  1. In theory, it's still possible for 6 teams from the Valley to get to 7-4 or better, correct?

If ISU-R ends up at 6-5, then I don't see a scenario where UND finishes any worse than the 4th team in from the valley if they win one of their next two.   I would think that would get them into the playoffs, but no guarantee.

That said, I think we've got a decent shot at ending up at 8 and 3 with a lock on a playoff spot!  Beat USD next week and go from there.

I will admit while not being anti-Tommy I wasn’t fully on board til this year. His ability to keep plays alive with his feet and find receivers is top shelf.

When Tommy's done playing at und, it might be a long time before we find a quarterback with his combination of good decision-making, completion percentage, and elusiveness.

QB U Cam "The Arrow" Miller is 12 of 12 at the time, maybe 13 of 13, he was 100% anyway and he taunts the Jack's bench.  (fire the HC for culture, right).  Then the OC brings in the back-up who also completes a pass......but to the opposing team.  (fire the OC obviously)  NDSU's last drive Rolezy takes his sweet time and gains 11 yards and burns 1 minute 40 seconds putting the offense in a bind.  (fire OC again)  Later, the  Mecca of 9-man Football offensive lineman takes a personal foul penalty to kill another critical drive....next man up from Anamoose!! (Fire the O-line coach and HC both, and recruiting coordinator)  It's just hilarious!!

    +1 for mentioning Anamoose.

Really liked the play when Q lined up in the shotgun charged up under center for the snap like we've all seen in the past, everyone and their mothers thinking power run/sneak up the middle, nope, misdirection right, pitch to Smith left, nobody even in the vicinity!  Touchdown. Great call.

We've had a lot of highlight reel TDs this year for sure.

  5. I usually think jack Michaels does a pretty good job calling the games but it wasn't easy to get a feel for what was going on in this game.  Maybe it takes a game or two to transition from baseball to football?

I'm hoping the rest of the season is called a little better.

I don’t blame fans for questioning the talent evaluations of the offensive staff. This is the same staff that started the 2020 season with Dalton Gee getting carries over Skokna and Weah.

Are you the poster formally known as Midwestern Hawk?

UND is handling it the same way as to how they are listing players.  Schuster is listed as a Junior, but he has only burned 1 year of eligibility and he could be considered a Sophomore this year.   I was thinking about it before, should he stay his extra year and nobody ever beats him out for the starting job he would surely shatter the UND record for games started.  He would have started 4 full years, plus the games in the shortened spring season, which I think there were 9 including playoffs.   If he is still starting in 2024 that will surely keep our constant QB debate alive, but that is for another thread.

If shuster plays all five years, he'll shatter a lot of records. I think he's already number three in a few key stats.

The analysis of the throw is here: https://forum.siouxsports.com/topic/31816-und-travels-to-southern-illinois-oct-16-2pm/page/30/#comment-1203254

    " ... a 135 foot throw (45 yards), no wind-up, under pressure, into a bucket." <-- And on time.

Schuster's throwing motion is very smooth and relaxed. He doesn't look like he's rifling a ball, but it gets to where it needs to be on schedule.

My only critique would be he doesn't seem to like throwing deep down the middle. I suspect it's the "game manager" mindset (no picks).

We haven't had a receiver we should be throwing to deep over the middle for years.

I think Schuster is a hell of a lot more accurate.  Didn't Studsrud randomly miss on short passes somewhat often?

It wasn't at all uncommon for Studs to go 10 of 17 for 170 yards.  Some of that can be put on rudy, but not all of it.  Schuster has stretches where he completes 8 or 9 out of 10 passes.  You never saw that with studs.

If need to book hotel rooms for footballs do it now.  I had difficulty and prices are crazy.  I usually stay two night for long drive.  Not this year One night only.  Book a night in Fargo after Missouri State came.  My choice of hotels were sold out.  UNI was sold out as well but because my status they accepted my reservation.

You told them you knew GFHockey and they found a room for you?

  11. After the last two years It's pretty easy to say that UND can play with any team in the country, so I'm not too frustrated about the decision.  But still think it would have been a much better decision to wait and see how the fall goes.  The only thing that would change my mind is if the new contract allows bubba do something to retain his assistant coaches.

I'm much more frustrated with chaves extension.

Any chance we can get an update on where each player is standing at the women's basketball game today? I need to know which players I'm supposed to root for next season.

More than a few guys weren't wearing sleeveless shirts, they likely won't be strong enough to play at the FCS level next fall. Some of the guys who play offensive positions weren't clean shaven and will need to get moved to the defensive side of the ball if we expect them to amount to anything.  There was also an interesting choice in footwear by some of players... I'll provide a break down of what that means in a future post.

One thing I notice in this picture is Trey Feeney is right there in the front row. Doesn’t mean he’s going to be a good QB but shows me he has some leadership qualities. Another thing I notice is, I believe Tommy  is in the back row (I could be wrong so please correct me if so). Now I’m a Tommy guy and think he gets some undeserved hate but I think it says something.

    Good Lord.

  14. From my limited contacts with insiders in college football programs, it appears there are a lot of programs that encourage players to do whatever it takes to make strength and weight gains, whether they do it legally or otherwise.  NCAA testing is notoriously poor at identifying cheaters, to the point where you have to be stupid to get caught.  Those are nice comments about Kramer, but do we really believe there isn't something else NDSU is doing "better" than most other schools?  History almost always shows long runs of dominating performance to be tainted.

Kelly Howe reports that Hunter Hansen from NSU, LB, is a walk on joining the team as is Grant Romfo from Langon via NDSU. Romfo is likely a WR.

Romfro is the twin brother of the scout team QB that everyone thought did a great job!

“In general linguistics, a reflexive pronoun, sometimes simply called a reflexive, is an anaphoric pronoun that must be coreferential with another nominal within the same clause. In the English language specifically, a reflexive pronoun will end in -self or -selves, and refer to a previously named noun or pronoun.

    yea this helps me??

I hope posts like this don't scare GFHockey away.

Maybe Missouri Sate is not an apples to apples comparison, since Petrino has turned them around with so many transfers.

On the other hand, Montana State was an almost-there team in the Big Sky and Vigen has made the difference that put them on top of the BSC -in his first year. It feels like UND is where Montana State was: on the cusp, looking for the right fit to get them to the next level.

I think it's more accurate to say Choate elevated the program and left Vigen in a very good spot.  We won't know how good Vigen is for a couple years.

Feeney should be starter soon. One thing few understand is the job this staff did to maximize Schuster’s strengths and minimize his weaknesses.

If Feeney beats out Tommy, that means we'll have a rock solid 1-2 in that position.  If he doesn't, I'm more than happy to see Tommy playing the next 2-3 years.  Curious about what people think Feeney will do better than Tommy?  Take less sacks?  Higher completion percentage?  Make longer throws to our receivers who can't separate?  Make better reads?  Be more mobile?  I'm not sure I see Feeney being better in any of these areas, but I don't know he won't be better either.
