  1. What, you can't handle the truth?

I'll be on the sideline with the team.  I doubt you are even connected to the NDSU program.  So, not worried one bit about what you think is the truth.

  2. No, very few tickets will actually change hands in the secondary market, and those that do will mostly go to UND fans and fence-sitters who aren't really fans of either team. Bison fans aren't beyond taking advantage of delusional UND fans. But most that have tickets will keeps theirs. So, there will actually end up being very few UND fans at the game, and very few tickets sold at an inflated price.

Haven't we heard enough from this guy?  Forever?

  3. Thanks for the update.  Has Cox added some weight over the winter?

From his 250 lb. roster weight last year.......I'd think so.  The spring game roster might give a good update.

  4. The starting O-Line is very far from being settled.  As someone did elude to Francis did, or needs to have a little procedure on his knee.  The freshman from Manitoba might be given a shot given how he played in the All Star US vs. Canada game.  (The US team was pretty confident they loaded up the roster with more talent than Canada could handle, they were wrong).  With any of my comments, I try to add what I can without breaking the 'bro code' with the guys I talk to.  If you know someone on the O-Line, believe me the starting spots are unsettled, so keep up the hard work fellas.  Other than Cox, numerous other guys were mentioned as well for working their tails off, but Cox and 1 other guy(totally forgot who) were said to be having 'breakout' years, putting themselves in contention for the starting line-up.

  5. My kid is but I'd rather have you talk to the strength people. Not to be an ass but 1 of the 3 you listed is clearly the weakest on the team. It seems that some of the posters on this site have some inside knowledge. Is that true or is everybody just doing their best guess? I always have respected Geaux Siouxs input.

A breakout year for an individual, really stepping up his game, ready to play with the big boys.......from the horses mouth. Maybe the goal and excitement is about getting guys to compete at the level your son is already at? A little context.

  6. For every bad report or story their exists countless good ones- I will share some tidbits, not all inclusive.

We have a 258 lb. LB running in the 'fastest' training group, top 5. How teams plan on blocking Ratelle next year will be interesting.

Flowers has been looking good and could contend for some playing time at corner, he will be a Sophomore only.

Alex Reed and the safety Johnson are impressing coaches. Look for both to start. Both are running in the top group, along with Reyes.

Cox is crushing it in the weight room for the O line.

3 deep at nose with Woodsmall, Gopher kid who's name I can't spell, and Tank. Should be a good rotation.

I will butcher these names but Bakker and Disterhaupt are not only solid backup options at LB, but could be pushing for starting jobs.

Film study film study for the QBs, mum is the word on who's going to be the man come fall. Stay tuned.

Arrington said UND workouts and way harder than what they did at UAB.

Nate is going to update on twitter the results of testing this spring. He knows we enjoy the numbers and updates......

That was long, I've got the munchies.

  7. OK and when Harvard comes out with studies showing it can aid in recovery from concussions and other head injuries, we should just ignore that?  Personally, I'd much rather have had a doctor prescribe a bag of weed for pain after my surgeries than have given me a bottle of Oxycontin.

Medical vs. recreational use. I am sure the 6 year old mentioned above was rolling joints, smoking it up. I am not against medical uses.

The big problem with weed is that, since it's illegal, you need to go through a drug dealer who, most likely sells other drugs too.

    That sums it up.

  8. Actually pot is for a variety of reasons, not even close to being as bad as alcohol.  Also, this is 2015, for all we know he could have stopped in Colorado (or Washington or Oregon) and legally bought a bag.  It's going to be legal in 10 years in this country and, it would be nice, if we as a society stopped ruining young people's lives over it.

    Right-

Let's giggle our way into the playoffs. Sounds good.

  9. I actually think it would be wrong to kick him off the team for this.  A Class B misdemeanor is the same level as a DUI, minor in possession, or a noise violation in North Dakota.  Couple this with the Grand Forks Police Department's wanton disregard to the 4th Amendment when it comes to UND students and I think this warrants internal team discipline vs dismissal.

