What about the .6 game against Minnesota and the near equivalent against New Hampshire, nevermind the overtime winner being overturned against BU. We probably don’t remember all the things that went our way though.  We just need to make more breaks for ourselves, by sometimes something as simple as shooting the puck and getting to the net.

For a team that lost with .6 seconds failing to back check in the national tournament, it always amazed me how they did the exact same thing against Notre Dame in 2022.  But we were lucky that game that the puck went in the net .6 seconds after the horn blew.  Too bad the boys didn’t come out to play in overtime.

We are the Dallas Cowboys of college hockey.

Brad Berry is our Mike McCarthy whom won a title of yesteryear but has failed to produce much in the postseason since.  Our history and legacy is akin to being "America's Team"...both widely loved by its fans but hated by most others.  Now we've both become the laughing stock of the postseason performance.

Ugh, I cringed reading this, but don’t necessarily disagree with you.

The only thing I might disagree on is that Brad is more like a Barry Switzer—coming in and winning a Super Bowl right after the success of Jimmy Johnson followed by years of the team having absolutely no playoff relevance whatsoever.

But hey, their tradition, stadium, and jerseys are lit! Sound like a team we know?

I wonder if Bubba Schweiggert has texted B-Rad yet, congratulations and don't wait on hitting up Chavez Chavez for an extension.  Have to hit while the iron is hot!

A first round playoff loss is the ceiling for any coach named Bubba.

Good grief my memory is getting bad.  Or there are so many first round losses and tournament misses that it’s hard to keep track!

Your memory is fine, I definitely think it’s the latter.

Fargo regionals next year. So that means a first round regional loss, right?  Or wait, since it’s Fargo, do we even make it to NCAAs next year?  It’s gotta be one or the other though.

Or maybe Michigan is a good team and it is unrealistic to expect a team like that won’t control portions of a game, especially after a terrible bounce provides a huge momentum shift?

I just think it interesting that everyone pining for the Hakstol days seems to be forgetting that his teams also consistently collapsed when it mattered.  His only team that I felt actually brought it to the Frozen Four is the team that lost to Denver in the title game.

Hakstol’s 2005 frozen four team was good. Hakstol’s 2011 frozen four team and performance was pretty damn good too.

Serious question- How is losing to a team like Michigan by ONE GOAL not being in the mix for a title?  Let’s stop pretending like they lost to the 16 seed.

Because beating them would have meant UND was still two more wins away from even playing for the title.  Not sure I would say a first round regional game is being “in the mix for a title”.

  7. Why do I read posts suggesting the options are only: (1) you either get one natty and no other post season success; or (2) post season wins and no natty.

How about option (3)? This is North Dakota where you should always have post season success while always competing for national championships.

    Name me a decade since the 1940s where North Dakota hasn’t had a team that won a natty? 58-59, 62-63, 79-80, 81-82, 86-87, 96-97, 99-00, 15-16

I need to correct an error in regards to UND since 2016.  The team is 1-4 in NCAA Regional Tournament games since then, not 1-5.

    2019:  loss to BU

2021:  win vs AIC, loss to UMD

    2022:  loss to Notre Dame

    2024;  loss to Michigan

2017 loss to BU. Like 2023, 2019 was another year Bubs failed to get to Fargo. Not to be confused with 2021 and 2017, where Bubs failed to get out of Fargo.

    Wasted opportunities.....

#1 seed in Sioux Falls...packed barn. Basically a home game.

F4 at the X....same thing. UND fans would have payed whatever to go.

Don’t forget Fargo regionals.  2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023 red carpet to the Frozen Four.  More wasted opportunities…

This is what I’ve been locking into. At this point it isn’t dumb (bad) luck. We have 1 NCAA win since 2016. That’s insane (for a program like ours).

Every 8 season's, the Engelstad arena red-light therapy beds, cryochamber, steam room, nap room, private chef making three meals a day, etc, produce 1 playoff win against the American International’s of the college hockey world.

    Seems worth it.

honestly, on the replay, im not sure he even caught his head

Right? Looked like he went for it, but skimmed his head at best. I think it was the knee/thigh contact that caused the real collision.

It is actually AIC home rink. I have not seen anything about AIC being a co-host though, so maybe thats the loophole, you can host at a different teams home venue? We also had the ghost host of Providence in Providence, by having Brown host but still always placed at the Dunkin Donut center, which is their basketball home arena.

Ahh, makes sense. Their logo on the ice and boards next to UMASS was throwing me off.

When was out last OT win in the NCAA tournament? Drawing a blank. The losses are what sticks with you.

    Ferris State 2014?

    I'd deal with a crazy dad for 30+ points/year from a Dman

That’s what I would think too. This can’t be the first time Berry encountered a “hockey parent” while recruiting.  I wasn’t there though, but makes me wonder how difficult he must actually be.

I was just teasing about the didn’t want him stmt. Gf hockey always writes that so I leached it off him/her.

Obv we could’ve used him but it didn’t work out. The dad messed around with the force when the trade happened and Scott no showed. Bubs and crew wanted him to play a full year of juniors and papa morrow said no dice, he’s going to stay at shattuck and put up video game numbers (not a terrible idea, however communication was terrible). Papa morrow wanted to play college puck right away thinking he was ready (he was), but the coaching staff wanted him to play a yr of juniors. It was a deal breaker. Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose.

The aftermath produced a rumor that he couldn’t play D and he was a bad kid. Both of which were never true. He’s a great kid I guess. Again, the dad controls everything and is a huge pain (supposedly).

Thanks! Wasn’t trying to be critical of the “didn’t want him statement”. I knew full well what you meant. lol.  Just always found it weird having read the “dad is crazy” comments on here but never having heard the full back story.

Didn’t want him ;) in all seriousness papa morrow is nuts supposedly

I see people make that general statement on here all the time.

I’ve never heard anyone make a specific statement about how he is nuts; if not, so nuts that he (as a player’s parent, no less, living in a different time zone) would outweigh a perennial 30+ point performer from the blue line.

But hey, at least we got that Johnson kid to take Morrow’s spot.

Doesn’t Lindenwood play their games in the same rink? How can they host if so?

Schools can host on campus if there are no other bids. Notre Dame hosted a regional on campus (2015, I believe) because no one else bothered to put in a bid.

I have a blank green Reebok and FF patch to make up for the banner year. Who do I get? So many options. I already have a white Boeser FF.

Colten St Claire and add the “A”. Although he technically did not play a game in a Sioux jersey, he was a redshirt member of the 2011-2012 team, which kind of makes him the final player at UND to have worn a Sioux jersey.  I’m guessing there’s a team photo of him wearing it something.

  19. I thought the perennial powers were in favor of onsite regionals (im thinking UND, Minny, Michigan, BU, BC, etc) but it’s the other 50 or so schools who are against it?

For example, the Yale’s, Union’s, and Providence’s of the college hockey world probably don’t win national championships the last decade if they have to go into Grand Forks to win national tournament games.  They have better odds beating UND in Toledo, OH in front of 1,166 generic fans instead 11,667 Sioux fans in Grand Forks.

  20. Quinnipiac’s won 8 of the last 12 ECAC regular championships. In that same time, they have 1 conference tournament championship.  I’m taking Dartmouth, who was 0-1-3 against Cornell and Quinnipiac, as my dark horse.
