Would have been nice if the coaches would have given them some more snaps in some of our massive blowouts.  One of the things that has bugged me the most about this coaching staff.

I didn’t care that they didn’t play in the blowouts nearly as much as the fact that UND was getting blown out … that bugged me the most.

He's a UND legend in my book...think where we would have been without him?

Not as pissed off and with more playoff wins?

No one will ever know. He didn’t show up in big games (but that’s not entirely HIS fault), however, he was otherwise very consistent and played in a lot of games for UND.

I thought there was general consensus that UND’s recruiting has trended upwards recently. Maybe I am not remembering correctly?  Or maybe there was but seeing them on campus has proved otherwise?

I think it can be argued that the overall talent has actually improved, but it’s not by enough. A few positions may get better over a 4 year period, but then others fall back. Just not enough overall improvement.

also, though, remember that UND hasn’t won more than 7 games in a season since 2016 …

UND has regressed in the recruiting of high level athletes. This needs to change. So many positions on this team need to be more athletic, including safety, linebacker, receiver, and, dare I say it … quarterback.

hopefully the portal is utilized really well this year

I’m still skeptical the current staff will know how to position and use the student-athletes … but oh well

If he is the best candidate. All else equal, I would reward his loyalty. If we find a better candidate, the job should go to the best available candidate.

This is key. Allowing for an open application process is crucial.

imo fcs will dissolve before we ever get our jv championship like ndac and sdac.........

Nothing jv about flying (or driving) to Texas in January and celebrating with fellow UND fans while watching the team compete for a national championship … but yeah, not likely to happen anytime soon at this rate

No question our OL coach is an asset. I don’t think anyone has thought or posted otherwise. I feel we’ve been lucky he hasn’t been poached yet.

Most likely good scenario is Bubba retires next year, Danny Freund is elevated to HC, and Pawlak gets OC.

I don’t think you’ll see the “house get cleaned” so to speak, unless the 2024 season is an absolute disaster.

No I'm not happy about Saturday.  My original comment was facetious no doubt.  I didn't care for the carve regarding the hockey program is all.  It was the term "unfortunately" which I perceived as a carve.  Yes I want the football program to be better and more consistent, not at the expense of hockey though.  I probably took the post I responded to out of context.  Happens all the time these days with forums and texts etc...

UND hockey is No.2 in the country. Should be No. 1 (again). They will continue to do well.

Would be neat in the near future to have UND football finish in the top 10, or better yet, earn a national championship the same year as UND hockey does.

    EXPECTATIONS matter.

With Kilty and Donny V (prototype OL for the play) I told Freund he should be running the old Washington/Riggens "counter trey".

I'm sure he'll try it without them next season. < sigh >

I’m honestly surprised they weren’t running this (or really any counter for that matter) this season.

as the wise Bubba would say, hindsight is 20/20, so I guess we shouldn’t question it ….

Kilty with a Texas Tech offer already. Wow that was fast. Good for him!

wish und would hit the portal that hard and find some FBS guys. Obviously you can’t build a team on transfers but they’ve had pretty good luck the past few years with guys they’ve got to come in. Tells me they should increase the amount they bring in. Wish they brought in a few more last year, especially at LB, as many of us had mentioned after last season was done…

UND has under-utilized transfer portal in my opinion. Can’t build a team off it, but you can bring in more than 3-5 per season. Don’t be scared. Catch up with the times.

again, though, the instruction (or really the lack thereof) they end up getting after they arrive here is my major concern …

no evidence transfers will be put in position to get UND over the 7 win hump

Let's pump the breaks here a bit. Not even close to ideal, but before everyone goes overboard, let's see what the next 48 hours brings us.

    Same ol’

is 7-4 every season good enough?

there will be some intrigue with departures and transfer arrivals, but net difference will be the same … mediocre coaching on game day

When Bohl or Klieman had an FCS program and nine months to prepare for an FBS game they'd win it.

Coaching and preparation and a game plan to win.

Up next for UND: Iowa State
    Hear that Bubba?

    Guaranteed loss.

His contract does state he gets a bonus for beating FBS schools, but he sure doesn’t seem to care.

As long as we edge our way into the playoffs we can call the season a complete success. A home playoff game or a win (or both) would be nice, but definitely not necessary. I think we can all agree this would more than justify a 5-6 year extension for Bubba and Co. because if there is one thing this fan base and program needs .... its more griddy (but not too often).

It also might be a lot to ask, but if we can keep within 2 scores of SDSU, its basically a win!

Was hoping to make a trip down to a Frisco, TX in January, but I guess I’ll have to figure something else out for my January trip for the next 10-15 years, maybe longer …

and yes, yes, I know … there are nicer places than Frisco in January …

One side of argument is being poached. The other is the coach actually having desire to move up the ladder and challenge themselves.  Which is not happening here - it's like a country club

No pressure or accountability. All complacency and joy. It’s ridiculous.  major culture problem here at UND football with Bubba being the ringleader …

    Day by Day

Apathy well settled in at this point.

It’s been “prove it” time for UND football for a while as far as I’m concerned, and we continue to get 7-4 with occasional 5-6 and 3-8 sprinkled in.

I think this is what UND wants … the followers to be slowly but surely conditioned to accept this mediocre level of production and expectation. For Bubba and his staff, it means a lifetime contract.

Agreed that Danny was bad both games. The defense has to be better against Sac St though. It’s not like the defense was on the field the majority of the game and didn’t get any rest.

Defense had bad games (Sac State, Indiana State) and offense had bad games (South Dakota, UNI).

Dare I say it, is there an “overall” problem?

Who is the “overall” leader of this team?

The 3-4 defense just does not work at UND anymore. They don't recruit or just can't get the players for that scheme. Don't want to hear that it works for Bama and Georgia. Guess what, UND should not be in any sentence with those programs. It just hasn't been working and it's time to move on from it. Yes, maybe it's not the whole problem with the defense but why not just change it up? SDSU and NDSU don't use it!

Again, if you think base defensive alignment is the issue, then, well, think again. I definitely think changes on multiple levels are needed, but this isn’t it.

With that said, I don’t care if the base alignment is 3-4, 4-3, 5-2, 3-3-5, etc. I just want more competent football being played out on the field. No reason a defense should be so poorly coached that it gives up 3rd and long after 3rd and long time and time again. God awful coaching and defensive positioning/strategy by the coaching staff in those situations, which are supposed to be favorable to the defense, all season long.
