue sport like baseball for UND to be an affiliate member of the Summit League. It is my understanding that Oral Roberts will rejoin the Summit League next year and Nebraska-Omaha has one maybe several years of transition left. Who knows how things might have turned out if that had been the case this year. Stranger things have happened. I am sure Sioux83 would not have been nearly as sarcastic if that had been the situation. I, for one, am growing weary of this silly back and forth UND/NDSU bashing. As Tom Clifford used to say if it benefits the Great State of North Dakota it can't be all bad.
  25. 1. No true baseball fan is laughing. 2. UND should be commended for winning 4-3 in Fargo and 3-2 in Grand Forks. 3. Objective people would not view Brown's comments as outlandish. 4. The game against #1 seed Oregon State will be televised on ESPNU on Friday at 10 PM CDT. 5. UND chose the WAC because of Men's and Women's Swimming not just because of Baseball. 6. No school can make it to the CWS unless you make the field of 64. 7. NDSU faces a HUGE uphill battle, but the sports world is loaded with examples of the underdog winning.
