  1. By my calculations using the Sioux Sports "what if" calculator, UND needs 3 more points to clinch home ice for the conference tournament.  That seems crazy to think.  Anyone want to check my work?

crazy to think is Duluth right now goes on road for NCHC, but would be a #1 seed for NCAA.

  2. Talked to Mason Morelli this past Saturday and asked him how the ice is at Scheels since the Bison play bouncy ball in there now. He said it sucked before they were there and now it really sucks. Said the USHL brass are looking into it. Not sure what they can do but that ice has never been good. Hopefully by the regionals they have something figured out. At least bouncy ball will be done in there by then.

UND would be wise to practice there all week.  Went to a game and water was still puddled on ice after over 5 minutes.  Also the boards and glass give some really goofy bounces.

  3. Article on Idaho  Thanks to Sioux Football Insider.

Spear has often spoke of Idaho football ending up in a "second tier" of conferences - below the Power 5, but above the FCS level. He said he thinks as the Power 5 conferences move further away from the other FBS leagues, that scenario could become closer to reality.

He envisions a league with Idaho and New Mexico State and some of the high-end Big Sky schools (including Eastern Washington, Montana and Montana State) in that second tier.

"I hear all the time from Big Sky Conference officials that there's not a lot of difference between the Big Sky and the Sun Belt," Spear said. "Well if there's not a lot of difference, then let's play at the same level."

He said if that second tier is going to happen, now is the time for Big Sky schools to make their move.

  4. Notre Dame may be just the attraction needed for ASU to accept an NCHC offer. If ASU and more possible PAC 12 members wasn't out there, Notre Dame probably wouldn't have interest. The NCHC is playing its hand wisely.

I get what you're saying.  Brings back the question of is it worth it if Notre Dame is still wanting special treatment?

  5. I still think ASU ends up in the B1G.  But with B1G being down do they really want another new potential bottom feeder?  I also think they want some assurances that it is temporary as ASU isn't close to the type of institution the B1G brands itself with academically.

Notre Dame will beg for same and B1G will say no.  Unless Notre Dame is ready to deal for FB.

Anyone know years left on CBS deal?  That's the big hang up for Notre Dame adding.  I do not want to see NCHC cave.  I like idea of conference deal for tv.  I like seeing the other games.  UND gets put on so much because of ratings.

  6. I believe the injury happened on a hit and someone who was there said it looked like maybe a shoulder injury but they weren't real sure. Not sure how long he will be out but he didn't play Friday night at Roseau in a 6-0 EGF win.

Bad bone bruise is what I hear.  He's out for a bit.  Would guess depends on pain.

  7. The new convention center will not be finished in Watford til early 2016. So would suspect Watford would sponsor a HS varsity team then. Maybe Sidney, Mt can co-op with Watford. Sidney is like 40 miles away.

When are the new high schools, Sheyenne and Legacy, going to have teams? Is Wahp-Breck satisfied with their Class A Minnesota pals. With hockey going full bore in Northwood, would they team up with Mayport to sponsor a team?

Anyone know why they went Minnesota in the first place? Was it because Breckenridge had the program first? They are one of worst teams in MN, but then so are most of those highway ten corridor and just south of that teams. I don't actually think they'd be any better in ND. It's just a curiosity.

  8. I'd be surprised if EGF and Bemidji aren't the two section 8 reps in St. Paul.

Best two teams I've seen this year.  Bemidji is fast.  Rest section 8A is not very good this year either.  Roseau also way down.

EGF got #1 goalie back, but lost one of better defensemen to a check from behind against Red River.

  9. I mostly got a kick out of Bethune being the poster child.  He's Canadian to start with so not sure how much of a shock it should've been.

You do have cases like Crookston's Paul Bittner leaving young and I believe his dad was the head coach.  And it has worked for him as he's ranked pretty decently.

Heck even girls are getting into the act as EGF lost 3 to AAA (or whatever classification) this year.

I am hearing some rumors that MSHSL may allow high school teams to play more games to combat juniors.  My feeling on it is that most of these kids aren't going straight to college or the NHL after high school, so why leave early?  How many are truly hitting the fast track?

  10. Sound sucks, the scoreboard are nice but fix the stuff on it. Have out of town scores updated more frequently. Have live stats. Would be nice to have cupholders, but I suppose that would take away from seating since the aisles are very slim as it is. Biggest thing to get people in the building...WIN!!

Lower level home side got cupholders towards end of season.

  11. I believe he graduated already so he can transfer to another FBS and not sit.

On the game today they said he graduated.  I know he started college spring of his senior year of high school so that would make sense.