Pot is way worse than alcohol.  Pot is a cancer for a team, it's illegal, and you must know a drug dealer or associate with people that deal drugs to get it.  All you need for some booze is a crappy fake ID or know a 21 year old buyer......

I hope it's dealt with cause I don't want to be hearing a pot story associated with UND football every few months.

  10. Actually it was on the Herald site already on Saturday.   No one is hiding anything.   Article says he's still on the team. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-football/3689948-und-football-player-arrested-marijuana-possession

My point is the story is becoming a little less local.......more damaging to the program.

Serious question.  Does the Herald report stories like this on NDSU football players as the Forum did in this case?....does a  Herald/Forum relationship exist?

  11. George thing is baseless.

    Not his issue. Non-player issue.

    So....nothing to see here.

The news just posted on Inforum 2 hours ago.

I predict a football career just went up in smoke.

Way to make the most of your second chance Clive.

  12. I honestly believe this team has a chance at 7-8 wins if they catch a few breaks. Defense was really good last year and they didn't lose much. Defense should be the best in the conference. Honestly the offense can't be much worse and they won 5 games with that offense last year. If they can get to middle of the Big Sky offense we could be looking at playoffs. If we get that kind of production on O and the D remains the top D in the conference which is more than possible with what is back I look at it like this.

Should be wins - Drake, UC Davis, Portland St. Weber State, UNC

Swing games - Idaho St., Montana, Montana St., Cal Poly

    Probably Losses - Wyoming, NDSU

All they need to do is win 2 swing games or games i see as losses and they are at 7 wins.....3 of those and they are in the playoffs. I don't think this is that far fetched with that schedule if the offense is improved.

We will know more as the season goes......Montana hosts NDSU, then we play NDSU, then we have a road test at Montana later in the year.  Point being.......the Griz are probably tired of traveling to UND 3 straight years.  I'm sure they will be ready to give us a taste of their home field.  We need to beat one of the following: Wyoming, NDSU, Montana, or Montana St. to earn some respect.  I think those 4 games are the measuring stick games, and 3 of them are on the road.

  13. All jabs aside, we were a really young football team last year and with that is inconsistency. We had Montana on the ropes......and get slaughtered at Eastern Washington. I know injuries and style of play and match ups count, but we looked like two different teams in those games and they were weeks apart. So 2015...... we will be a little more mature, more established with last year's brand new coaching staff, we added 2 to 4 starters at semester break, and the 26 freshman or whatever the number is that played last year will be noticeably better.

  14. So what stats should be used in comparing, then?

I'd say your EWU score would be a good guide line as they were the only good BSC team last year.

Thanks for your injection into the conversation.

That's the general philosophy of the defense; bring 5 to 6 guys consistently leaving 5 in coverage with zero coverage or cover 1 over the top. It's not unusual for many successful FBS defenses, including Stanford, Alabama, and Florida, to name a few. UND's passing defense was suspect due to the personnel in the backend. Thankfully, that's been improved this offseason.

Stop trying to troll. I think what you meant to say is not many teams that could pass, because if they could run, it would still play into the strength of the defensive philosophy. Get what I'm saying, Bison "the troll" Dan?

UND improved defensively, just get over it. Also, for a league that's not very good, it still got in 3 teams into the FCS playoffs. That's not too bad if you ask me. There's a difference between good and bad, just so you know.

Correct on the philosophy.  I think we are in process of addressing size and athleticism in our secondary, which will improve the pass coverage.  I would like to see our DBs position up as to man press on a blitz, but maybe 25% of the time bail and play man on the upfield shoulder.  Then the automatic offense check to a fade route would be an easy break-up or interception.  So, I love the pressure and the blitzing........but I don't like being predictable in the coverage techniques.

  15. How UND actually matches up with Wyoming is yet to be seen. But these numbers are just apples and oranges. Wyoming compiled those stats playing a FBS schedule, which, of course, makes a direct comparison to UND's stats against FCS opponents meaningless.

So what stats should be used in comparing, then?

