I think only true hockey fans have any real knowledge as to how many countries had players, coaches, and staff on that plane. It was strange not seeing Pavol Demitra out there in the ice this past week in Sochi.
I think you said that the Slovakian team greatly misses Demitra.

It was very touching what Ivan Tkachenko did for kids, for 4 year donated 10 million rubles for children suffering from serious diseases. The documentary showed one of the girls he helped gave her 500,000 rubles the day he died.

For UND (and UMD fans for that matter) fans who live in the Rocky Mountain region, Friday's game will be televised on Altitude.
I was in Duluth a few weeks back for the series against CC. My observation was this: Duluth was the more talented team, however they had some serious defensive zone lapses on Saturday night. Lowly CC carried the play for large stretches of the 3rd period as Duluth got awfully sloppy in their own zone.
It's on DirecTV 652 for me in Montana, if you live in Colorado you should get the game.

We suck at Olympics.
This year as a whole the USA didn't do well. Alpine, Snowboarding, Freestyle Skiing, and Speed Skating are events the USA is usually in medal contention.
It will be interesting what happens in 2018 with the NHL. I think without NHL players the USA and Canada will be at a disadvantage compared to the European countries that will bring in players from the pro leagues like the KHL.
