I guess I don't see how anyone can be the least bit surprised that a team ranked #23 in the pairwise lost to the team ranked #1 by 1 goal (and ENG).

I get your point but that's why you play the game.  LOWLY Canisius swept us so why can't we, with a program of our stature and high-end recruits/draft picks, win one game or even sweep St Cloud?!  Plus we're at home.  Plus it's on NHL size rink.  But no, we get embarrassed/outclassed the last two periods.  There's gotta be change.

    Let's break it down:

    -Scheel was fantastic.

-They are on a different planet than we are.  When both teams settled in it wasn't close.  Skill, speed, crisp passes, and their PP actually looks like they want to score.

-Knee on knee hit by Schuldt should get him a game tomorrow.  And to think it was a well officiated game to that point.

    -Our second periods suck.....

-I thought our team had to do pushups for missing the net?  Guess not.....

-Had an opportunity to maybe steal one, but I can't remember a great scoring opportunity for us the third period.

You said it, we were so over-matched skill and speed-wise. Embarrassing.  And yes, our 2nd periods suck every game.

How is it that we have a team like this. I just can’t believe it. There is no reason St. Cloud should field a better team than us. It’s just mind boggling.

You summed it up.  We all know the reason, the elephant in the room.  There better be a change after this season or this cold go on for several years.

Starman: "North Dakotas team speed is not that great."

Is UNDs lack of skill that obvious to everyone?

YES.  Following the 1st period tonight, watching the 2nd and 3rd periods, it became so obvious to this non-hockey great mind and never played hockey that St Cloud is light years ahead of us speed-wise and offensive-skill wise.  I'm not sure our 1st line is as good as their 3rd line.  It's painful, how the eff did it get to this in just 2 seasons?  Seriously.  This has gotta change, no excuse for this proud program who lands top recruits.

I often think about how much better my score would be if I just never carried a driver.

To be honest, I quit using it about 2 years ago due to my slice.  It just wasn't worth it.

I know exactly what happened to them.

It was following the 1996-97 championship season, which was also the spring of the great flood in Grand Forks.  As I recall, the Sioux boosters lost a bunch of their stuff in the flood.  The University also needed to order a new banner for the most recent championship.

The five banners ('59, '63, '80, '82 and '87) that had been hanging in the arena were donated to the booster club for them to auction off and raise money.

The 1980 banner was purchased by the owner of Tim Shea's nursery in Grand Forks, and I believe it used to hang in their facility, although I haven't been in there for years.

The 1963 and 1987 banners were purchased by an alumni who used to be a state district court judge in Minnesota.  He is a good friend of my father's.

My brother has the 1959 banner, and if you were at the CC game when the '59 team was honored, you may have seen the banner.  My brother couldn't be at the game, but he had a friend bring it, and a number of people took their pictures with it.

The 1982 banner hangs in my office.  :D

    Hmm, Mondray (sp?) perhaps?

Did the Yotes put the 3rd stringers in?

Yup, that's how we managed to make it "respectable" (losing by "just" 30 pts).  Otherwise, the result would have been a 50 - 60 point loss (I am not kidding).

16 first half points for the ladies tonight.  I was hoping for an offensive explosion more like the 20 points the Men had last night in the 1st half!

Seriously, in this day and age of the 3 point fg and defenders can't hand check players w/o being whistled for a foul, how can we only get 16 pts in a half with div 1 basketball players and be shooting 18% midway thru the 3rd qtr?  It just boggles my mind.  Are we recruiting that bad or are the players simply not improving after they arrive (prime example, senior Bailey Strand).

At least the men's games have been competitive.

Brew with back to back to back double digit blowouts losses.

Now back to back to back losses.  And tonight's 30 point loss (gulp) vs S Dak was not that close.  We were down by 42 and the deficit growing but we had like a 12  point run in 4th qtr vs their subs.  Shoot 24%, 1 of 15 on 3 pt fg attempts, and 23 turnovers.  This is getting embarrassing, not even semi-competitive.

I've had many a good round ruined on those last two holes....

Yup, hole 8 is as tough a par 3 that there is (was?) around this neck of the woods and hole 9 was arguably the toughest par 4 in the Forks area (for this duffer anyhow).

So, since 2001, the Rams (2X), Cardinals, 49ers, and Seahawks (2X) have all been to the Super Bowl.  Now I realize that the divisions have realigned since then, but contrast that with the current AFC (L)east...

I tip my hat to the Pats for their sustained success in this day and age, remarkable really, but it sure helps when you play in a piss-poor division and play those teams 6 times every season in grabbing home field advantage as they're nearly unbeatable at Gillette Stadium (realizing they played at Arrowhead yesterday).

Better team won...KC defense can't stop anybody.

Fine to say the KC defense can't stop anybody (admittedly they ain't da Bears) but at same time the Pats only gave up 6 less points than KC allowed so they didn't exactly stifle the Chief's offense.

Maybe you’re more optimistic than me...but I see an 0-8 stretch as a VERY real possibility coming up...

Certainly a possibility when one considers our 3-4-1 record (pulling out 2 ot wins & the other by 1 goal) vs PW powers Bemidji, Canisius, CC and Omaha.  Optimistic view over next 8 games I see us going 3 - 5 at best (assuming we have puck luck & no more running up against hot goalie damn near every night out:unsure:).  We do have a winning record though vs nationally ranked teams though so can only hope that trend continues (I'll sure take being proved wrong).
