  1. University of North Dakota head men's basketball coach Brian Jones announced on Tuesday that Texas prep forward Kraig Shields has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for his program beginning with the 2014-15 season. WWW.UNDSPORTS.COM
  2. He signed a NLI with UND ... You will only be signing an NLI and an athletic aid agreement if you will be receiving a scholarship from the university. If you are planning on walking-on or are known as a recruited walk-on you will not sign an NLI.
  3. any word on how the newcomers are looking so far?
  4. Averaged 19 pts 10 boards and 1.6 blocks as a senior.https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_IlUibz0UKU
  5. Drick Bernstine looks like a good get. Should add 2nd player to Hookers class. Also adds a needed player at the fwd. spot next year
  6. Coleman not a great recruit (modest juco stats and few offers) but looks weak at the 3 and Coleman only true small forward on roster.
  7. Verbal Commits forgot about Kraig Mack/Shields....therefore UND has one left assuming that Cole does still does not have one. 13 limit so somebody does not have one.
  8. Need to get a power forward as Kraig appears to be only one on roster next season. Juco prospect Bernstine is 6'8". Likely to go juco to get a ready to play PF. Kraig 6'9" is fairly athletic and mobile so like Geno he could be a very under rated recruit. 5th scholly likely to be front line prospect also.
  9. Berstine is son of former NFL player. Played a 13 games for Denver U last season and then left for juco. Listed at 6'8" .... Drick Bernstine 13 15.2 2.1 2.4 1.1 0.7 0.3 1.2 .282 .625 .000. Average 2ppg and 2 rebounds before transfer
  10. prep hoops iowa on Seales .Post AAU season awards. Most likely to receive high-major offer: Cortez Seales, G, Iowa Barnstormers (North Scott) Why: He’s got the athleticism and skill level for a Big Ten or Big East
  11. Geno picks up dribble by top of key and finishes with 2 hand slam.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oepd31-5J9s#t=4046. About 5 minutes later blasts to rim and Coach/Play by play guy calls him high major prospect.
  12. Jones does pretty well for coaching in the coldest city in the Big Sky Conf. not having much D1 in state talent, perhaps being the lowest paid head D1 mens coach in the country plus the assistants get bottom dollar. NDSU pays new coach 175-190K per year and he has never been a D1 HC. or top assistant at high major school. UND has a lot of D1 transfers on roster ....good high schools kids not lining up to come to Grand Forks.. UND is tough sell to players . UND not going to get a proven D1 coach for anywhere near 100k a season. Jones is has been either or pretty lucky to get players to compete.
  13. Iowa preps moved McDermott from 17 in July to 10th. Seales is 6th. One writer had this to say about Seales. Iowa Barnstormers & Cortez Seales Make A Run May 6, 2014 by Roundball Rundown Report Leave a comment The one name that I did not get to however, and my breakout performer of the entire event, is 6’4 lefty wing, Cortez Seales. Watching him on a Saturday night affair against Wisconsin Playground Warriors, Seales immediately stood out to me with the way he controlled the ball and his frame at the 2-spot on the floor. He seems to never force the issue, though most of his game and scoring comes from below the arc, and the Iowa guard is more than capable of facilitating and distributing for his unit. Upon walking away highly impressed with the Davenport native, I wanted to make sure that this kid was legit and put his 9:15AM game on my schedule for the following day in being placed up against the Mac Irvin Fire and highly touted wing, Davon Dillard. What the North Scott High star did the following morning was tremendous; with his team down 47-30 in the first half, the off guard put his team on his back in finishing with 22 points off of 9-12 shooting from the floor, corralled five rebounds, dished out five assists, and turned the ball over just once, and helped his squad come away with a big time W. The Barnstormers had problems with Fire’s Luwane Pipkins in controlling the ball in the backcourt and placed the rock into Seales’ hands in running the show. After Dillard couldn’t slow down the 6’4 guard, Fire placed the 5’8 Pipkins on him in hopefully taking the ball away from the Iowa guard. Unfortunately for the Chicago-based program, the ‘Stormers guard used his bigger body to back the little guard down until he got below the perimeter where he made the appropriate play, making for an even easier time for Seales in controlling the floor. Seales’ game is all about making the right move on the hardwood and his mid-range game is supremely polished, where he is more than capable of scoring over a contested hand. He can also make others better in the half court and rebounds the ball at a high rate on both sides of the glass. The one knock on his game would be in his 3-point shooting as I only saw Seales attempt one long-range jumper all weekend long, of which he hit to start his Sunday morning game. Regardless the kid has the goods to be a top-150 guy in the 2015 graduating class and deserves further praises. With lone offers from Northern Iowa and Drake, and limited interest coming from North Dakota, Green Bay, and Valparaiso, it would be a good idea of some Big 10 and Big 12 programs to jump on board with the Iowa guard. If Seales’ performances would have come a week earlier in front of the college coaches, the kid’s phone would be a lot busier and his offer and interest list be a bit longer.
