  1. Hakstol has been to the championship game multiple times, Jones hasn't won a CIT game. Hak's teams travel to Michigan and Boston and Wisconsin for an OOC road game and win, Jones has only 6 of those against lower quality teams. Hak can beat ranked teams, Jones can't. At least with Hak you can almost guarantee a spot in the NCAA tournament, with Jones you pray his team can make the CIT.

Yea man. Yea. Copy and paste. Copy and paste. How about a new rule in this God forsaken thread. If you have already said it 12 times you can't say it again. We get it. You wanna blow the thing up. You are good to go.

  2. Obviously you have no idea of the talent on this years squad and where they should be rather than where they are already at this point of the season. Maybe they'll improve as the year goes on, but they're not where they could and should be. especially after that NDSU loss.

    .

No, it's not obvious. None of this is obvious.

  3. You really think winning the BSC MBB auto bid is similar to winning the B1G Football Championship game?

It's all relative. No question. Just because it is a better league doesn't mean you can't apply the same logic. Firing a coach despite runner up finish in conference.

  4. But they were also smart enough to realize their mistake and did what had to be done. Some people on here did not want to do what had to be done with regard to Mussman and the FB program about one year ago; all they gave us was the standard "Muss isn't out there playing, so it's not his fault" line.

Trust me. If Tim brewster had lost in the big ten title game, they wouldn't have fired him the next year after a bad loss.

  5. Then what about the back to back debacles vs. Minnesota and NDSU? And what about the horrible road record? Those are things that cannot be just ignored and swept under the rug.

Understood. But the MN game needs to be held in context. It's a money game with a superior big ten team. That type of loss is to be expected especially in rebuilding year. Ndsu was rifled by Texas and Iowa by 35 each as well. The ndsu game was a bad loss. No question. Just as it was a bad loss for them vs us last year. It just happens some time. One game.

  6. No because I think reaching the BSC title game last year was a fluke for the MBB team, a fluke that I do not think will be repeated in the coming years under Jones.

So when he does win it's a fluke. Man, tough crowd. "Coach, we are gonna have to let you go. Even though you reached the BSC title game. We think it was a fluke. Therefore, it's time to go. Didn't really happen or ah, er, we didn't think you could do it but you did but that doesn't matter. It was just a fluke"

  7. I think UND reaching the BSC championship game is analogus to the FB team winning a share of the Great West title in 2011 with that comeback win over USD at home. In other words, not necessarily a sign of progress and better things to come.

Aren't you contradicting what you said 1 post earlier?

  8. Despite the extreme cold, Lack of money...team has to play a bunch of road games to afford trip to Italy next summer, cannot afford a video board that some high schools teams have, lack of In state talent , Hockey School, NDSU is a more attractive in state program higher RPI conference, bigger metropolitan area, And Basketball not an after thought to other sports. Do not be stupid enough to compare NDSU football to UND hockey NDSU football is a 2nd tier Sport at NCAA level UND Hockey plays at the TOP NCAA level. The fact that UND has been one of the TOP 3 big sky teams since joining is amazing!!! Since Joining the Big Sky 2 years ago UND has finished 2nd and 3rd. I guess there are 9 other coaches doing worse that need to be fired! Heck 80% of the College basketball coaches in the USA have done worse in their conference the last 2 years....Might as well fire 80% of all the coaches out there! The 20 % of the coaches who do not deserve to be fired yet UND can offer them a 1.5 Million a year to coach the team. Amazing

Great points. And here comes the "duckies and bunnies" onslaught. Wait for it, wait for it, wait for it. And go.

  9. And I suppose you think Mussman should still be in charge of football too? We bought out Mussman thanks to some generous alumni. I am thinking there would be more than a few basketball alums with deep pockets that might be willing to step up for their alma mater.

Please tell me what Jones has done over the last 9 years to justify keeping him around? Has this program shown any signs of progress? I say no. What say you?

    What for? You gonna listen?

  10. This thread is the cyber version of the knuckleheads in the barbershop in Hoosiers. So out of bounds. Low class crap full of faceless self -aggrandizing jackasses. Recruits, committed recruits, and parents of recruits, etc unfortunately read this. If you truly cared about the program you would take this off of here and move it back into the barbershop. Awful.

  11. I added this thread so it doesn't clog up game threads. So put in your two cents, your frustration on the HC whose team was picked towards the top of the BSC and is now 2-3 in conference play but more importantly....NO ROAD WINS!! If you can't win on the road you are not going to win the conference. We have seen this in the past where our team can't win on the road, this isn't the GWC we are in we are in the Big Sky, where competition is greater. I am going to say this....if UND doesn't make the dance....Fire Jones!

By the way. We went 12-7 the rest of the way when you started this thread. With a bunch of players no one else wanted I might add.

