  1. Bohl's move to Wyoming lowers my expectations for who the FCS can attract from an FBS school. I think it shows that an O or D Coordinator in the FBS would be making at best a lateral move to coach at an FCS school. If they did well, they could move on to a job like Wyoming HC. They might have better luck getting that type of position by just staying put and doing well in the FBS as a coordinator.

  2. Tib would be a 100% slam dunk but there is a 0.01% chance it happens. Caruso is a reach IMO. Faison gets Pflu and which ND school now can say it has a coach who won a FCS title? And let me put it this way...Griz FB is on par or slightly above UND hockey to their respective fan bases. Ever been to a home Griz game?? If not and you are a FB fan it's a must see. Pflu can handle the "expectations" here...he was the man at Montana!

How secure is Tibesar's job. What if the Bears don't make the playoffs? They just gave away a game to Vikings by choosing to kick a 47 yard field goal on 2nd down in OT. I am sure that coaching decision won't be forgotten if they miss the playoffs by a game.

  3. After reading the article about Pflugrad in the Missoula paper, it is obvious he still has a chip on his shoulder. This will be a very good thing for the next program he takes over. He is going to spend the rest of his life proving that what happened to him in Montana was wrong. he will do this by winning football games and running a clean program. It is extremely unlikely he would allow the administrators at Montana to feel justified In firing him by letting something like that happen at UND or some other school. I think whoever hires this guy is going to be very fortunate.

  4. Before I heard that Jackson might be leaving, I was considering asking the question "how long will Jackson last under the new coach?". I saw too many things that looked like eye rolling, pouting, and being disgusted when a ball wasn't thrown to him to be too worried about him leaving. If we get the type of coach everyone on this board wants, I don't know that Jackson would have lasted. Maybe he realizes this also.

I would rather that he stayed here, not so much because we need him, more so because he has the skills and physical attributes to be a big time player with pro possibilities and I would hate to see that talent wasted.

  5. I don't see a lot of players leaving. a lot of the good recruits from the past couple of years should see a lot of playing time that would be hard to come by if they went somewhere else.

Based on Carr tweets, he should be ecstatic about the coaching change and the opportunity that lies ahead. If he isn't, then maybe he is just a whiner who we would be better off without?

  6. You message board geniuses are so obviously missing the best coach und could get, that would be pflugard, the ex Montana coach, currently at weber state, knows the big sky, excellent coach. He was the scapegoat for the Montana president. Montana fans think he is better than their current coach.

He would come here with a lot of motivation to get back to the top.

  7. If you want to get a guy like bollinger from the FBS ranks, you have to take a chance and do it now. If you wait until he has the experience to to be definite good get, you won't be able to compete with the offers other FBs schools will be making. Of course hiring him now would be a risk; hie may never develop into the winning coach we are looking for.

  8. Kotelnicki and Schleusner are the two I wouldn't mind sticking around. Luke has been pretty good recruiting Illinois and Kotelnicki knows what he is doing with special teams.

Agree with this only if they are class acts and command the respect of their players. I have seem so e comments on here where people felt that wasn't necessarily the case.

Also, I would worry a bit about how much comradery there would be between those two and the coaches who replaced them.

  9. Honestly, Brooks does intrigue me and I wouldn't be upset under one condition. I would want him to bring in a d coordinator that plays a physical, aggressive style of defense. I would also prefer that said coach would have previous head coaching experience to help with the inevitable bumps in the road that Brooks would face as a first time head coach.

Well, there you go! Brooks and Bubba.

  10. I still would like Dale Lennon to come back and bring Bubba with him. Get UND back prior to the Muss era.

I am lukewarm to this at best. SIU fans would probably like to see it though

  11. I can't be a supporter of muss AND UND football at the same time. I think anyone who wants to see UND football reach its potential, and wants to see this program provide student athletes with an experience they will value for a lifetime can't be happy if muss gets another year at the helm. I personally think this program is becoming an embarrassment, and If Faison lets this continue, it won't be long before he will be applying at schools like Dickinson State for his next job opportunity

For those who think Muss should have another year, tell me something that makes me believe this program hasn't gotten worse every year since Lennon left.

