  1. He's still around, but he kind of got buried on the depth chart. Rolland developed over him in the fall, and Strouth didn't give the coaches any choice but to play him with the skills he brings to the table. There was an injury there to Beatty too, but he is kind of a tweener at RB-not great speed, not great power, not great agility, not great strength.
  2. UND went after Moorman. The Bison have some things working in their favor in Dickinson. Lunde is an interesting kid. He is very big, but tends to play about 65% on the perimeter, ala Lindahl, but isn't as polished as Lindahl was at the same stage. Lunde could be very good, and could be a good get for the Bison because of their lack of size since almost the Reagan administration. If he is an above average player, you have a 6-10 PF with skills, if he doesn't develop, there is some size to stick in the lane.
  3. This weekend was great progress over the previous weekends performance, that is what I can take from it. Last night MJ really tried to take a step up in the 2nd half and was great. After Rype picked up his 2nd foul he lost any aggressiveness that he had for the entire game, and actually hurt us more then he helped on the defensive boards. Stoute played really well last night, surprising even the coaches. The Sioux need him to perform like he did last night every night, 4-6 pts, 3-4 boards, and physical aggressive play on both ends. Jacobson still needs to step-up. He is a talented guy, the kind of athlete every college coach in the country is looking for, versatile, long, and lean. He is way too indecisive with the ball, and simply holds it too long. He has proven to be tough to stop when going to the hole, but only doe it 2-3 times a game. Lindahl is an unbelievable shooter. Rarely when he makes a shot does it hit the rim, and his efforts on the boards in NCC play have been a pleasant surprise. With God knows what going on in Brookings, the Sioux have a legit shot at taking 2 next weekend. I suspect that on Fri, SDSU will either absolutely bury UND or lay down and get beat by 20. Billeter is a good coach, so he makes Augie a difficult opponent, but certainly beatable. Just a few observations.
  4. Coming into the year, I had the same thoughts. Right now, this team scares me a lot less then the last 10-12 Sioux teams, but they just win and it is great to see. I don't know how Leighton continually beats everyone back on the Sioux offensive end, but it is something that makes me think that she isn't hitting the D boards very hard. That is something that can be exploited, I hope it isn't, though. The women play good D and Hausauer is surprisingly playing great all-around basketball. Their bench is the best thing about the team, as Glick, Jahner, and Hausauer aren't causing the team to lose a step or talent when they are on the floor. One area of concern would have to be if Boese or Damaine get into foul trouble, not much size other then those 2 and Glick.
  5. Great win tonight over a team that was ranked #3 in the country in pre-season polls. The first half was very well played by UND and they worked USD's zone over pretty well. The 2nd half was pretty slow offensively. You gotta hate Josh Mueller, he whines about every single call. I thought the officiating was mediocre at best. Pretty impressive win though, especially considering UND really put an iron 6 on the floor.
  6. Interesting because I was watching when it happened. Wells layed on the floor and held his hand, but no one would've guessed it would be broken. This hurts more than it would seem. Stoute is so strong and physical inside that if he played more then 15 minutes he would probably foul out. It is, once again, another chance for the versatile Jacobson to step up, as he'll get more minutes as the PF tonight, in addition to his time at the 2 and 3.
  7. 1. How do you know that as a football player, playing second fiddle to hochey would be weird. 2. This obviously plays no role in recruiting as UND beats NDSU, a football school every year. 3. If you think it does play such a large role perhaps it is that the football players you know of (NDSU) simply have big egos. If someone doesn't want to play if playing second fiddle at UND, the class football program of the NCC, is such a dilema, they really wouldn't be good fits anyway. 4. Who the hell cares if UND only had 1 player on the Miracle on Ice Team. That isn't college hockey history, it is Olympic history and bares little reflection on UND hockey from a historic standpoint. 5. Once again, your speculation and pointless posts are tiring to say the least.
  8. Sodakfan who has been keeping us here up to date with Tyson Descamps is saying on the SDSU board that he has apparently verballed with St. Cloud. He would've been a good get, but it doesn't concern me if this is true. A poster replied to what Sodakfan said by asking why anyone would want to go to a school where hockey will always be number one. Comical.
  9. And look out for the Bison in the men's Final Four in 2005. Your speculation and ridiculous ideas are tiring to say the least.
  10. I've been really impressed with what I have seen of Mike Gutter on the floor. He is big, strong with the ball, and most of all knows where he scores best. Unlike a lot of big guys who should be on the block but wonder outside, Gutter is a good back to the basket player and works the block very well. At about 6'7" and already 230, he's got the potential to weigh 245-250 as well as enforce and dominate in the paint ala Chris Gardner.
