  1. Just reposting this nugget... wow - you need to talk to your coach because he was recruiting him at QB.

He also recruited Wentz and Stanford last year. Two qb's. Chances are....one of them will play and one of them wont. Depth. I trust the coaches more than myself, maybe they think he would be a 4 year starter....maybe they want depth. Maybe he is just a solid qb from the area and they figure why not go for him?

  2. Yep, Mollberg may be good enough to get an offer from a Big 10 school as a QB but would never see the field in that capacity if he went to NDSU. Makes perfect sense.

You tell me when he would get to play and I'm glad to listen. Jensen could easily start through 2013. If he isn't starting, it is Wentz I think, but Thorton and Stanford(pretty excited about this guy coming out of high school) very well could too. That means NDSU more than likely has the QB's on the roster that will play through 2015. Wentz, I read on some FCS recruiting site, apparently has NFL talent, I think everyone in the state would probably agree that that is pretty ambitious, but you get the picture, he can throw the ball around the yard.

Mollberg's numbers aren't overly impressive when it comes to throwing the ball, he had more interceptions than td's last season. That can be from a variety of problems(tipped balls, hit white throwing, etc) but playing Class A football in Minnesota and having those numbers doesn't impress me. I understand he has great running numbers and that is obviously great for a college QB to have. He obviously has talent if Iowa is taking a good hard look at him, but like I said, I just don't see him as someone who would be anything more than a one year starter at NDSU. Would I like to have him in Fargo? Yes. Would I be fine with him playing QB? Yes. Would I like to see them try him out at other positions? Yes. Do I think he is better than the guys we have? No, but no one will know if he has any talent until he gets to college. Once upon a time in Fargo we thought Jose was going to save us, fail.

For UND's sake, you better hope Iowa doesn't offer, he should be a solid player at worst, and could be a pretty dang good one at best.

  3. What channel and time?

NDSU plays at 1 on North Dakota NBC and Comcast Sportsnet Chicago. I don't know if Comcast Sportsnet Chicago comes with the normal package. Doesn't affect me really.

What time does UND play at? I wouldn't mind keeping tabs on how they are doing against what appears to be a solid team.

  4. Maybe Mollberg's commit to UND has him worried?? :silly:

Mollberg's commit pending Iowa offer. He is a great athlete, wish he would have decided on NDSU but oh well. He wouldn't have taken a snap at QB during his time in Fargo but no reason to think he couldn't get used in other ways. He is a good get for UND if Iowa decides not to offer. I still don't think Bohl is overly worried about UND. #1, different conferences. #2, Bohl has done a great job recruiting (minus a year or so), and #3, he has other things on his plate, such as the Missouri Valley.

Darrell, UND's history is just like any good program, they shouldn't be down for long but you never know, my Fighting Irish have been saying that since the Mid-90's. Another example is a team in Greely, Colorado. The jump to Division 1 has not been kind to what was a very proud program.

  5. Craig Bohl to the Gophers = I could no longer cheer for the Gophers.

Not that Craig Bohl isn't a good football coach, but he is college football's answer to Bill Belichik. A smug and pompous little weasel of a man who is so full of himself it's sickening. He's a good coach, just ask him.

I wouldn't compare him to Belichick, Belichick outcoaches teams on a terrifyingly regular basis. Bohl just happens to have a better team than most coaches throughout his time at NDSU. Belichick can piss liquid gold and shat diamonds. I hate him. College football's answer to Belichick is one good sir by the name of Nick Saban (As far as ability to coach, not so much in attitude.) Maybe Saban is tired of dominating at Alabama and will move on to a new challenge up in the B1G? Minnesota led by Nick Saban would be the scarriest thing that state has had since Dr. Lou coaching the Goofs.

