  1. A couple solid D-linemen, two safeties and one LB in Schobert and possibly Norberg. That is who we know of. There are 2-3 commitments we have not put a name to. We won't know how the class is going to look until everyone signs.

The most likely to fill spots in defense are going to be the 4 LB's, 3 D-linemen and a couple dbacks who redshirted last fall. There may be a couple freshmen that do not redshirt this year however.

    Schobert???

  2. I don't see how anyone can blame UND for not playing NDSU when the playing field wasn't level. that point has been brought up several times here and IMHO it is indisputable.

when the FU Boosters decide they want to play UND, the game will happen in short order. But right now they have nothing to gain and everything to loose by playing the game. It just doesn't make sense for them at this time. If the status of the UND and SU teams was switched I wouldn't want to play the game either.

this game doesn't make a lot of sense for UND right now either. with the conference we play in, making the playoffs will never be a given, no matter how well our program develops. a loss outside of the conference schedule could easily knock us out of the playoffs most years. I think this same argument applies to NDSU, the MVFC will never be a cake walk...

So, as much I liked the games between FU and UND, I would rather we gave ourselves a better shot at making the playoffs and then play the game there.

  3. As much as we need at least one good corner I'm worried about getting at least two really good lbs. We really need to find some playmaking olbs.

I gotta think that if we pick up Thurman, we look at seeing of one of the Illinois safeties can play OLB.

  4. Wow, I just gotta say what a recruiting weekend; weather didn't scare these guys away! I just watched the video of Riddle and wow, just wow! Other recruits looked great as well!

I liked Riddle's running ability, especially his ability to break tackles. Maybe he is interested in developing into a RB :)

  5. These two positions appear to have been locked up this weekend.

Maybe Thurman would make a good playmaking zeke as has been suggested? And maybe we got a verbal from a DB out of Cali? Also had at least one TE on campus which is a must get position this year.

Now we need to get a couple LBs and a WR and a RB to fill needs. After that its all about adding depth.

this looks like a great class so far. Hope we can still pick up a big RB, a TE, a couple of LBs (although I could see either of the safeties who just committed having a shot a playing LB, Kuska could put on some bulk when he stops growing...) and a good corner.

  6. UND is in the midst of what looks like a very good recruiting class at this point. NDSU isn't the best college football team in the country. On a high school recruits list, NDSU ranks about 120th, behind the FBS schools. We can and do compete with that, especially with kids who consider academics and a higher moral standard.

Really - we're going with this?

Fact - the Bison have a nice run going (as much as I hate to admit it) and we don't

Come on Muss - get it done!

Agree that the Bison have a nice run going. Congrats to them, and I am not going to rip their team because they are only the best in D1-AA. They are the best 2 years running in the same level UND plays in.

But I don't agree that we can't compete with them from a recruiting standpoint. We have, and will continue to. That was the point of my post. We have a good group of early verbal commits this year, and will approach the next season with a much more realistic idea of what the team needs to do to win than we did this year. There's plenty to be optimistic about.

    That is precious.

OK. Let me rephrase. We can and do compete with that, especially with kids who consider academics and avoiding a first hand experience with the criminal justice system.

  8. As far as what this thread pertains to, UND needs to play NDSU now more than ever. If they don't, NDSU will just continue to suck up all area recruiting in the future. Local kids (Minnesota and North Dakota) are becoming more and more convinced that NDSU football is better in all aspects relative to UND; only defeating NDSU head-to-head could potentially change that.

  9. SHSU is outplaying the bison, but getting screwed by the refs. Two holds that shouldn't have been called and negated big runs; two missed PIs that would have resulted in great scoring opportunities.

  10. We'll probably use the old bait and switch on him by taking him to the UND-Colorado College hockey games to show him the great fan and student support UND gives its athletes, thus, planting the seed in his mind that this is what he'll see at the Alerus, too. ???

Yeah, isn't that the sad truth.

wtf guys? What would your suggestion be for making sure the recruits had an enjoyable time during their visit?

  11. In our first year in an elite FCS conference we went 3-5 against the BSC (or 4-5 if you count the Portland non-conference win) Our 5 losses included 3 teams at 7-1 that combined for an overall record of 31-9. We didn't get the easy wins we probably could have over the 2 bottom teams if the schedule had been nicer. Not exactly great, but certainly not the end of the world. That's just the reality of it. We're aren't discussing our 5th or 10th year in the BSC without making the playoffs....it was Year 1!

Your signature includes the Cary Eades quote about National titles....... well, the UND football team has a more recent National title than the hockey team. also a reality. We can all expect or demand a win, but the reality is what is done on the field.

    Like stated above, patience.

let's not forget that without the blown call at the end of the UNC game, we likely end the season in 5th place in the big sky, behind 4 teams that were playoff caliber. The defense came up with stops at Sac St, Montana, SUU, and UNC, but needs to improve and will almost certainly be better next year. I think there is a lot to be hopeful about over the next few years; definitely NOT a bleak future for UND football.

  12. If we we want to get to the point where we can shoot for a BSC championship, we need to pick up 4-6 players each year that can flat out play. We didn't do this during the transition, but it looks like we might have achieved that last year with Goliday, Edwards, one of the quarterbacks, Labat, Rich, maybe another WR.

Do we look like we are on track to do that again this year?

  13. This whole season is an epic failure.

-The team finishes below .500 and of course no conference title or playoffs.

    -Two embarrassing major blowouts

-Still no FBS win despite several years of trying

    -Lose to the conference doormat

-A defense that is among the worst in FCS

    -Out coached at every level

It may be unrealistic to think things will get drastically better next year. Muss will almost certainly be back, and we start out with a totally inexperienced quarterback. I don't think this is doing wonders for recruiting either.

While several of your points are true, the season wasn't an epic failure. This team came close to saying their only losses were to ranked teams. They handled Sac State. They beat Montana when Montana was in a must win situation. They came very close to beating a good FBS team. They had good chances to beat to Cal Poly and NAU late in the game.

I don't have a lot of confidence in Mussman after today and have to really question whether he is the right guy for the job. I would like to see some leadership with more intensity. But to say the season was an epic failure is way off base and doesn't give credit where credit is due.

  14. I hope we can pull this one off today. With a win, I think it would be tough for anyone to say this program isn't headed in the right direction. There is definitely room for improvement, but also a lot of room for optimism and hope.
