  1. I sure wish REA would put a tape together of all their material. The "were not in Kansas anymore" was a hoot as well. Plus the intros. I guess they probably will in the future. They do sell everything else.

  2. Maripukey holds around 10,000. The pop of the cities is well over a million. That means they need less than 1% of their population to show up. Even if the T-wolves, Wild, and Vikings were all playing, that would be around 100,000 available seats. That is still only 10% of the population.

I've been to Maripukey plenty of times. They plunk down big bucks to not show up to games. They arrive towards they end of the first and leave at the beginning of the third.

The Gophers only valid excuse for not selling out is the parking.

  3. The 7th graders I teach do more drinking than I do. The worst part is social services is too backed up to do anything.

Was anyone in Providence? After the game we found a keg in the arena and everyone started drinking. Then the NCAA stepped in so we moved to some bar. When we got to the airport, beer just appeared and we all had a good time (including the team). Lots of us were underage.

I'm sure almost every player drinks, they shouldn't be at a bar whether they are doing it or not. I'd like to think our players have some intelligence.

  4. I've driven through part of SW utah on the way into Colorado . It is charming in its own little way . I have been in salt lake city for 2 months, i am going to graduate school so hopefully this is a temporary stay.

What's it like living in Salt Lake? I'm going to drive up through that way one time to get back to GF. Not in the winter though.

    What are you studying?

  5. cheeringsiouxfanfromsmoggycali:

What made you move to california?

I took a 7th grade math teaching job at a very poor, very full, very mexican school. I have a 36 kid class of spanish speaking only students...I...Don't...Speak...Spanish.

It's year round, which is neat. Three months on and one off. I just always wanted to go somewhere different for a couple years and they offered me 40k plus a signing bonus. Can't complain about that. GF starts at 26k and that is highest in ND.

I'll be off for five weeks starting at xmas. Of course, the Sioux only have their tourney at this time, and the Wild will be in Cali when I'm in GF.

I should mention I'm in San Bernardino, which is 60 miles east of LA. Or about 2 hours of driving. Vegas is 3 hours away in the other direction.

  6. What has irked me the past few years is that my grandma has been buying two season tickets since the early '90s (as we all know these were some lean years). In the '80s she stood in line all day to get tickets. Now each and every year since the new building opened, she keeps hearing/being told her seats are going to be taken away. She's had to up her contributions to the fighting sioux club just to keep them. She gets to the game HOURS before hand, cheers, has a few heart attacks, and takes her high blood pressure pills. She also goes to all the Final Five's.

    Now that is a fan.

    She is almost 80.

I guess it is all about the benji's.

  7. Nah, I'll take our tradition of winning before UND even had a hockey program anyday! :( Count a few of the big wins before the inception of the NCAA and you may be a bit less vocal! :D

The site in question is always good for a laugh! Even if you are not a Gopher fan!

    WPoS

Just because I'm too lazy to search the internet and find out, but how MANY teams were around before the Sioux?

I'm talking college and not semi-pro teams here.

  8. Traveling IS expensive. Ask the gophers. Every year they go to a bowl game and blow houndreds of thousands of dollars on traveling (if not millions). Sure things are different for bowl games (longer stay and more players), but most team meals are paid for by the bowl. Close to a million dollars is a heck of a lot more than 65K.

On a side note; my cousin works for Arizona State as a video recorder. Last year they went to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. A one week stay in a four star hotel, cd player, fossil watch, shoes, clothes, and whatever else he needed. He's not even a player. Plus EVERYONE got X-Box's and games during the season.

And he got a ring...they lost the game.

  9. Join the club boys. While Bozeman isn't exactly a wasteland... in fact far from it, its gorgeous, I still miss sioux hockey... 12 hours away is just too far. I made it back for the BC series, and I will be home for the MN series... also might try and come back once or twice after xmas.

I do live surrounded by mountains, but it's rare that the smog allows you to see them. In fact I live on a mountain and can't see it some days.

On the ticket topic; I'm not talking about the students' seats being resold, but the other season ticket holders. For the most part, the students do sit and watch the game. Unless this has changed.

The students would show up to their seats earlier if they'd be allowed to drink while sitting in them. And why not? They're responsible for the seats now. Yeah, Yeah. Underage drinking. Why do you think they're late to begin with? :(

  10. I realize the old cliche' "nothing is for sure, except death and taxes".  With the way the cards are currently dealt, these money games are options.  10-20 years we may be able to see if the move was a good one or not.

Obviously football will have to be the cash "bison" for the rest of the sports (except bball), but doesn't it worry you that you have to count on these big pay days (and losses) in order to make ends meet?

Or, is it realistic to think that foundraising, ticket sales and concessions will be able to support the other sports you have?

I'm in no way saying don't go for DI. I wish you the best of luck. I'll just take a wait and see approach like most Sioux fans. We're just using you as guinea pigs.

  11. I was in the band for the last five years and it always was so sad that we were moved up next to the visiting fans. Then you look down and see about 1/3 of the lower bowl empty. What's even worse are those old time season ticket holders who don't even wear school colors. OR THEY WEAR THE OTHER TEAMS COLORS, because they don't bother to look at the schedule and see who we are playing.

I know they scan the season tickets; why don't they sell the empty seats as walkups? Or do they already? We need some sort of re-sell system.

  12. Since I moved out to this wasteland early this summer (where today it was 105), I never heard about the student seating situation.

    Were they moved?

Are they still forced to sit?

Amazing how the the cheering seemed to die off once the students had to sit. :D

Maybe if I go to grad school I'll use that as my thesis.

  13. In 4 years a $300,000 money game against a Big 10, Big 12 type team would easily replace the rivalry in terms of $$$$$.

What could be scary for NDSU is if teams like the Golden Chokers are no longer able to play a 1-AA team. Right now the stars and super-conferences are aligning, the BCS is coming up for renewal and D2 is supposedly looking to count only D2 games, then what is stopping these super-conferences and/or the NCAA from banning the "automatic win?"

This is only a hypothetical question at this time, but it has some merit. With the ACC at 12 teams (now) along with the SEC and Big 12, the Big 10 1/2 will add 1 1/2 teams and change its name and the PAC 10 will be forced to add 2 teams. These conferences already control the BCS and under no circumstances do they want a tourney. It's hard enough for any other conference to make any money, so they'll just want a tourney instead. I think we're looking at a total college football reclassification. The supers will be DI, the mid-majors will then become 1AA. This leaves the current 1AA somewhere in between IAA and DII. And also out of the running for big paychecks.

This rant is, of course, only one man's opinion of the soon to be future. I just don't think you can count on the money for games that aren't booked.

  14. I was actually surprised that the CSTV announcers didn't talk up BC more. All they talked about between periods was what UND needed to do. However, I am sick of hearing about Eaves. They weren't the best, but it did seem pretty fair.

On another note, I was in Vegas this weekend and went to the Imperial Palace and NO SIOUX FOOTBALL!

  15. Actually it was the intro to Lose Yourself, then they went into Crawling in the Dark by Hoobastank (yes that is a real band).

I still like the first one with Godsmack's Keep Away

Thanks for all the songs. I've been trying to find the Godsmack one for a long time. Whenever I ask, no one knows.
