Sounds about like when Bubba said "Leave no doubt" back around 2015.   That didn't work out so well.

Actually, to be fair, the “leave no doubt” mantra was used in 2016 after UND was playoff snubbed in 2015. 2016 was Bubba’s best season, team went 9-2 and was seeded #7 in the playoffs. They of course went on to choke away a home playoff game lead but it was still a very good regular season (vs a horribly weak schedule) in terms of wins …

    1. I wish your venture well; however, I suspect its demise is more likely. I will be contributing directly to UND (for the tax implications) per usual.

    2. I can argue "success" either way. Three quarters of FCS would trade with UND in a heartbeat. But measured against the xDSUs it's not enough. Conundrum.

    3. Never trust an orange cat. One flooded a sibling's house. Not kidding. Tuxedo is the way to go.

    Agree with 1.

As for 2., remember the FCS is very top heavy. The average FCS team is not a good benchmark for UND due to how watered down the bottom half is. You essentially stated that with the xDSU statement. Only around 5-10 programs (if not less) are true championship contender each season in the FCS.

Now, how does Chaves view this? No clue. Probably content based on previous actions. Actions speak louder than words.

I’m not sure any finger pointing you can do here are towards the administration.   As hard as you want to spin it…..this is on the fans like me and you.

    As I said (typed).

FCS (and the G5) are now the minor or developmental league for the power schools. That's not defeatist; it's reality.

If the Texas hook-'em-horns want your NG they're getting your NG.

Given the current rulings, you’re correct. Hard pill to swallow for smaller programs. Need to be imaginative and proactive in order to combat this.

Fargo and NDSU are being proactive towards football.

UND made no coaching changes, but they will also sit tight on current Alston awards and do nothing else to prevent football program’s deterioration.

Not all on UND, of course; need supporters for UND football to step up and initiate a collective for football program. But hard to do that with the current lack of competent leadership in place for football program.

Man has October 14 ever lost its shine.

Unreal. One of the biggest collapses and coaching failures in recent memory. How everyone still has a job on UND’s staff after the post-Oct.14 letdown is even more pathetic.

Not necessarily.  Saban is 11 years older than bubba.  Saban has “it”. He can motivate and demands excellence. Bubba doesn’t.  He’s stale.  He’s boring.  Doesn’t exude any confidence.  Players respond accordingly

    Correct. You are correct.

You guys are providing comic relief for your NDSU pals who monitor this fan forum. Gives them something to do before their game tomorrow.

Our pain will only intensify if (when) NDSU pulls out another playoff upset in Bozeman …

Time to take a step back and reevaluate two weeks from now when the dust has settled. This program needs something to happen to stop the bleeding.

Yeah, for UND to make progress, they need to add at least 5 bona fide stars in the portal …

    … good luck

bubba said he had to look at himself too, if so he has did a poor job of that the past years

If he actually was doing that, he’d retire. It’s just lip service at this point.

Ralphie and the downvote dorks are out again!!!

Okay … ever think that maybe the hire made in late 2013 by Brian Faison was wrong? Ever?

Maybe it wasn’t wrong at that time (although in hindsight it definitely was wrong considering the alternative was current Washington head coach Kalen DoBoer) but it certainly is wrong now.

Perhaps, just perhaps, Bubba Schweigert - who has had the opportunity to serve 10 seasons as UND head football coach - and UND athletic department should recognize it’s time for a change. The current setup may just not be the best one for UND football at this time, and it’s okay to accept that.

Never said we need to bring in another DC that runs a 3-4, bubba needs to swallow his pride and change the scheme

Won’t do a thing … in my opinion … but it’s a nice little idea amongst a lot on here.

LB was thin this year, something needs to change big time and having 0 LB commits makes it even worse

It means the house just might indeed get cleaned a year from now …

The jimmys and joes are just as, if not more, important as the X’s and O’s. Turner would get home on 3rd and long often. We didn’t have anyone even close to that level of speed off the edge this year. Hit the portal hard. We need edge rushers.

Also, how in the hell do we have 0 LB recruits right now?

I agree with you. Defense is bare.

Having no next level talent on defense hurts. CJ Siegel has a chance, but anyone else? A DI program - whether FCS or FBS - needs some top end talent if want to be a national championship contending program.

The DC job could and probably should open up this offseason. This is something we should be pushing for because the defense this year was unacceptable. Something major needs to change and it’s not just a personnel problem. We can’t endure another season of poor defense.

Defense will be the same as long as the “defensive-minded” head coach stays around as the “leader”.

  16. This is an interestingly speculative thread. When the job opens, *when*, then I suspect a name or two will throw their name into the hat.

As for now, there is no job opening, and there might not be for a couple seasons yet … very frustrating indeed.

My post was about development of the QBs for 2024.  Your post is off topic - see thread title.

Oh the issues of 2023 will linger to 2024. Not much is changing. Different QB, sure, but not much else.

Smoke and mirrors. Smoke and mirrors.

I maybe didn’t phrase my thought the best.  What I meant was Tommy was a last minute stop gap addition to his recruiting class with zero division one offers and committed without even visiting.  To get three years of even average play out of him is actually kind of a miracle in my book…let alone what he did in many games in his career (albeit with big game struggles).

That’s as much an indictment on the staff as it is praise for Tommy.  Without Tommy 2021 spring season is probably a flop…and fall 2021 is likely even worse.

All fair thoughts; we’ll never know.
