The funny thing is you always see the picture of the lines for the BC/BU games “Battle of Common Ave” and the crowd there but outside those games nobody shows up to see them play unless it’s at the Garden. These people that say we need campus sites, need to show teams in the West who can fill their areas all the time not the BC/BU one time games.
If they want to have the games on campus then bid on it. Which is how they should have been doing it, but you can’t bid if you haven’t been in the NCAA Tournament in the last 5 years, don’t have the Locker rooms (4), and not 5k. (I’d have the REA a permanent host since it’s the crown jewel of college hockey)
BC never hosts any regionals, the regionals in the East should never have problems when most of the schools are 3 to 5 hour drives, and regionals in Hockey East are 2 to 3 hour drives.
Yost can’t host since they only have 2 lockers which I was surprised by. CC needs Broadmoor World Arena to go with the plan to make the ice sheet NHL size. Would they allow Minnesota host with a hybrid sheet? Hastings wants the Kohl Center to be NHL size (I’m sure that hasn’t happened yet, but could be wrong).
One thing that irritated me with Arizona State, make playoff tickets for the students FREE. ASU had free tickets for the students all year but NCHC Playoffs they were $10 (I know it’s only $10, but everything in Mullet Arena is over priced). Give students Free tickets and put them in a section on the glass in the NCAAs that’s way better then the upper level.
The NCAA and NHL should be advertising the NCAA Tournament once it’s January. During games, online ads, social media ads, and billboards/ads locally where the regionals are at. That will help get casual/new hockey fans to see the college game. Also to stop the secondary market prices. Put regional tickets on sale two weeks (right before conference title games) start. That will help fans get tickets to the right regional.
Just some thoughts on what should be done.
