Just call them the black jerseys. The business suits name is overused and has lost its luster since they can't even win with them.
When is the last time we won with them? I feel like it’s been a while. I might have missed a W recently however I know our record wearing them over the last 5 or so times cannot be good.

Is he even allowed to stay with the Vees if they move to the WHL? His WHL rights are held by Victoria, so I imagine he’d be forced to switch teams, but I don’t know the rules. Messy situation if you ask me lol.
That is messy…never thought about that. I’m sure Victoria will be asking for something in return.

True, but in many circles hockey is a niche sport too. Regardless, NDSU is getting far more national exposure than UND is these days. UND used to get talked about every year during tournament time. When is the last time when they have the selection show for the National Tournament where UND is even mentioned, much less someone picking them as the candidate to win it all?
To me they are two completely separate discussions. I am more concerned with the state of our hockey program at the moment.

Remember when there were arguments on which was the premier program in the state of North Dakota - NDSU football or UND hockey? It appears that question is moot now, as NDSU has a much, much higher standard of excellence, and culture. UND hockey gets complacent after 3 or 4 wins in a row, while NDSU doesn't get complacent after 3 or 4 titles in a row. Long for the day when the passion is there to actually compete for National Titles again in hockey.
Tough to compare tbh, one is the top level in our country….the other is a second tier league. I fully realize UND football is in the same boat, but it is what it is, that’s a fact.

Fitzy is a great player. He's also an outstanding young man. I hope we are in the running for him.
We can only pray. I’ve seen him play a bunch. He’s special.

All anecdotal, but I hear a lot less from commentators and scouts about the UND development pathway than I used to. Berry’s done a good job of finding some talent who was a bit overlooked early on but had high upside (Blake, Sanderson)..but certainly not winning many/any of the truly elite prospects that some other top programs are bringing in every year. I’d be surprised if UND was in the top 20 destinations for most advisors (CHL, NCAA, etc teams). After being probably top 5-10 under Hak. Not proof, but the days of GMs LOVING sending their guys to GFK as mentioned? I just don’t see it right now.
This seems to be true from my angle.

Perron has been turning down 6 figures the last two years, money talks.
His IQ needs to increase significantly for 6 figures. I’m sure he looks good skating around cones and that shot sure looks good off his blade, but 90% of the time it rings off the glass and his vision is pretty bad if you ask me. I’m next to certain he came in as a playmaker too haha. In all seriousness….this player is allowed to be creative. He’s spinning all over the place and holding onto pucks way too long. He will be a good player…but “Berry’s systems” aren’t ruining this player. He had a really long leash.

Speaking of Jay Pandolfo, he's rumored by some to be a candidate for the next Boston Bruins head coach. Or should I say the chatter is picking up.
I’ve heard that too…but I’ve also heard he’s in the same category as Carle. Dream job, young kids, doesn’t want to bounce around a bunch.

And yet it did zilch to our PW rating.
Can we even climb back at this point? We’ll need to win the NCHC tourney.

Pandolfo must not have been too thrilled with his goaltenders. He brought up a 6’5” freshman from Russia who’d been playing for the Omaha Lancers up until two weeks ago. Kid stopped about 40 shots tonight against the Eagles.
I believe there was an injury. But still…grab some Russian out of the ushl on the worst team in the league and the kid is the next coming of Tretiak? We need some luck here. Pandolfo is a great coach…another guy who lets the skilled kids go a bit.

Props to James...he was in on all four UND goals with 2g/2a.
Same to Livanavage...3 pt night and now leads the team in points.
Also...OMac had great hustle to track down that CC player who was going for the ENG and poke the puck away. That's about it.
Hopefully Perron can go tomorrow...if not, hope it's not long-term.The point totals on this team are absurd. We have players avg .3 pts/game on our PP. Nothing makes sense anymore. .3 isn’t that good for a dman.

In CFB, that would be like the HC at Vanderbilt turning down a shot at, say, Georgia or Alabama. If Raboin wants to climb the hockey pyramid & advance his talents to the highest level possible, UND affords him that opportunity way more than Augustana does. More resources, more visibility, more everything. Raboin is 20 yrs younger than Berry, has good connections w/ the national program, is an excellent recruiter, & I imagine the team would be playing a much more consistent game under his leadership.
It's abundantly clear that this program isn't going anywhere meaningful with the current coaching staff. Only question this off-season is will the UND AD have the testicular fortitude & foresight to pull the plug on BB & go a new direction.
This isn’t good.

Tough loss for the team, but you can’t say the team didn’t make it interesting at the end of the game. Never gave up

Mazden Leslie to BG…I was wondering if anyone was in one him. Really good numbers for a dman. BG has scooped up some decent dub commits.
-
I was just reviewing our players’ stats on CHN. The first thing I noticed…we don’t have too many overly productive players. Our 2nd and 3rd leading pt getters are dmen
second, the time on ice stat really caught my ice. Our leading scorer only plays 15 min/gm? Really shocking considering this isn’t an NHL schedule. It’s not overly demanding. Just interesting I guess, typically the top two lines are front loaded and it trickles from there. As an example, Snuggerrud on MN and the big dogs on BC…they’re at 18-20 minutes per game.

ITs just such an important and volatile time to be in this situation with a head coach. If there is a change it has to be done so well that the program comes out of it with a young exciting hire that comes in with a wrecking ball of confidence that it can sway the these kids in the CHL NIL era of which I now dub thee.... the CHILNIL Era.
I don't even think bringing a Hak back would work, with this age of pampered coddled spoiledass kids almost nothing seems to motivate them other than confidence, swagger, and a sense that the NEED to be included in the "thing"
UND has lost confidence and swagger in its culture unfortunately and I'm getting the sense amongst the kids, we aint the "thing" anymore.
And I know we didn't win it all those years but there was a heck of a lot of swagger when the Sioux showed up wheeling around their wheelbarrow full of frozen four nutsack.
In the 2000s…nobody wanted to play Nodak in the postseason. Nobody.

. In his 24 years between CC and MN he only missed 6 NCAA tournaments. This will be 4 in 9 years for Berry.
If there ever is a coaching replacement (and I do like Berry, but this last 9 yrs has been fairly uneventful, definitely not the power house we used to be) we need a global search. Think out side the box. Recruiting has to be at the forefront.

Starting to look like pretty dicey. That was a terrible meltdown last night. I doubt they can recover at this point. Decent squad on paper…can’t seem to gel.

If we lose it’ll hurt. I’ll say 5-3 DU with an empty netter…we’re up 3-2 heading into the third.
