  1. My dad, who usually is a Jacks fan, repped UND and was quite happy with the win. He doesn’t usually despise the Yotes but is not a fan of Todd Lee. The Yote fans behind us were passionate and into it, but were respectful and shook hands at the end. Also ran into someone on the officials bench at the hotel: he said the shot clock call was blown.
  2. I’m ready to lean towards slightly overachieving.
  3. In the 2nd stunner of the Summit Tournament, Marlon Stewart hit the go-ahead shot with 10 seconds to go and Brady Danielson nailed 2 clutch free throws to lead UND to an massive upset against USD. Now they march on to the semi-finals of the Summit Tournament as they take on the 7th seeded Dons, who upset SDSU. Everyone was expecting a SDSU-USD semi-final tilt, guess someone forgot to tell the Dons and the Hawks. Fort Wayne decided to stick around in the Summit for at least one more game with some hot shooting from 3. The door is still open for them to perhaps complete they one thing they have never done... advance to the NCAA tournament and end their time in the Summit on top. Key player: Matt Holba The big for the Dons hit 6 3's in the upset against SDSU and when UND played them in Fort Wayne, he hit 4 big 3's. When UND played them in Grand Forks... donut. UND needs to keep him in check. The Fallen: Denver: It was a tough way for the Pios to go out, nearly taking down the top seed. Not everything is bad however, they return the entire team minus Murkey… they will rocket up the Summit Standings next year. Omaha: ORU was the better team in the 2nd half, but they return some nice pieces. Pile grabbed 21 rebounds, tying a Summit tournament record, and he will be back. So will Tut and Ruffin. Have to replace Gibson and Robinson. Should be at least mid-pack team next year. SDSU: The first stunner. Not having Wilson made a difference but there is a hard feeling that they let one slip away for the 2nd year in a row. Again: not all is bad for SDSU as they return a great core next year. Should be the top team next year. USD: The second stunner: USD loses a LOT from this team. 4 starters and who knows is Umude comes back. USD cannot be happy that they flamed out in the 1st round and Lee is going to have to turn it around. I could see USD falling a lot in the standings. The other semi-final: #1 NDSU vs #4 ORU: This will be a good game. Can NDSU get more than Ward and Vinnie to help out the Bison? Which ORU will show up tomorrow? Milestones: DAE is 25 points away from the freshman record. He probably will need another game to have a chance to break it, but he could do it with a monster game. Stewart has 162 assists this season, which is good for 7th place in the single season record book. He would need to get 5 to get to 6th place. His 357 assists are 9th best all time at UND, and would need 4 to pass Aaron Anderson for 8th. Also, his 1232 career points at UND is 19th all time in scoring. He could get pass Seales points if he scores more than 6. Keys: 1) Win the 3 point battle 2) Get Rebraca going 3) Play another 40 The Call: I think the momentum from tonight will carry over to tomorrow and UND will win this game. Rebraca has a big double-double and DAE has a better game. Marlon, Billy and Walter hit it from 3 and get to Tuesday Night UND 81-71 Bonus: NDSU 77-74 Game is on MIDCO and ESPN+, however if you can find a way to get to Sioux Falls... DO IT!
  4. I just got back to the hotel. My thoughts: This was Sather's best coached game of the season. He pushed every button and got after his guys and the refs. How he handled Marlon and Rebraca with 2 fouls for a good chunk of the 1st half was excellent. This was a big team win, but I want to highlight a few individuals. Billy Brown: THAT is the Billy that UND needs the rest of the tournament. That was the guy who shot 46% from 3 last year. He was making good cuts to the basket and being aggressive. Brady Danielson: He was getting his butt kicked for most of the night truthfully, but the last 30 seconds of the game... he showed what he is capable of. Draws a charge that led to the winning bucket on the other ends, battles and grabs the rebound, and calmly knocks down the clutch free throws. Marlon Stewart: I told the guy sitting next to me before Marlon hit the shot that he needed to drive to the hoop or hit that mid-range Q jumper. He hit another clutch shot. DAE and Rebraca struggled, but they battled and had big moments down the stretch. 6-6 from free throw line down the stretch. Clutch. Any chance you guys can get down to Sioux Falls... do it. The door has been swung WIDE open for UND to get to the title game on Tuesday night. They do need to get by the Dons.... can't think ahead just yet.
  5. No I want NDSU. I want the Bison I want to beat the Dons and NDSU to beat ORU. I don't care if every Bison fan says be careful what you wish for... I want them!
  6. They need to come out the same way in the 2nd half as they did the first.
  7. Tough finish to the half but credit Sather for how he managed Stewart and Rebraca once they got their two fouls. They can win this.
  8. The good ORU showed up in the 2nd half to make this a runaway