  11. Jacobson in particular needs to step up, as he is more of an all-around player to Bradley's role playing. AJ can really fill 3 spots, everything but the point & center. The thing is that ever since his redshirt FR year at UNI he hasn't been making shots. If I recall correctly he isn't shooting much better then 35% this year and his 3% is much worse. He needs to be a scorer, 8-12 a game, for this team to have a shot in the NCC. He should cause physical mismatches with everyone who guards him because of his ball skills, passing, and size. With his versatility, he is the one the Sioux need to play better because of the options he creates in the lineup when he is on the floor.
  12. I don't think it was the offensive system that was the problem, but the play-calling. I don't understand having the supposed 2 fastest players in the NCC split out wide and not even attempting to utilizing that speed at all. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that something is wrong with that picture. Hell, Sioux fans were mad that we didn't take more shots deep with Lueck, so if I were a Bison fan I'd be more then upset with the play-calling. Frankly, I was surprised with the lack of conversation on that topic during the season.
  13. This should make all Bison fans happy. With "weapons" like they claim Marques Johnson and Allen Burrell are, you'd think they could average more than 8-9 yards a catch. And it doesn't matter if they don't go too far down field, it's called YAC. The Sioux receivers don't have much trouble getting those yards, and they aren't that "fast" when compared with the Bison's ultra-dynamic (and productive) duo.
  14. Lack of exposure, lack of good coaching. I think that there are 5-10 o & d lineman every year who could play DI in the state. Others: Waye Terry QB @ Iowa St from Valley City Lance Sannes OL @ Minnesota from Wahpeton (may be a walk-on) there is a lineman at one of the military schools from ND right now, name escapes me
  15. Another to add to the list- Mike Yilek, 6'3" 265 lb center from Eden Prairie, All-Conference, Star Tribune All-Metro, 3 year starter at Eden Prairie (very impressive), and an excellent HWT wrestler. I've been told by a reliable source that he verballed, visited over Dec 19, 20.
  16. Sweeney had it on sports that Austin is back and will be playing this weekend. Great news. Hopefully he gells quickly with the team and the offense.
  17. It's my understanding of college football that if you are ranked 16th in the second to last poll of the year in D1A college football, as Boise St is, you are doing pretty dam well. I could be wrong, though. If you think Syracuse is a basketball school just becuse they won the national title last year in basketball you obviously have no idea of college football history. Some names come to mind like Ernie Davis, Jim Brown, Donovan McNabb, Adrian Mcpherson, Rob Konrad, and Dwight Freeney off the top of my head, the first a Heisman Trophy winner and the next 3 all having nearly won the Heisman.
  18. The Aaron Austin situation is pretty much dealt with and it is a matter of days before he starts up. The holdup is NCAA compliance stuff, and that is getting done. It is a done deal for the most part and he'll be playing the rest of the year. It was hoped he'd be good to go for the SDSU holiday tourney but the compliance situation wasn't completely dealt with. Great news, although it will take a bit for him to gell/get back in the groove. I'd rather go to war with him than without him, though. He is an important component, too, as he adds depth at the 2, the 3, and allows for added depth at the point as MJ and Austin were talked about being moved there in the preseason. Mankato's starting PG who transfered in from U of Ohio (a starter there) quit a few days ago, making them potentially a more vulnerable team. Through all the injuries, things are shaping up for the Sioux to make a run at a top 4 finish, which I think is a definite possibility with the league parity outside of SDSU.
  19. I'd be surprised if the Bison didn't recruit JUCO Dlineman every single year from now on. That is where perhaps the largest contrast is between divisions, the size/speed of these Dlineman. Lets be honest, there aren't too many DE's that fit that bill in MN and the Dakota's. Also, the secondary is a place where I wouldn't be surprised at all for them to go to the JUCO ranks for year after year. The Bison coaches had better familiarize themselves with the Jayhawk Conference pretty quick. IAA teams as a whole rely on JUCO kids greatly, just look at the rosters of the teams in the Gateway. I'd guess it is going to be more of the norm for the Bison then just a bridge during the transitionary period, and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
  20. Dale Lennon has yet to show that he is anything but an Amy Ruley type. No, I don't mean he is a homosexual, just that he may remain loyal to a university, his alma mater, and stay on as coach even though being offered positions by schools that are in higher divisions.
  21. On the big-man recruiting end of it, Brett Winkelman out of Morris was in for a visit earlier this year, and everyone is very high on him. He's about 6'7" and is a combo 3/4 guy who St. Cloud, SDSU, UND, NDSU are all going after pretty hard, but he wants DI. He'd be a great get. Something that may have slipped through the cracks is the fact that the younger VerDouw from Bismarck signed early with Augie. I don't think UND showed much interest, but I respect Tom Billiter's (former NDSU coach who made great strides with them) ability to coach and evaluate talent. In any case, either he or UND is wrong about the kid, and VerDouw being from Bismarck, I hope it isn't UND.