  12. Exactly, I put that on the coaching staff. Then in the post-game presser Muss makes excuses saying "we're supposed to continue to play, but typically they blow those dead..."

"Typically"? What happened to playing 'til the whistle instead of assuming the ref will call it dead? Obviously, UND cannot advance the ball since it went past the LOS, but I counted at least 4 UND players that could've just walked over & touched the ball dead before the UNC player picks it up. They gave up. That's an unprepared special teams unit & that's on the coaches. (In the 10th game of the season)

Agree that one was on the coaches

  13. In the paper before the NAU game, Muss implied we were a young team. seniors a juniors eat first and there only about 20 of them...

I count twelve senior starters, 17 seniors all together. This doesn't add up. Just another case of Muss trying to lower everyone's expectations and make excuses?

  14. Yeah, his arm strength really made him struggle in setting a record Joe's huge arm couldn't match. I get you like Joe (or think he's better or whatever) but Ryan has performed well. His "lack of mobility" didn't affect things a whole lot last weekend. But of course that was because of the new offensive line and not because he got rid of the ball quicker than Joe can.

Bartels actually showed good mobility on several occasions last week

  15. HockeyBob claims the following:

Football is/has been as popular as hockey at UND because of a football victory over NDSU in 1993. Any hockey fans and beg to differ?

Fire muss to stay on topic.

I am with Hockey Bob on that, and I am not just saying that to put an end to this ridiculous, off-topic debate. Hockey was an easy ticket in the early 90s and stands were empty by the third period. Football was an awesome atmosphere. If football gets back to winning, there won't be much conversation about Hockey taking fans or resources away from football. With the exception of the Montanas, UND would draw as well or better than most of the Big Sky...but the winning has to come first.

  16. Also, comments like this by Bartels really bother me and I can't help but think that it's the player taking on the coach's mentality:

“We battled our heads off,” said Bartels. “Obviously, we want to win games. But we’re playing good teams. We’re (still) new in the Big Sky.”

Agree completely here. Another quote from muss before the game was something to the effect that bauman was going to get either 150 or three hundred yards, hopefully we would be able to hold him to 150.

Well, I think his season average is a little under 150 per game. So our goal was to get buy with holding to his season average and hope he doesn't double that up on us.

Time to start setting the bar a little higher.

  17. I saws several plays tonight that made me wonder if UNDs players were just trying to make sure we didn't cover the points spread. Wow!

But on the bright side,Bartles looked pretty good, especially considering he hasn't played in a while. His mobility was much better than he was showing in the beginning of the year, and more what I was hoping for when I watched his high school film a couple of years ago.

And, although it wasn't an official turnover, we finally stripped someone of the ball. Good job Zeb. If we aren't going to ever play rich or Labatt, maybe we move Zeb to LB?

  18. If Craig had a wife that looked like Hillary I am sure he would stroll down that path again, but look at her.

Light bulb just turned on. If we can hire a less than attractive coach with a good looking wife, we will nail it on the recruiting trail. This should really be the number one criteria if we hire a new coach.

  19. I would also like to see Bartles play some, but PSU wasn't the game to do this. We needed Molberg mobility. The last half of the sac state game would have been better place to try Bartles. If we are in a similar situation in any of our next few games I wouldn't at all mind seeing Hanson or Bartels play. If for o other reason than to see them get some experience for the day they will need to fill in due to injury.

  20. If I were Bartells I would tell Muss to cram it and transfer - then hope I came back to beat his ass -if he were still around

    y

Bartels would have probably been sacked ten times today. His best chance at getting playing time is to stay at UND and wait for an opportunity fill if after a Molberg injury which is probably going to happen if our O-line doesn't get better.

How can our O-line be so bad? Mussman played the o-line for Pete's sake. I agree that our RBs are undersized, but Miller had no problem running between the tackles against Fresno state a couple of years ago. This position has steadily gotten worse every year.

How can we not find a play that works whe we know they are rushing 7? A middle screen? Trips on the right with somebody isolated on the left? Screen to the running back in the backfield? Something.

Can we stop handing the ball off to Jackson in the backfield? I think everyone has that figured out.

On the bright side, defense played well today
