Tom and Schlossman, I have a subscription to GFH because of you.  Keep up the great work.  I assume if more subscribed, we would see more coverage for football/basketball.

I subscribe to their on-line version. They own several papers in MN too. One of the few non-biased papers left. They publish MPR articles. I also appreciate the GFH sports coverage.

  2. Cheap beer and letting students of legal age drink would do it. Announcer: That is a UND touchdown (QB sack, field goal,  tackle for a loss). Beer is now (discounted rate) until 25 bottles are sold or for 10 minutes or whatever. Why give away pizza when you could offer cheap beer?

Tickets go on sale today for SDSU game. Wondering if anyone is going and what section to get tickets? Don't really know where the visitor section is?

One seat, rows 10 to 15 at the 50 yard line keeps me happy. Have not been to a Jack Rabbit game in a while…

  4. No alcohol in the student section? WOW

I was sitting in the opposing team’s side at another college game. The students there were drinking. Seriously….. the man behind me said lady is this your blanket? Yes…well there is beer on it. I looked at him. Not me, the students back there. They were throwing beer (not drinking it).

Do we allow visiting students to drink where they sit? So, I think students of age should be able to drink, IMHO.

Initially it was $10,000,000 but it included the Sports Med contract. The $10,000,000 was left “dangling “ for quite some time. I have no idea anymore but if I were UND, both issues would be on page one.

Not so sure…..corporate healthcare is not what it is cracked up to be. Although the GF area is large enough to support all specialties and sub specialities. It is the gobble-gobble of smaller area hospitals and clinics that change the small community landscape…forever.

Since when Is SCSU out performing UND year after year? It’s not happening. Yes. They were better this season, but you might not have been paying attention lately.

UND-FB-FAN…you are aware that SCSU cut their football program like ?2 years ago. A few years after the State of MN paid for a new football stadium (took down the WPA 1930s stadium).

NIL is another nail in the coffin of college sports.

I totally agree but don’t we have to follow the crowd? The transfer portal and NIL has changed the landscape of college sports.

You are probably not going to do it anyways. Too complicated for a simple fellow like you. Might as well just keep complaining on this forum instead. You should be able to accomplish that!

Sounds like a very good idea. Turn these everyday rants into productive funding. Many times a bar, or business, gets a 501c3 and starts it. Get started UND-FB-Fan! Start a new threat NIL

    No, it's our job.

Amen….organizing weekly events (and sometimes a couple of events in different cities in one week) is a LOT LOT of work. I certainly respect the job they are found and thanks Sickota for the link. I don’t golf….sorry.

I have organized registered nurse workshops and trainings for decades. Now retired, I help with community events through a non-profit. Someone who openly criticizes these efforts has never walked the walk.  NEVER. And probably couldn’t do it if he had to. I have to quit reading this stuff.

The niche that is college hockey does not have a promising track record, particularly as the primarily funded sport. NCAA division one college basketball has significant viewership and revenue potential. Baseball, Lacrosse, and hockey all have their challenges (again, if considered as the #1).

The proposed solution, as I understand this an important prerequisite for you, is less money for hockey and more for football. This seems like the more realistic option since it’s quite obvious hockey will never be replaced by football at the University of North Dakota (although this would be my second proposal since you like two).

Well I may not be able to dispute much of what you say but I know for a FACT that some/most/many college football programs bring in 10 times more than any other sport including basketball.
Why? Simple math seating of stadiums vs. arenas. Fill 86,000+ seats and that is revenue.

But it is commitment and pride that fills my heart, most of the time, before I open my pocket book for my small contribution in the scope of major donors.

Man, these football threads can get depressing.

I mean seriously…a Monday morning…is your whole week going to be like this?

UND- FB-FAN, other than grossing me out about sharing women….are you seriously lacking something in your life? The negativity about UND actually hurts and insults me….like WOW. Have YOU ever considered applying for the head coach position?

  12. Just thinking through all of this and the big picture….is enrollment up, down, or steady at UND? Many colleges are seeing decreased enrollment and cutting programs (St. Cloud State made BIG cuts).  Just asking because I don’t know….

  13. I trust Ira… I think his heart pumps green blood.

He has the voice of experience helping any way he can…what do I know about baseball? Well we have the state tournament here. Someone has to clean the bathrooms and I can help. Let the people who know baseball do what they know how to do.

When we made our presidential scholar visit right after the flood everything about auND and GF impressed me. Nothing has changed my mind since then.

I posted the below message a couple of months ago.  Since then, I have heard from quite a few of you, some wondering if health problems might be prompting me to pull back on my ss.com, Wiki updates, Let's Help Bubba, etc. activity.   I appreciate the concern and am pleased to say that health is not the issue.  As stated, I am tired of the constant arguments and smart-ass posts on ss.com.  But a bigger reason is my concern about UND's athletic fundraising, especially the Champion's Club.  The upcoming facility improvements will help recruiting and player retention but, until we have the money to truly compete with our competition, we will not be able to consistently challenge for championships in non-hockey sports.

I am going to contact Armacast, Zink, Chaves, etc. with examples of my concerns.  Other ss.com members have indicated that they weren't contacted to continue CC membership and others have indicated that they had expressed interest in CC or other athletic fundraising efforts but did not hear back from UND.  If any of you can provide me (either on this thread or by PM) with specific examples, it would be appreciated.  Please don't exaggerate your example.  I will not use any names in my discussions with the UND brass.

I live far from ND and have one generic question about CC membership efforts.  There are obviously many businesses (inside and outside of GF) who are CC members, many at higher levels.  That is great but are we actively encouraging the owners and upper management of these businesses to be CC members?  I get the impression that many of these individuals feel that their companies' involvement means that they do not need to individually become CC members.  These folks are likely quite well-off and/or are well-paid.  I am not implying that these folks don't care about UND's athletics needs.  I just don't think they understand how much the need is and, if enlightened, many would become CC members, some at higher levels.

Heck, I guess another question is: do we know if anyone from UND is actively knocking on doors soliciting CC memberships.

The bottom line is that CC does not come close to providing enough $ to cover all UND's scholarship costs on an annual basis.  And UND seems satisfied/proud to raise about the same amount of $ every year even though tuition increases every year let alone helping with the ever-increasing costs of running a DI program.

One other item - I have been asked about future Let's Help Bubba campaigns.  My involvement in LHB efforts (and other personal contributions) will be dependent on the result of my discussions with UND management.

Also please ask what UND is doing with the Name Image Likeness funding…the 5 Ws

who, what, when, where, and why

I believe the current cases the AGs office is involved in will have some major shifts on how the entire landscape of charitable gaming in ND operates going forward.

I would be willing to bet you won't see alot of changes or moves made until after the dust settles.

Some big knockers are under the microscope right now.

Big knockers?  Like from Young Frankenstein? Or other knockers?

I would not change any beer label with this topic….just my opinion.

Say, do we sell Bud beer at the Alerus?

  16. Many organizations have a 502c3 that is charitable (ie serves a public purpose). Our golf club just started gambling and their 501c3 is to benefit youth golf. A public charity has to benefit the public, that is not individuals.

I do think gambling to benefit the “team” serves a public purpose. Serving the team Cold be equipment, training, physical space, technology, not sure how it works with NIL.
I hope someone works on this.

OLB is a huge concern. The lack of production from that group cost us last year. They can cover up a lot of issues with the secondary if they get after the qb.

I love watching good (and smart) LB. Key position but I am no judge of qualifications icatios….just love the QB sacks!