  6. That a boy, Bohl. Good for you Kolpack. Keep telling the voters (coaches in this case) they are too stupid to know the difference between UND and NDSU. That should win you lots of votes. ;)

Doing well in the 3rd toughest conference in FCS would do that too. Maybe tell the voters (coaches/coach's assistants in this case) that they are stupid and then go out and win games...that way, they have no reason to withhold votes ;)

  7. No. I was replying that UND is still in the poll at #24 contrary to what Dan said about them dropping out. Also, that Bohl seems to be pretty interested in the polls since he took time out of his press conference to vent out about them while Kolpack was nodding his head approvingly.

Why was Bohl so worked up this week about the poll - they moved up to #6? Is he more worked up about them dropping to #12 or UND being in the poll? Seems if he was mad about dropping to #12 he would have vented last week when Jeff asked him.

I don't think he really cares. He is going to talk about things the media might be interested in hearing about. I'm sure Muss is the same way. Coaches in general just want to win games and do their part in getting their team better. I'm sure he wasn't pleased about randomly dropping to #12, cause that means people aren't as impressed with the product he is putting on the field as they were a week earlier when his team didn't even play. I try to not read too much into the polls, there are so many of the damn things. The great thing about the FCS, for NDSU and for UND, is if you get enough wins, you go to the playoffs, and get an opportunity to either show you are better than people think, or you are worse than what people thought.

Should be UND's biggest opportunity to make a jump in the polls this week. SUU is apparently a pretty solid team despite the hickup against SDSU. UND hasn't impressed me so far outside of a tight game with Fresno St. If they want fans to get excited and get a good atmosphere in the Alerus, this would be a great week to play good. All I can hope for is that NDSU plays well in the Valley and merits a seed. I wouldn't mind staying in the Fargodome until January.

  8. Flyers Vs. Rangers at Eagle's stadium this winter. Might actually watch it if the flyers are looking any good. To the gentleman who said it'd have to be Gophers vs. UND, I think you are forgetting about Wisconsin. Both Wisconsin and UND could bring in pretty good numbers I would imagine.

  9. They are #24. And your coach seems to be pretty worried so they must matter.

Bohl is worried about UND being ranked #24 in the country? Something tells me he is a bit more concerned with the Valley for the next 3-4 months until off-season recruiting starts up.

  10. As I asked before: Would Minnesota be ranked in the FCS top 25?

Like someone said, yes, Lakes is at it again. As for Minnesota, I think they would be. Keep in mind they played NDSU closer than the scoreboard, they played USC close, layed an egg against NMSU and beat Miami (OH). I think their squad has the talent and ability that would simply overpower FCS teams.

  11. What'd I say from the beginning? Someone will always find something to be 'offended' about.

Tarheels (UNC) derives from a Southern (pro-slavery) NC militia unit's nickname. Southerners were not necessarily pro-slavery, rather they were pro-state's rights.

Sooners (OU) is the nickname for folks that stole Indian lands "sooner" than it was legal to (<-- ponder that for a minute).

Vandals (Idaho) were a northern European (Germanic) tribe that sacked Rome in 455 AD. Yes, TRIBE. Vandals are Europeans....hence no one cares. As most Americans have some Northern European.

Crusaders (Holy Cross)? When will CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) chime in on that? A crusader is anyone who fights for a holy cause, not necessarily a member of the Crusades.

Maccabees (Yeshiva of NY)? Not all Jews hold the Maccabees in high regard. No further questions your honor.

Trojans (USC)? How do the Greeks feel about that? A city destroyed aroudn 1000 BC, no one left to care.

Spartans (Mich State)? Will Persians (Iranians) chime in? Destroyed by Rome and decay in the BC years.

And yes, eagles and buffalos are sacred images in some Native American religions. So is Jesus who was a man, there is certain things even the NCAA wont do...

Thunderbirds (SUU) are part of Native American mythos as well. Thunderbirds can be argued, are simply birds who fly through thunderstorms.

Should the Miami Hurricanes ever play in post-Katrina New Orleans? Perhaps if they win a championship the entire state of Florida and the Gulf region will back them up?

