  1. Although I was upset about how long it took; I was appalled that the AR had to make the "boarding" call on Jones in the Minny game. As a Sioux fan I definetly wasn't hoping for a solid 5 minutes of penalty kill time but the second that player went down into the boards I expected the call to be made. To my surprise it wasn't called by the offical. The day after Bina was sent to a hospital on a stretcher I couldn't believe that anything resembling a check from behind wasn't given at least a 2 min penalty. It wouldn't have except for the AR. Then again in the night came came the huge elbow that sent a player to the bench. Showing the ref the bloodly towel only caused him to shake his head and skate back to the next faceoff. What will it take to make things change??? It if doesn't even get called the next day can we expect it to make an impact next year???

    Robbie Bina

Valid point, however according to this quote from the INCH article, someone on the other sideline saw it; just a little differently
  3. The TWO THINGS that troubled me the most from Friday's Games: 1) without commenting on the Sioux vs. Denver game I cringed every time a player came up from behind and hit somebody in the CC vs MN game. There was at least one or two instances when a player went down right next to the boards. Now I know that not everything should be a penalty much less a 5 min. and I was still angry (and nervous) from the afternoon game but if I'm the WCHA I tell Shepherd to call the evening game as tight as possible. If anybody comes even close to thinking about a check from behind they are in the box for 5 min. Instead 90% of the penalties called in that game where holding the stick or obstruction interference that occured well behind the play. Good call by Shepherd and the rest of the WCHA to send a message that a player's trip to the hospital earlier in the day meant nothing on how they chose to officiate the game. WE PRAY FOR A FULL RECOVERY ROBBIE. GET WELL SOON! 2)
  4. Point well taken. I completly agree but I couldn't believe that I had heard people at the arena saying they thought Brandt would get a nod. That's take care of business tonight and make this thread newsworthy.
  5. "Hakstol said that if the Sioux win tonight, it's not likely he'll play Parise in goal on both Friday and Saturday. Either freshman Philippe Lamoureux or senior Jake Brandt is likely to get a start Friday or Saturday. The mental demands on a goalie's sharpness, Hakstol said, would be as stressing on a goalie as trying to play three games in less than 72 hours." ~Quoted from the Grand Forks Herald At this point does Brandt get a shot after not playing a game forever? I'm assuming Hak was just throwing his name in the mix to be nice but I have heard several other people say they wouldn't be surprised to see him get a nod in the playoffs. It would shock me but I'm wondering if others think differently? I know he's a senior but I think age gets thrown away come playoffs. Best man/men gets the call. I'm excited at the way Jordy is playing and he is clearly the man unless he has a disaster. I do think it is a good idea to play someone else in the final five to give Jordy some rest and keep sharp mentally. Philippe has proven himself this year and is waiting in the wings competing for the job. If the sioux win one or two does Philippe get the shot? I hope so. Kudos to Brandt though. I hear he is a firecracker in the locker room getting everyone pumped up and he was fun to watch out on the ice after the sweep of Duluth.

  9. Check this out: They are not overally confident in Gopherville: http://www.prideonice.com/chat/viewthread....=10501&sec_id=1 I think this is the first time I have ever seen Gopher fans this unsure about a series. I think as Sioux fans we aren't positive on a sweep but anything less the 2 or 3 points is going to be disappointing. And, in the back of our minds if we play up to our potential, we win each game by a couple of goals.

    UND @ MAINE

It is amazing to hear announcers talk about the "quality oppenent" rather than hearing them complain about something. Maine had a good webcast, with lots of respect of the sioux and the program.

Greene gets a little lucky but with all the other weak penalties called they can let one slide.

I am impressed with Spirko so far. I don't think he has the offensive ability (at least not yet) of the former 11 but he certainly keeps his legs moving along the boards and creates some space for himself and the offense.

Sioux have two more great chances with rebounds; Howard looks shakey.

The sioux are playing strong; good hustle causing maine to have problems clearing the puck. This has been a solid period.

after the whistle he drops their player after jimmy howard already has covered the puck. dive or not why get you shoulder into the maine player with the play being called this tight; your team up and pouring on the pressure.

Spirko has come to play this period with great cycling buying time for the first goal and the great pass to set up stafford.