  14. Seales looks like good get. Adam not rated pretty low for a D1 recruit by Iowa preps or prep hoops Iowa. UND may drop Josh Collins with 2 gets the same size. Horner hire paying off!
  15. UND is not in his final 4. Head coach should get a twitter account like almost every other college coach has... would not hurt recruiting to follow prospects on twitter.
  16. Good player, great on defense, High major slash and finish. Quite athletic, a bit quicker ,a little better bounce and better handle than Josh. Josh has better form and likely to have better 3pt shot in college. Sacar does not have the 3pt shot that he would need to set up his slash game at the high major level. His form is poor and that has coaches concerned about his potential to score from the perimeter. Sac wants to play high major so he might wait til spring in hopes a of big offer. Not sure Josh and Sac would not play same spot at next level. UND long shot for Sacar no word that they offered him. Josh did win a Slam Dunk contest this summer beating all top prospects in MN. including Sacar, Jarvis Johnson, and Marshawn wilson.
  17. Josh goes a lengthy 6'4" physically strong ,plays defensive end for football team. Pretty athletic and a very high level defensive player. Under the radar kid who may not pick up additional D1 offers and is someone UND will probably get.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CC8QtwIwAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DlngeSzt-kxM&ei=FfYWVOjRPMi3yATKloCQDQ&usg=AFQjCNE69E3b-xXE1ZHRikLjNa6YvHU_pQ&sig2=IpbcNrFHUmSG5W0FukKQcQ
  18. After watching the Mpls. inner city all star basketball games on you tube and comparing Hooker 2013 and Crandall 2014 It is clear that Geno plays at a higher level. Play by play guy who is a basketball AAU and High School said Geno is a High D1 talent and that UND got a steal. Looks like Geno will start this year ...
  19. UND may have offered a couple De players? Agent Zero @genocrandall · 11h @MuhneyySquash & @Sacar_Anim15 should just commit tomorrow too.... #UND is the way to go haha. ReplyReplied to 0 times RetweetRetweeted 2 times2 FavoriteFavorited 2 times2 More
  20. UND at MPLS. De La Salle this morning for open gym.
  21. Not much activity in MN this summer from UND staff compared to NDSU staff which is working the state hard.
  22. UND’s biggest bang for its buck might be Brian Jones. He is the Big Sky’s lowest-paid men’s basketball coach with a base salary of $86,384. He’s also the only men’s basketball coach in the league not making six figures. Jones’ team finished third in the Big Sky Conference in 2012-13 and qualified for the CollegeInsider.com Tournament for the third straight year. UND was knocked out of the Big Sky playoffs 76-74 by Weber State, a 30-win team this season that finished runner-up in the CIT. If asst. coaches at the bottom will be hard to keep the good ones.
  23. Jones as met or exceeded expectations per various pre season basketball publications. He is one of the lowest paid coaches around and the school would have to bring in a real greenhorn coach or pony up a big raise to replace him. NDSU is paying their new coach Richman 170k and he was a nobody .
  24. My bad In this case refers to athletic scholarship. Assuming that Cole gets an athletic scholarship this season it appears that UND no longer has one available for Nash.
