  1. I can't give you specific names, but scholarships are being modified which I guess is an indirect way to have kids leave. I am not surprised. Bubba is going to shape the team based on hard work, accountability, and attitude. Some of those characteristics definitely weren't displayed by some of Mussman's boys. I'm sure names will start to surface soon.
  2. Rumors are flying about more roster changes. It's Bubba's way or the highway.
  3. I think they are just trying to find a spot for him because QB wasn't working out. He has to sit out a year anyway because of his transfer.
  4. This will get old geaux_sioux fired up but I still think this group was average when all things are taken into consideration. Hardin played fairly hard, blocking was mediocre but a pretty damned good receiver (stats speak for themselves). Jackson was/is a punk. He quit on the team during fall camp in 2012 and 2013. After he was given a token suspension at the beginning of last season, Schleusner couldn't kiss his ass enough and added all of the pistol plays to keep poor Jameer happy. The fact that he transferred speaks volumes about his "team" attitude and he knew his babysitter was gone too. I thought more of Golladay after his freshman season than last year. He seemed to pout a bit because the balls didn't come his way. I think he's a good kid and I guess we'll see what happens against the big boys. Personally, given the new offensive approach, I think McGill and Young will be solid.
  5. Half joking, half serious.......that group looked bad. And why couldn't I come to that conclusion after 10 practices? The run game had negative yards in the scrimmage. And you are right....not as stupid as you.
  6. After watching the practice today I am going to start the "Bring back Coach Lotysz" campaign! I realize the defense is usually ahead of the offense but wow, the offense was bad and it starts with the line. They didn't run block worth a crap and they were worse than that at pass blocking. I think one pass was completed and they may have netted 1 total rushing yard. If we can't move the ball against our defense (and they can't be that good), then it's going to be a long season! I have my own opinions about the o-line and that revolves around strength. I don't think Baukol does enough upper body work with lineman. Hopefully some eyes were opened today!
  7. Carr has looked okay....seems a little timid at times running routes and does have trouble getting off of aggressive press coverage. I'm sure he will continue to get better as he becomes more confident with his knowledge of the offense.
  8. The Minnesota State thing is a joke and personally, I would send all of those kids packing with their !@#$ attitudes. Way to much entitlement these days. I also agree with you about Jackson....he was a punk who had his ass kissed by Schleusner. Galladay on the other hand is a good kid and a real talent. I think he will do well. I have said this before and I'll say it again...Young is a very good receiver who should have been on the field. Having McGill back along with Young gives us two very good (but unproven) WR's. With an increased emphasis on a balanced attack and actual use of the TE's, I am more worried about maturation at the QB spot than anything else.
  9. The offense is under center with some shotgun. Palendech looks like he has a strong arm but not getting as many reps as Bartels or Molberg.
  10. So back to the original topic (always amazed how one comment can move the thread topic in an entirely different direction)! I have watched the last three practices and I can honestly say that the quarterbacks look better than last year but neither one stood out above the other. At receiver, Casey Young looked extremely impressive all three days. Maybe as someone else mentioned, he was just a victim of circumstance the last couple of years. I think he may be the biggest wideout. McGill also looked very good although he struggled with alignment a few times. I love the way Bubba runs his practices. They are clean and crisp and the coaches are showing a lot of patience while the kids learn the new system. Spring ball is giving a lot of kids multiple reps which should help come fall.
  11. I totally agree about the depth at receiver. From what I hear about the coaching staff, the receivers better be good blockers. The previous coaching staff coddled some of the receivers. I think those days are gone. If you don't block as a receiver, you won't be on the field. You've got four really small receivers with McGill, Ivery, Bridges, and Carr. That's why I like Young. He's a bigger more physical kid who fits into this offense well. I am also excited to actually see a tight end be involved in the offense. Schleusner may as well have just given the tight ends jerseys with a #60 or #70 because they just blocked.
  12. I am excited to see RJ McGill back and also what Casey Young can do.
  13. So it seems as though the staff is complete with the exception of a WR coach. Rumor is that Freund may get that spot which seems kind of a token hire. He doesn't have any WR experience at the coaching level. Too bad they don't seem to be giving the same thought to WR coach as they have to other positions. I also heard that the offense will be more conservative and stick to a pro style offense. Personally, I love the spread and what well coached teams can do from the spread. I just hope we don't become ultra conservative on the offensive side because it sounded like Bubba was anything but conservative on the defensive side of the ball.