  16. I called this months ago and now it's out in the open.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2372717-insider-buzz-adrian-peterson-wants-to-join-cowboys-vikings-wont-trade-him

Jerry Jones, if you want the services of the best running back in the game today, you will have to cough up some serious draft picks and current players. This will be sweet revenge for the Hershel Walker Trade 26 years ago. I hope you enjoyed those Super Bowls in the 1990's Dallas, because Karma is here and she wants her money NOW!!!

This is going to get very interesting! :)

Yes, sweet revenge for the Hershel Walker trade!!!  Adrian lost a step with his knee injury, I could see it anyway.  Let's brag him up and 'ship' him out.  (Adrian thinks he is a slave to the NFL)

  17. Bubba only had so much to work with last season thats why our offense was so poor, now with more Bubba recruits and another year under Bubba's scheme I believe our offense will be better than last year.

The offense could not have been much worse -

QB play - all 3 have more experience with the play book and scheme, another year of college.  If Molberg is ready to go we'll have a healthy competition.  Overall I think QB play will be better this year.  Plus, see improvements below that will help our QBs out.

RB play - last year was a cluster F, until some decent production by Garmen.  I have heard the UAB kid is legit and is providing solid leadership.  Oliveira is physically ready and could be an impact upon picking up the scheme.  We have some slashers or end-arounders with Clives and maybe more so with Santiago.  This position could be a big improvement.

OL - Luke guaranteed they'd be consistently better from day 1 this year, and should be with a year under their belt.  I heard a freshman is crushing it in the weight room and I'm assuming that is Francis.

WR - With the injury to McGill, Dev 'keeping it real' half way through the season, and all the drops last year........how could it be worse??  We have more talent, but the competition is wide open.

TE - Ruhe is back and Alder will float from TE to FB

Overall, things will be better, how much better though......If last year was a 2 out of 10.  I'm expecting a 5 out of 10 this year from the offense, could be a 6.

  18. That's unfortunate. Ensures Olivera will have his redshirt taken off barring some unforeseen event. Here's my stab at the two deep.

    QB:

    Mollberg

    Bartels

(it could really be any of the three, QB's will be interesting to watch this offseason)

    RB:

    Arrington

    Olivera

    Sharp

    FB:

    Iverson

    Vesledahl

    WR:

    Siebel

    Georges

    WR:

    Walker

    Cerriteno

    TE:

    Adler

    Ruhe

    OL:

    LT: Camy

    LG: Anderson

    C: Francis

    RG: Meehan

    RT: Stockwell

    Boas

    Miller

    Hellman

    Bell

    Beck

(came down to Boas and Meehan for the last starting spot. I expect Boas to be the first lineman in if there are injuries to Francis or either guard)

    DE:

    Dranka

    Woodsmall

(Woodsmall should get some snaps at both DE and DT. Loss of Cheatom hurts the depth on the DL.)

    DT:

    Hinojosa

    Harris

    DE:

    Carrothers

    Greely

    OLB:

    Idowu

    Disterhaupt

    ILB:

    Ratelle

    O'Brien

    ILB:

    Rich

    Bakker/Norberg

    OLB:

    Labat

    Harmstrom/Butler

    CB:

    Brown

    James

    CB:

    Carter

    Harris

    FS:

    Reyes

    Johnson

    SS:

    Arnell

    Smith

(Safties are up in the air other than Reyes. Hard for me to imagine Smith beating out both transfers we brought in at safety but I can't picture Smith redshirting as he such a rare talent that the coaches need to find a way to get him involved.

    K: Taubenheim

    P: Bolduc

With confidence......and if healthy, Reyes and Johnson start at the safeties. Harris starts at one corner, the other corner is open. We have good options for nickel. Not sure where Awarri Smith will fall into the mix, that will be interesting.

  19. Yes I did thank you

Bummer, is Cheatom due to injury?

    *Updated mistakes in my post.

Cheatom was given a few chances. He doesn't fit with the direction we are going.

Or, like I would normally just say, he's a punk.

  20. So is Steiger a scholarship player or a PWO.   If a scholarship player what  kind of money does that leave for late additions.  I thought they were looking for defensive line or RB's for later additions.     Anybody know what's going on?

