  1. With that reasoning we can then eliminate the military academies as being too wasteful and sending noninfantry branch officers to ranger school too,.
  2. Thank you BHO. For the cost this was probably very cost effective and drew more interest to ROTC. It is a fortaste of more things to come from this weak president who would rather subsidize foodstamps than provide jobs.
  3. Wasn't he just given an extension before this all happened with future NCHC schools approving? Back to the question of what was gained? It should be easier to get a TV package with a two division WCHA (larger footprint) that is now forming, and with a playoff structure tournament that makes money. Maybe some answers will be forthcoming when a commissioner is hired for the NCHC.
  4. Couldn't you just replace that leadership?
  5. That's the big question isn't it. Why form the NCHC with no league TV deal and a conference playoff structure that made money for everyone? What was the rush? Why not wait until you had everything in place? Seems like some large egos were exposed here. Notre Dame kicked this off when it was afraid of being left in the CCHA and sponsored a clandestine meeting with the present NCHC schools, enticing them to leave the WCHA. Now Notre Dame is playing the NCHC against the eastern conferences for some special terms. They are also caught up in the super conference realignment trying to stay independent or get a special deal with the Big Ten. It would be nice if this works out for UND and college hockey but I don't see were anything has been gained.
  6. Sorry to tell you but this is only the first part of a two part bill. The media has a bias and doesn't tell the whole story. This just opened the door for getting CalGrants which is taxpayer money. It also reduces the amount in the fund available for students whose parents obeyed the law and paid their taxes. I don't want to punish the kids but why are we giving everything away? But on the bright side California is broke and will have to close everything anyway once it can no longer borrow and everyone is unemployed and cannot pay higher taxes.
  7. Pulling a student athlete's scholarship who is doing everything asked of them is a very unethical. An athletic scholarship is awarded on a year to year basis. It may be revoked during that time due to failure to perfom academically, breaking team/institutional rules but not for injury or a lack of athletic performance. If the athlete is notified that they will not have the scholarship renewed for the next year they have the right to a hearing by a panel not controlled by the athletic department. If a student athlete decides to fight then they can make a good case for themselves, especially if the coach has no documentation showing counseling and performance objectives along with personal improvement plans. Many student athletes in my experience do not want to fight for the scholarship as they feel unwanted and a hostile environment has been created for them at the institution. Additionally, they have often given up other opportunities offered by other schools and getting another award can be difficult depending on when they are notified of the nonrenewal. Pulling a scholarship from a player (for performance) shows that a coach is not a good evaluator of talent and/or a poor developer of talent. This is not something they want on their resume or as a part of their evaluation. This is also a public relations problem for the coach and program as former players can undermine recruiting efforts if they have been dumped. With the proliferation of social networking it is even more harmful for a coach to runoff a player or pull their scholarship. Per the NCAA Manual: 15.3.2.4 Hearing Opportunity. The institution
  8. We may have been higher with two wins over #67 Drake. Both matches were 2-3 losses so UND is a good program and should only get better. Keeping the coach is a key and hopefully no school with better support in facilities, attendance, salary, broadcasting on televison and internet and recruiting ability will approach. These are important for all of UND's programs with the new conference.