  14. Great point! I sure hope he is able to bounce back and play. The TE group is very young. Stockwell is a giant and pretty darned athletic. Adler is another big, strong kid. Speaking do staff, it looks like WR coach is a position they haven't filled yet right?
  15. I couldn't agree more! My understanding is that Schluesner had a serious love affair with Jackson, Galladay, and Townsend. Harden has always had his share of drops but he does have the most big play potential. Jackson not only had drops, but some very untimely drops. Galladay, who was known as the guy who catches everything had a tough year as well. The problem was that Schluesner wouldn't make a change. The kid I heard about two years ago was Casey Young who really hasn't seen the field. I watched him in Spring Ball and assumed he would be starting. Obviously this year has some changes coming at WR. I agree with others that Carr has some potential but we'll see coming off his redshirt. It seems like they may need to bring in some juco WR's to compensate for the defections. We should be solid at TE and with a new coach we may even actually throw a pass to a TE next season!
  16. Let's hope not. He had no respect as a coach and played too many favorites. Team is better off with new blood.
  17. God I hope not! Schluesner is an idiot and has no place coaching anywhere. Given the performance of the QB's, why would you support Freund? I hope Bubba brings in his own staff and starts completely fresh.
  18. What a waste of time on the "search". Just bringing back another "good ol boy"! I can't believe this is the best they could do.
  19. Well, I know of 5 black kids who have left. Prove me wrong with 5 white kids pal?
  20. It is pretty obvious that the majority of the player defections have been black kids. I don't know why that is a "racist" comment. It is simply a fact! Now, I do believe the kids who have left feared that a new staff may have not allowed them to get away with certain behaviors or display poor attitudes. I know for a fact that Jackson has "quit on the team" during fall camp only to come back with minimal consequences. Mussman never took drug testing and discipline seriously. And no, I am not insinuating that all of the kids who are leaving would have failed drug tests. The bottom line is that these players committed to UND because of a coach, or coaches. That should never be the main reason a kid chooses a school. Granted, it can't help but be a factor because of the recruiting process, but kids should commit to the school. I don't know the real reason any of these boys transferred, but it doesn't matter. They are gone. My guess is kids like Casey Young, Ramon Bridges, Carr and others will step up and compete. The defensive backs were horrible so new blood will be welcome. There may have to be some JUCO help for the short term while the staff builds the roster back up. The defections should free up some money!
  21. This team would be better off if every DB left! Geaux-Sioux, I think Fletcher left the program a while ago. Here is my opinion on the at least part of the reason for the defections. Who has left so far? This is not a prejudicial statement but a fact. I know that Mussman, Schluesner, and others played by two sets of rules. Jackson has "quit" on the team during fall camp each of his first two years. Golladay will not be playing on Sundays......no work ethic. I truly believe the kids who have quit have done so because their guardian angels are gone and there may be some accountability with a new staff. Mike Edwards was not happy and probably not too many players sad to see him leave. This program needs a fresh start with a new attitude. It may be a tough few years, but the right coach can build the program. I too hope an announcement comes this week.
  22. My understanding is that the entire staff is dismissed. I disagree with keeping either one of the above mentioned coaches around. Luke was in over his head as a receiver coach, let alone OC. Kotelnicki is a nice guy and certainly did a better job as a special teams coach than he did as a defensive coordinator. I think it will be a fresh start all the way around.
  23. Just spoke with my nephew and he said the players had not heard anything as of this morning.
  24. geaux_sioux, on 17 November 2013 - 11:48 PM, said: I haven't heard much. Just from one person that thinks Mussman will get one more year. They have no authority on the matter and could easily be wrong. I hope they are. To prove what!?!?!?! That he REALLY CAN'T COACH, RECRUIT, AND BE AN EMOTIONAL LEADER? I think he's proven that and more. I hope Faison does interview the players and realizes they have no confidence in the "good ol boys club" that pretends to be a coaching staff.
