"someone" at these protests ALWAYS says this and it just drives me nuts... (asking why protesters hate the nickname - and this is paraphrasing.....) "my child asked me...Mommy, why do they (fans) want to kill the Sioux?" This it totally a setup designed to elicit sympathy...WHEN is the last time you heard anyone chant "KILL THE SIOUX!" anywhere? anytime? Granted, there are a lot of crude things said at games, especially with heated rivals, but you have to consider the context...IT'S A SPORTING EVENT! How about you take you kid aside and explain that it's not a literal threat - if THAT'S not asking too much...

The really sad thing is it's 2007 and the protesters who demand "change" of the Sioux nickname will not (or can not) demand change of the very system that keeps most native americans tied to the reservations. They're trying to swat bees one by one when they should be going after the nest!

Straight from the horses mouth There is a nickname protest in the works outside the Alerus on Saturday with a group trying to pull the same crap another group did outside the Ralph last year...loud and vocal protesters inciting fans walking to the game and they'll be videotaping and selectively editing the "reactions" they get to forward on to the NCAA and media outlets. If you see them - please don't give them fuel for the fire. You might want to let others know too. It's a real shame they can't see INCITING what they will portray as "racism" only serves to feed what they are trying to end.

why not? a certain ag college has a former TV anchor working in their marketing department who landed them on FSN (regional sports network!) for 2 games this season doing also play-by-play and selling the game to advertisers. HATE TO SAY THIS but ndsWHO has something here...you could call it multitasking in a DI-world I guess but it's a great move for them....

You nailed it! UND needs to put this behind them as FAST* as they can right now...the way it unfolded has been STUPIDLY EMBARASSING! One of the biggest PR disasters in UND history and now all they've done is guarentee this will be drawn out for WEEKS until it's resolved...just the fact the Heraldo can print a headline like "BUNING SPEAKS OUT" on their front page saturday then all they have is some tepid emails they got through their lawyer? GREAT! They sold papers! They accomplished their purpose! What is UND doing to accomplish their goals? (* - and before "you guys" dive on this post - remember! OOOOOOOHHHHHHH! Rubbing it in? final thoughts on this one...the Sioux offense is AWESOME! No doubt! For all the years we "hung our hat on the defense" - it's nice to know we have the offensive punch to persevere in a shootout! Grand Valley can roll opponent after opponent in their conference but I for one am glad we get challenges because I think that makes us a better FB team...