    Just playing Devil's advocate bro.

  12. Only 10.5? ???

It'll be a pathetic showing by the Gophers if they don't win by at least 20. Not saying what will happen, just what should happen. Obviously things don't always play out on the field the way they would on paper, as that is why they play the games.

I'd take the points, then again I am a biased NDSU fan. NDSU has a pretty solid team this year and while I would not be shocked if the Gophers won by more than ten, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bison won by 10 either. Should make for an interesting game betting wise. gophers have played the jekyll and hyde so far(USC and NMSU), we will see by this 10 o'clock Saturday night!

  13. Speaking of which, I wonder why UND and Souther Illinois haven't scheduled a home and home yet. (sorry slight off topic).

I too am very proud of that team. Greatest in all of Sioux football history!!!

They probably haven't because SIU MIGHT not be interested in coming up here. Who knows though...It'd be a great homecoming for Lennon. UND has had some good teams, they might be the best, they might not be, but they did everything they possibly could to prove they are the best UND has put out there, they won the championship! Something those players can be very proud of for sure, fans who were along for the ride will probably always have good memories of that team!

  14. UND should continue to grow. There is a lot of land that can house new buildings for both classrooms and living quarters too, unlike NDSU which its space is limited in North Fargo therefore making classrooms downtown. So I would say as long as people are able to fork over the tuition they should not be denied education at UND or NDSU due to capacity.

NDSU owns a lot of land in North Fargo. Lots of room to go still. A lot of the houses on University are now property of NDSU, word is that once they buy up a few more of them they will be tearing them down for new builds. Also if you go west of the Fargodome there is a lot of room. Both schools have a lot of area to build in. NDSU put the business school downtown because of how cheap it was to remodel rather than build.

  15. Go away, you are delusional if you think MN is on a level playing field with Fresno this year. This post is not about UND, Idaho, or Fresno.

I'd say Minnesota is capable of beating Fresno St. this year, would they beat them? Maybe, maybe not. They did just beat the MAC champs and generally MAC champs aren't bad. I'd say Minnesota losing to USC by 2 would at least be comparable to getting rocked in the 4th quarter by Nebraska. That same Nebraska team had a relatively competitive game with Washington, a Pac-12 team who is going to be pretty bad season. Not that any of it matters, a win over Minnesota still gets more legitimacy because even if they are bad, which they definitely were against NMSU(hopefully Saturday night as well), they are still a Big Ten team.

  16. This one is easy for me. I always cheer for the Gophers and I always cheer for whoever the Bison are playing against. The only way that I would ever not cheer for the Gophers is if they were to play the Sioux (which I hope they never do), and there is no circumstance in which I would ever cheer for the Bison ever. So, Go Gophers!!!

Don't see why you got neg repped here. I got the same mentality (vice versa)

  17. Maybe if we were in the same conference as NDSU I would root for the Bison (that's a big maybe) but I can't help but feel that if NDSU does pull off the upset it won't be good for UND in terms of winning over state support for the football program. I know this a big deal for Bison fans but Minnesota isn't a true rival for you guys like they are for UND, the atmosphere will lack the hostility that a Sioux/Gopher game would have. NDSU has a good team this year and could easily pull off a BCS upset but I can't honestly say I'm rooting for you guys.

Under no circumstance would I ever cheer for UND. So I cannot blame anyone for not cheering for the Herd. It is a big deal exclusively because it is a game against B1G team who is closeby. I personally hold no animosity towards the U of M, I always cheer for them to do well in sports. And the fact none of our guys got scholarship offers to play there I'm guessing serves as good motivation for the players.

  18. On the radio yesterday Kolpack said it was hilarious that UND was ranked. He actually used the word hilarious. What a professional he is.

Hilarious is an adjective that means extremely amusing. If he is extremely amused, as a professional journalist shouldn't he then use the word hilarious? You don't have to agree with him.
