The NCAA will come up with some contrived difference, most likely, the stipend is for "sporting performance and play" (sport salary, aka pro) and NIL is for personal appearances and endorsements (name/image/likeness) ... like the two aren't directly linked*.

*if Gerrell's was looking for an endorsement from a "UND student" here's a hint ... I know the first 26 names they'd approach.

The current Supreme Court does not care what the NCAA thinks or will come up with.

Here are my questions for the jersey experts.

Were the Gemini jerseys just used for one season? Other than obviously the manufacturer and swoosh, what were the style or color differences between the Gemini’s and the Nike’s that followed for the next handful of seasons?

    Thanks.

Geminis where approximately 1995-1996 through 2001-2002.  95-96 was first year with the geometric logo. In 96-97, the ND shoulder patches were added and the same design used until 2000-2001. I believe Gemini did the first jersey with the Brien logo when new Engelstad opened in 2001.  Nike took over the following season, 2002-2003, but I don’t think there was really any difference between the two.

The last few games (that I’ve watched) Blake is holding onto pucks way too long. He extremely skilled, but he’s turning over pucks constantly. With his vision he should be moving pucks quickly. He does have decent possession skills, but he walks the line so much that he misses multiple plays each sequence. He won’t make the next level if he doesn’t move pucks quicker.

Biggest bonehead play of the game was that HJ penalty when we were a man up. That can never happen. He should get pulled off the pp for a game or two after that one.

100%  These same damn things happened last week in Denver.

Blake had a brutal offensive zone turnover last Friday in the 1st that could have easily made it 5-1 Denver by the end of the first.

HJ took an offensive zone penalty 30 seconds into UNDs first power play last Friday too.

It’s as if Bubs and staff got back from Denver and decided to do absolutely zero coaching and film watching this week …

    F Michigan,

"Michigan played 60 minutes trying not to lose and got away with it. If they played 20 times, UND probably beats them 17 or 18 times."....Barry Melrose

Conversation with Barry as he was enjoying a Cigar outside the Embassy Suites on Friday morning as we were heading to the Twins game....didn't make me feel any better.

I hear ya. There’s been a few—98, 99, 21 NCAAs—but 2011 FF has always been the toughest loss for me to swallow as a Sioux fan.

I think Sioux were riding something like a 16 game winning streak and outshot Michigan 40 to 20.

He definitely wasn’t ready last year for any team.

Senden or Hain for one more year or get Spicer into your program?

We know how Senden and Hain worked out, and  Spicer’s had a really nice start to just his second season.

  6. Not sure which thread is best to post this question, but... Does anyone have a list of the top 20ish 06 and 07 recruits?

(I know there is Schlossman's list, but I understand that to be a mix a high-end talent, players UND will be pursuing, and more local names.  I am wondering if there is more objective (to the extent possible) list of the top recruits out there).

He picked his up mid-season though, if you remember. I'm pretty sure I've never seen this.

Correct.  Ford got an "A" in January.

I guess the way I see it, if an underclassmen was not going to wear an "A", then the options were either a Transfer or Ness/Kunz--two players who struggled for ice time and actually played less games last year than the season before.  You want your captains on the ice.  A Transfer "A" just makes a whole lot of sense to me in this scenario.

You take a 1st rounder when you can, any team would and yes the '16 team had BB in 2016 and won a Natty... BUT if you review memory lane and UND's history in 1st rounders: Sanderson, Pinto, Bernard-Docker, Nelson, Oshie, Zajac, Stafford, Lee, Finley etc. = No national title :-(

I do believe UND needs to get more commits out of USNDPT team though, 100%

2016 team had 11 players spend time in the NHL.

    Not bad.

It’s a reasonable want. Not sure we’ll ever be able to recruit how we did in the mid to late 2000s (those years were fun). But again, it’s a reasonable want. I always have to say this on this board, I do like some of the recruits we have coming in I do.

100% Some blue chips on those teams at the time that’s for sure.

2005-2006 had six first rounders: stafford; zajac; lee; oshie; finley; and toews, and chorney (36th overall) and smaby (41st) weren’t too far behind.

Just because a guy was a great player (Larry Olimb) doesn't mean he is automatically a great coach.

My understanding is Olimb coached one season, which resulted in a 24-4-4 record and a state title game appearance.

I’m not in the know, so serious question, what exactly did he do wrong or why is he not considered a good enough coach?

Not a huge surprise but still an early departure.

Nice. They’ve lost their top 3 1st rounders—Fantilli, Hughes, and Samoskevich— but still have McGroarty and Nazar.

Are they bringing in another arsenal of 1st rounders or is Michigan’s window on their insane recruiting pulls over the last few years starting to close?

There is the current issue with the Winnepeg Ice and how they didn't get an arena and were playing at University of Manitoba's arena.

WHL announces relocation of Winnipeg ICE franchise to Wenatchee, Washington for 2023-24 season – WHL Network

And like that the Winnepeg Ice are sold and now called the Wenatchee Wild.

Thank you!  So more along the lines of a higher tier team relocating to new city and using that new city’s current name.