Bubba said on Tuesday they could add 3 more players, not certain if Steiger is one or not because he said they would only bring guys in that would make an immediate impact this fall.  So maybe 2 more guys, maybe 3, but a safe bet is between 0 and 3 additions before fall.

  21. I want to be optimistic but there is just so much damn uncertainty every where. I can't remember the last time there were so many question marks on one side of the ball. If only we had the old fortune 500 offense with dressler and this defense....

You'd have to look all the way back to the 2014 season for that...

    - 2 Sophomore QBs battling for the starting position, both of whom had struggles their freshman season.

    - 1 WR w/ any playing experience returning & he missed the '13 season w/ an injury.

    - An unproven O-Line that had injury problems in spring ball.  Started a juco transfer & former NG playing O-Line for the first time in college.

    - A RB position group that consisted of 4, yes 4 players to start & finish the season... Only 1 had any significant game experience at UND.  Projected starter was a juco transfer, who's career ended in game 2.  Relied on a LB turned RB for a few games & a 170lb RB who admirably finished the season.

    - Young TEs that weren't called on to catch the ball in the previous offense.

    - True freshman at long snapper, kicker & punter, as well as holder... Remember the Montana game???

Oh, and a new coaching staff...

So, taking a trip down old memory lane, I'd say, at this point, the '15 offense is looking a little more stable than the '14 group.

You totally nailed it. We are far better off right now heading into 2015 than last year at this time. Overall team talent is up-

Not to poopoo on the seniors last year but with their departures what position group could you argue 2014 was at a level we can't surpass this year? The closest argument could be corners with Tillman gone. But, I will tell you we have a serious competition brewing at corner, including some height and talent coming in this fall. And when you consider Reyes with another year under his belt, Johnson impressing at the other safety spot I think you'll see a solid secondary this fall. Advantage 2015.

We need a QB to step up big time if we're going to make any type of run this fall.

  22. I agree that Studsrud hasn't shown he is ready but it isn't fair to judge based on last fall. I think Gundy is correct in predicting Studsrud over Bartels but that is more cuz the coaches seem to prefer his athleticism. I would choose Bartels until Studsrud shows he is ready. He needs to complete more than 33% of his passes for cripes sake and he needs to earn the starting job. With Mollberg out this spring he will have the opportunity. I would hate to lose Bartels. I understand he has a girlfriend which may help us keep him. I would love to watch film of last year with you so you could show me how Bartels was a better QB than Mollberg, It is really a moot point until Joe is healthy. There is no reason to think he won't be ready for summer workouts. In the meantime we are fortunate to have a guy with Bartels experience who has had some success. I understand Bubba's wish to run the ball but we also need to throw. If Mollberg is healthy I will wager he will be all conference before he is done.

With 2 QBs dropping in one game......it would be nice to have them all competing in the fall.

Bartels has good leadership, a good arm, knows the Xs and Os the best, but really lacks mobility.

Joe has the intangibles and feels the game more than Bartels, and throws a sweet ball. But, he made some bad decisions.

Studsrud was thrown into a storm last year and all things considered, survived. He made one hellava play vrs. NAU. He is most athletic.

The answer to all this is...........is people are going to vary on their opinions. Should be a good spring game??

  23. Thought I heard the coaches were putting Norberg at FB?

First I have heard of it, but I really do like it. A big sign that Bubba is 100% in on the old power I run game

If the RB situation is stable, this has been talked about. If we have an injury or 2, Norberg could tally some carries. I would like to see him at FB, getting the surprise carry once or twice a game for 10 yards a pop.

  24. If Studsrud is our starting QB we are absolutely screwed, he looked awful last year and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Hopefully he improves a ton this spring. Running back also is quite scary as there is no one proven on our roster. I guess the offense as a whole is a big question mark, our defense better be ready to ball.

Studsrud was on the scout team the week before he started.......what did you expect as a true freshman?

Our 1-2-3 punch, Arrignton, Oleviera, Santiago will be better than what we had last year, guaranteed.

O-line will be better and to be frank, the WR production and drops couldn't be any worse than last year.

I am a little more optimistic than you I guess.
