  1. I know the national poll has nothing to do with the regional polls, but is still seems pretty odd that a team unranked in the national poll (and they only received a few votes) could be ranked number one in one of the toughest regions in dII women's basketball. The RMAC simply isn't any good, and never has been. Even in something of a down year for the NCC, I have a hard time believing an NCC team does not even merit a top-2 ranking.

Isn't the poll based off SSI- it was last year

  2. Careful. That one has two edges also. Don't be surprised to see NDSU doing the same thing (because NDSU lobbied hard for that aspect of "local control" with the State Board of Higher Ed).

It won't surprise me if they do- throw in some tuition waivers, and NDSU's "deficit" is the same this year as UND's was last year- that's the point my friend.....

  3. How much money is that really in the scope of an athletic department budget that is running seven-figure red ink? .

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The forum article projected a 1M deficit, but also said 100k would be shaved off with another home game (done), another forum article said Erv had raised 1/3 of the 1M

so assuming no more money is raised (unlikely)

1M - (333+100)= 567k deficit- admittedly not good -but not far off from the 406k deficit UND ran last year in DII with a "sold out" 27.50 FB game with NDSU and using institutional money in the form of tuition waivers to subsidize the athletic department

  4. With a 7 team conference- BB scheduling is a bit more difficult. Also- since UND is playing all of their conference games in the Ralph there are likely to be conflicts with Hockey which may cause some problems as well.

  5. The photo's aren't showing up for me, except Billy Ray

geocities (along with Tripod et al) does not allow "hotlinking"- if you want to see the picture you can right click on the "user posted image" and cut and paste the url

and no- it is not a mullet- but that does not make it right

  6. And when is that time relative to when NDSU raises the $8 to 16 MM for BSA renovations (while continuing to request Cornerstone funds)? ???

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    I never said they would

  7. How popular will it be when baseball gets dropped by NDSU and there is no college tenant for on-campus Newman Field?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Will that happen before or after UND and UM-D join the Horizon League as Travel Partners (it is unlikely UND would join the Big Sky as GF has no west-bound Flights), SDSU decides not to go DI because of USD, and Denver joins the Big Sky with UNC as a travel partner ???

  8. If you want an honest debate on the issue, yes.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If you want an honest discussion- you would have to see REA's books too. Call it a hunch but I don't see it happening.

As far as Forum coverage- which are people going to more interested in, a possible NDSU budget deficit. (it started at an est 1M- but they Taylor said another home game would take 100k off that-which they got, so from what we "know' it stands at about 900k and there have been anonymous donations) or UND moving to DI :silly:

  9. Except for North Dakota and North Dakota State, are there any other public universities in the state? As far as all that research money pouring in, I think that is fine as long as the schools remember they are there to give students a well-rounded education in many areas, and they should not become trade/tech schools for industry.--In my mind, that is what company training programs and community colleges are for.

off the top of my head

    Valley City State

    Mayville State

    Dickinson State

Minot State- all 4 yr public schools

it is also nice to see that Business week recognizes that ND has two "flagship schools" :silly:

  10. My point was simply that if you're comparing which football team is more popular in the state of ND, UND or NDSU, NDSU has a big advantage because 20% of ND's population lives in Cass County. So regardless of the allegiances of the rest of the state, NDSU will likely have more fans due simply to the fact that the Fargo area is so much bigger than any other city in ND. It will likely be able to draw a lot of fans from Fargo who perhaps grew up elsewhere and had no allegiance prior to moving to Fargo but would be far more likely to follow the local team rather than one 75 miles away. Similarly, if somebody moves to Grand Forks from outside the area, chances are that they will follow UND more closely. The difference is that Fargo-Moorhead has far more of these types of people from which to draw from.

These people also have other entertainment choices- 2 other colleges, RedHawks etc, also there is a large contingent of UND alums in the area. Being in a larger Metro definetly has advantages, but it has drawbacks as well. See the Gophers and their horrid attendance despite being in the biggest (outside of Northwestern) metro in the Big 10.

  11. the scoreless streak is quite impressive- even though UCW, Mesa, and Duluth are pretty bad, it is very easy for a D to give up points in garbage time which UND hasn't done- it will take a special team to win the Alerus- which I don't think exists in the NW region
