Mercyhurst 6-3 final over Canisius College.  For those keeping score at home, that’s a dozen goals on the weekend for the Lakers.

Absolutely amazing/uncanny how all these "hot" goaliessuddenly go un-hot when the good guys are not playing them.  Unreal.

    Horseshoe for us.......looked late......

    What a disaster 2nd period.....again...

Cripes, what is it this season and us with the 2nd period?  Brad needs to work on his post-1st period/pre-2nd period pep talk.  Come to think of it, looking at our nearly .500 record (taking into account our big two ot winds vs CC this wknd!), he might also want to work on his post-2nd period/pre-3rd period pep talk as well.  Other than that...

In the air tonight by Phil Collins? Not sure about the time, but I do know they play it pregame.

"In the Air Tonight" though is only played pre-game on Fridays and I believe it's usually about 12 - 15 min prior to game start.

Fair, but whatever, man. Even if UNO beats DU tomorrow, I really don't care. UND keeps winning, I'm cool with it.

At the end of the day, feel free to stay salty, pal. But, I'm pretty happy with the big win tonight.

I hear you but think the point is though that last night shouldn't have been a "big win" (CC, at home, it took ot to win it, etc.) but considering where this team/program has been at these last few seasons (and last freaking wknd in particular) it is indeed a "big win". How fast things have changed.

I was at the game UND played very good game until the last 2 minutes of the game. They lost the game at the free throw line if they would have even hit 50% at the free throw line in last minute and half they would have won the game. I kind of think you can expect this with this team very young team with exception of Avants and Seales . Also can tell that Stewart is behind in play because not being able to play first semester. I get tired of criticism of Jones as coach of this team they have improved as the season gone along they play good defense with few exceptions and some that is because they young players and play good team basketball.  I expected games like this with this young team and growing pains but I think they are going to be pretty good team at the end of the season. Are they going to win whole thing for the conference I don't think so but they will be better team and will be stronger team next year if these players return and with few additions could be a very good team next year. After the game group of us were discussing the game only thing I could have faulted on coaching decisions were that maybe he should have pulled Moody for short period of time because they were shutting him down. But also he may have keep them honest defense to let Avants and Seales drive and work in the middle. The way these refs called the game it was difficult for UND to shut down there big man inside with not letting body up to him or let them push deny the pass on defense because once he got ball he created such mismatch where we needed more than one person on him allowing him dish it off for scoring. Also the way game was called in second half we had bonus with almost nine minutes to go in the half. This allowed them to shoot free throws to catch up down the stretch. I will very much like to see them again play some mistakes and nerves they had for this game will be eliminated and were going to see where they start beating some these better teams in league.

Not to argue but to say this is a "very young team with (the) exception of Avants and Seales" I'm not sure is totally accurate.  Not saying they're old/experienced but besides seniors Avants and Seales obviously being regulars they also have Stewart (albeit sat out 1st semester), Walter, and Brown in the mix also.  Aren't all three of them juniors?  In fact, had Geno not transferred I think we'd be calling them a real veteran team.  With him gone I'm not saying it's a veteran team this season but calling them a "young team" is a stretch also and gives them a longer leash to make excuses when that shouldn't necessarily be the case.  You may respectfully disagree but just my two cents.

Well, the team is 1 game over .500 now, so all is well, right?

How low can we go?  St Clown/Duluth/Den/W Mich/Mia fighting it out for 1 thru 5 in NCHC while UND/CC/Omaha are fighting it out to stay out of last place.  Yoy, yoy, yoy.

Not sure what’s missing, but overreacting isn’t the cure. I’m all about shots, give me SOG, work the game to get SOG ... and they have. But I remember the Manitoba game was much the same. While we did win by one goal, shots were 55 to 9, which seemed crazy.  Pretty sure Berry said early on as head coach, we’re going to get pucks to the net, which I applauded. We outshoot most every opponent.

And big SOG advantage has gotten us where.....

