  1. i agree dakotaboy, but there has been at least a somewhat organized attempt to attend the smack against UND at bisonville this week, what can i say, a lot of fans on both are going through withdrawl i've been trying to keep my relatively on topic, but have taken and received a couple of jabs on this string which i have taken in stride
  2. my goodness, someone shows interest in your teams and you get upset about it? i've been involved with most of this string, which i would describe as interesting, thought provoking and UND CENTERED!, i'd imagine most UND fans who've actually stuck to the issue of UND moving DI would agree, even if we've had differing opinions on what might be happening have the few guys who just started saying Bison fans go home even read any of this, or did you just recognize that we enjoy NDSU athletics and decide that we have no place here?
  3. why in god's name would i post about UND on a non-UND website i'm a bison fan who's interested in UND, posting on a UND board, on what i feel is a very relevant UND topic there are occasional references to other schools, but these have all been related to UND i don't see what the problem is also are you going to be calling collect?
  4. that could be the administration's feelings and intent, i really don't know as i fan, i like sdsu and feel a sense of loyalty to them if only one of us is offered a conference affiliation, i'm sure the other one will be left in the dust which is already in agreement with regards to football but i don't see just one of us joining the big sky, wyobison postulated and i agree is that if they add one it will be unc, two it will be the dakota schools, and three the three of us i was focusing more on the three dakota schools joining a conference and the impact of timing, economics, tradition, and loyalty playing into things
  5. i think you're nuts on your last post NDSU does not NEED UND that is ridiculous, if it were true NDSU would not have made the move to DI NDSU is not in dire straits because UND stayed D2, though the move to DI has been a challenge, NDSU is and will continue its commitment to quality athletics.
  6. that's a tough one, if NDSU/SDSU become travel partners, which they aren't now as independents, but will be in some sports if/when we get in a conference, there will be a definite relationship if UND moves up later and this relationship between NDSU/SDSU exists, i think it might be difficult to end unless a fourth school appears, which is doubtful if UND applied for admission to the Big Sky or another conference and enters the same time as NDSU/SDSU, i'm not really sure what would happen three teams in the Big Sky wouldn't matter too much as they already have a mess with the geographic dispersal of their teams
  7. i edited my post but i was referring to your confusion over the words want and need no one can believe its necessary for UND to do anything to ensure the success of NDSU or vice versa, it may be beneficial or make the other institution more successful, but to for either party to say its necessary is pretty egomaniacal
  8. we don't NEED UND, but it would have been nice (present tense) i WANTED UND to move up with us, you didn't (past tense) SDSU is a quality institution with quality athletics and academics as does UND (present tense) the big reason imo that NDSU wanted UND to move up was because of politics and tradition, that bridge has been burned and that benefit is definitely in the past i also think you're wrong about us leaving SDSU, they've been allies while you've been a$$holes (at least your fans and administration in general), why would we leave them? because we used to play you guys in football, give me a break
  9. true, but were talking about UND athletics in which i can honestly say i'm definitely still interested in
  10. yep, passed the rule last June to try to stop SDSU from leaving if UND wants to join the BSC this might be a big or insignificant hurdle depending on the timing the conference wants, i really don't think it would be that big of a deal if the Big Sky decides by next spring, so UND could spend 2006 in transition, I don't think they'd be able to join the conference until 2007 hypothetically
  11. i thought i used 'hopefully' when refering to the Big Sky NDSU doesn't need UND for anything it would have been fantastic if you have moved up with us this year.. but you didn't are we supposed to wait for you guys for some reason what do you have as an asset that SDSU doesn't football is definitely "the" sport in the BSC but there are other things to consider where SDSU matches up fairly well with UND, they definitely beat you in the men's bb program but they have actually declared that they want to be DI oh, wait they are DI, aren't they
  12. sorry about that, didn't mean to be too critical about your posts i still think that it is silly to think that rt has or will be sending a letter to the Big Sky, if he did i doubt they wouldn't take it seriously, not because of any absence of quality on the part of UND but because you have made no commitment whatsoever to going DI, why would they be interested?