  12. For the record no matter how you like to spin my words around I am never happy UND loses..period!! Since I am not a big donor, or an alumn, I am just a fan I doubt Faison would give a rats ass what I have to say. I donate to UND athletics by buying merchandise and game tickets. I can excuse giving Jones a shot his first year in the Big Sky just like Muss hoping with better talent UND will excel but this being another average year or below average and getting beat in OOC games is getting old. You mentioned Saul Phillips, look what Saul did compared to Jones and you think Phillips should've been canned after one game with UND? How many wins against big named schools does Jones have? It's hard to name them with the whole six road OOC wins in his career. I would take Saul over Jones even if NDSU didn't go to the dance last season. I am glad others are seeing my point of view while you are hoping and praying for a miracle.

I would disagree. I think you would like nothing more than to see an epic failure with the consequence being firing of Jones. I think it would make your day. Irrespective of the fact that it would be an awful disruption in people's lives. Coaches, players, etc. As others have stated, your rants are knee jerk and careless. A complete disregard of the challenges this program has faced AND a disregard of the progress the program has seen the last few years. Couldn't be more obvious in my opinion. Hope you are feeling better.

  13. Celebrity Net Worth website has Phil Jackson at 45 million. Current estate tax law would put him at about 20 million in estate taxes. Given his age and coupled with his current salary, he most likely is looking at gifting. Should be anyway.

  14. Nice flurry here. As long as und has to play all of their non conference games on the road; they will never have a record that some of you want.

We have terrible facilities and pay our coaches crap. Recruits see and feel this.

Ndsu had a jump on us with the transition to D1. Might have only been a few years but may as well been 20. In this type of market, this is significant.

Und will only get a bid to the tourney if they win the BSC tournament and it will be a 16 seed. That goes for any team that wins the conference tournament. OOC doesn't matter in this regard.

Jones has had a more than successful transition to the BSC with players no one else wanted.

Brewster has done a nice job. Comparing the two is apples and oranges.

The mere fact that they can get anybody to play here is nothing short of a miracle much less be competitive.

Someone might say that none of these reasons are an excuse but herein lies the problem and that is some folks have these bizarre expectations that are nothing more than a pipe dream.Kansas? Duke? Give me a break. All credibility goes out the window.

  15. North Dakota in the Division I Era.............

    93-99:  Overall record

43-31:  Record in Great West & Big Sky conference games

8-3:      Record in conference tournament play

66-49:  Record in the months of January, February, and March

27-50:  Record in November and December

68-96:  Overall record vs. DI opponents

17-62:  Record in non-conference play vs DI opponents

17-39:  Non conference record vs "Like" DI opponents

    0-4:  In the CIT

*"Like" opponents defined as schools NOT from the Power 5 conferneces, Mountain West, Missouri Valley, West Coast, Big East

Good data. Would love to know what percentage of non conference games were away games.

  16. Agreed that we are not currently in a basketball hotbed - however, here's my frustration with Jones:  - The group that just graduated was probably the most talented team we have ever had.  Many started for 4 years.  However, during their careers, Jones showed absolutely no ability to either coach them on some of the most basic basketball skills such as boxing out or passing. They were more than content to go 1 on 3 and play playground basketball.   In addition, they turtled every time they went on the road.  He could not add any significant talent to the group.  Now they are gone and after all this time it seems like we are starting from scratch.  I have not seen through his tenure a solid foundation that we can build on.

Why is it assumed that this group was so talented? Drives me nuts. Just because they were all seniors doesn't make them talented. They were recruited when no one was going to come here. Nobody else was recruiting them. You can make the opposite argument that jones got the most out of a group of kids that no other D1 programs recruited. Fast forward to today and jones IS getting kids that have other D1 offers. Progress, real progress in my opinion.

Secondly, regarding money. It isn't just salaries that are an issue. 1) facilities are D2 quality. 2) money game requirements. Meanwhile, their neighbors get 10 million put into a locker room. Our players still use the same type of cold/hot tub that Phil Jackson used. I wouldn't be shocked if their weight room had one of those vibrating belt machines that Jack Lalanne used to hawk in the 60's. I guess you can flip it around when talking to a recruit by stating, "not only did Phil Jackson play here, you will be getting taped on the very same table he used". Embarrassing. Everyone's frustration should be pointed directly at AD and not Coach Jones.

  17. For all the Hooker detractors, last nights game is a prime example of his value. Does so much for this team that doesn't show up on stat sheet. I know he played in 2nd half of sdsu game but I am amazed at how people are so eager to replace him. Great defender; knows how to pace a game, getting better as a shooter. But most important is he is a great locker room guy. Easy kid to cheer for in my opinion. Really glad we have him.