Yes indeed.   But to be fair, there were a couple really soft calls against his team too.

Let's hope she doesn't ask Berry if any of UND's junior class will ever score...

Berry would be friendly and say they have culture and work hard though.

If that was a complete game they are done for the year.  Shots on goal and puck control are not the stats used to win games.  If you can't score you don't win.  The better teams each night is the team that scores more goals.  Hate the expression better team lost.  If you don't capitalize on your opertunities it doesn't matter.  I wonder how long they work on shooting.  This team can't hit the corners.  Either miss the net or in middle of goalies chest

SOGs and time of possession don't mean poop if you get out-skilled offensively (i.e. other team scores more goals) and that's what's been happening way too often.

They keep saying that after every game.... Someone on this team needs to take accountability. Try something different. We keep making goalies on weaker teams, bemidji, Anchorage, and canisius, look like all stars.

Why can't we get those goalies?  My biggest pet peeve/gripe is the "we'll learn from this" (I believe Rhett Gardner was quoted saying that this wknd) but I've heard that exact same line now like 11 times in the past two seasons following bad losses/series'.  Learn from it after the first time, whether it happens at UND, in the minors/juniors, or even in high school.  God, that quote gets old.

I believe everyone should slow the roll on the firing Brad Berry. He is loved by the players and will continue to be one the best coaches. The natl championship team is mostly his class as an assistant coach doing most of the recruiting. The team will be fine. Two big weekends coming up here and I believe in this team! Although a frustrating weekend for them, there’s a ton of respect for those players who didn’t quit and continued to battle through the entire game, dominated Canisus. Slow the roll guys, they’ll get back to it this week and respond great. GO SIOUX!

I really do like your optimism but to say "the team will be fine" and "although a frustrating weekend" makes it sound like this past wknd was just a just a "bump in the road" (there's been way too many bumps in the last 50 - 60 games) but the downward trend now has been going on for a good season and a half and it still seems to be down-trending, not up-trending.

I'm not a big fire the coach guy as soon as something goes wrong but I think the last two years have seen a pretty steady downturn in the level of hockey UND is playing. This weekend tops it off for me as I think you have to make a change. If they wanna keep him through the end of the year and let him finish the season fine but somebody should be getting in touch with Hakstol right away and letting him know at the end of the year the job is yours if you want it. I'm so sick of hearing the same old crap from Brad Berry. Your team just was swept by a terrible irrelevant Canisius team and you talk about playing the right way and how people are gonna say mean things in the post game interview. It is a bottom line business Brad and yours doesn't look very good at all. I don't care whether you play the right way or not if you are getting swept by a program half the country doesn't even know exists. You have had plenty of time to make changes and instill some discipline back in this program but instead you are too worried about being buddies with the players and don't want to make difficult decisions. Good leaders have to make difficult decisions because it is the best thing for their program. Time to bring back somebody we know will do that.

I just don't see them firing Berry mid-season, as most top college sports programs don't, but gotta think it will happen at season's end unless this debacle gets turned around right quick now.

    It's what the man said.

Remember, in Hennessey's defense he is or is essentially a UND paid employee,  Remember men's hoop's play by play radio guy Paul Rolston getting suspended by UND back a few years ago when he referred to a late men's hoops collapse as a "choke job".  Yah, no doubt a conflict of interest when it comes to getting honest/opinionated reporting, but Tim surely knows where his next paycheck is coming from.

So does anyone acutely remember the down years in the early ‘90’s? Was it lack of scoring, penalties, bad D, poor goaltending? Any similarities to the past few seasons?

Just avg/mediocre talent, similar to what we see now.  It takes awhile to set in or grasp as you have players that are "names" (e.g. draft picks, etc) but once the "bad luck", "hot goalies", "no puck luck" stretches for 2 - 3 seasons (as it is nearing now) then it hits you on the head that your team simply ain't nothing but average or mediocre.