  13. in response to your second post i don't ever remember hearing UND say their plate was too full to consider the move, it was something like (and i'm definitely paraphrasing here) UND is happy being D2 with a very successful DI hockey program if you can find me evidence to the contrary I'd love to read it i agree with your final question, UND is an outstanding position to go DI (I think that NDSU and UND have been (or were) DI schools in D2 clothing for too long)
  14. the problem with your claim dakotaboy is that it reeks of a conspiracy if you guys are looking, and i would be very happy if you are, why not say so? i don't know about your common sense claim and i definitely don't think UND would be throwing anything away by going DI also, while i believe that going DI is on rt's radar, i don't think its a major priority or that he's doing lots of leg work, he does have a pretty demanding job i'd be very happy to be proven wrong and learn that UND is actively considering moving up, but to insist that it's happening when the administration insists that it isn't seems a little paranoid
  15. you ok there mr. straight? or do you know something i don't is rt writing a letter? i doubt it
  16. and you guys have neither the letter nor the stamp
  17. i'd love to UND go DI, i'd also be fine if they stayed D2 my point is that the Big Sky is doing some big picture planning right now in considering new members, i don't see them going this again for at least five years and probably longer i wonder if UND didn't make a mistake, while ndsu might be extremely lucky
  18. Sickatocka, If you want UND to wait for a guaranteed conference home before moving up, you may be waiting for a very long time (your reference to the Carr Report) The Big Sky will be full, hopefully with NDSU as a member, and aligned for the next ten years at least You're not quite ready for the WAC or Mountain West You've got the Missouri Valley, which probably doesn't want the travel or the poor men's basketball program, so check them off the list So you're left with the Mid-Con! And I doubt that they'll guarantee you a spot either Looks like your home will be the NCC for eternity with the Conference First attitude
  19. that's exactly what i meant, make the most out of your facilities while they are new in ten years they will go from being breath-taking to just nice
  20. i missed the pilot one, sorry about that UND and NDSU are selective, just not as much as other institutions like nearly all other schools, they do have a GPA/ACT grid that they use to determine if a student has a moderate probability of receiving a degree, if they meet this standard they are in in some regards this standard isn't high enough as attrition is extremely high at both schools, however, the tuition revenue generated by these lackluster students must offset this bad statistic
  21. i didn't think you were being snotty at all with subjective ratings is that you end up with the results you want my biggest problem with these things is that some kid or his parent read it and think that by going to a "top 25" school they will have a better educational experience than if they went to UND or NDSU and in most cases that simply isn't true hell, if a kid is a big hockey fan or better yet a hockey player, is there a better place on earth to go to school than UND? if a kid wants to be a polymer chemist or wants a backdoor way to work for Microsoft, is there a better school than NDSU? how many kids end up going to Brown, Notre Dame, and the luck because of a perceived quality difference perpetuated by these bogus rankings? unless you're going to harvard, stanford, or the like, i say go to UND or NDSU
  22. Indiana the point about US News and World Report is that its methodology is completely subjective and even worse changes from year to year why are alumni contributions given a weight of x and another category given a weight of y, then the next year the weights are changed in order for the rankings to change, if they didn't no one would buy the magazines they'd keep their 1993 edition
  23. no its not, but for those of us who have graduate degrees statistics, us news and world report isn't the best measure it's also not to say that UND, or ndsu for that matter, don't have degree programs or lines of research that are far superior to those in mississippi
  24. i think we should take care when criticizing the mississippi educational system -neither ndsu nor UND hold a candle to ole miss as an institution -most of mississippi's best and brightest still go back east for an education, same as in north dakota, we just stop in grand forks or fargo -there is extreme poverty, the kind that make horror documentaries, in most of mississippi -there is still a class system most importantly, we need to think of Delta State as a Mayville or Valley City State, mississippi has a few more people than north dakota and thus larger schools and a bigger pool of football players to draw from, but there are a lot of students that aren't prepared or don't want to attend a more rigorous institution
  25. now dose is some gud facts
