  1. We could if we hung frozen four banners or "participant" banners like Jan Brady Tech College. The only title that either the Gophers or Sioux covet is one that elluded us both this year.
  2. 7>4, are you talking about Parise about 1,970 years ago?
  3. Agree with Woog being an excellent hockey coach. Winning the national title has so many components, as I rattled off on an earlier post. Coaches help get you ready to play. Players win or lose games.
  4. hmmmm. I remember calling them the GOlden Chokers back in the 80's, i am not sure when it became integrated into the lexicon or popular culture of college hockey. I think Delta Don had a similar run back at CC where they had huge seasons and couldn't win it. I am not worried about coaching. Dave Hakstol should get a contract extension. Noone's calling for tDon's head, and he hasn't won it in what 4 years now
  5. Toews and Oshie in the mix for captain? Wow glass is half full, eh? Toews is gone for sure. His performance in the shootout alone at the WJC had Chicago salivating. Speaking of the WJC, Chorney wore the C their for his country as the leader of the best teenage american hockey players. If he could wear it for the red, white and blue, he can wear it for the green, white and black.
  6. Buckysieve, you must be a genius in order to hand out the logic criticism. I am surprised you are trolling on this site and not on your yacht in St Tropez with the Victoria's Secret modeling personnel with your clear intellectual superiority. Why come over to gloat? If any Sioux posters gloated on GPL following the Regional final, I apologize for their lack of class. Gophers won a couple nice pieces of hardware. I again reiterate that neither one of the teams had their season end the way they wanted. I would trade every Broadmoor and McNaughton to keep knocking the Gophs out of the NCAAs.
  7. And he was 14 the last time the Gophs did. Big deal. The Fighting Sioux ended the Golden Gophers' season. That is a fact and is the bottom line. Minnesota is an elite program and rode a great first half to the regular season title. I certainly feel better about getting ousted in the frozen four by BC than I would feel had we been ousted by the Gophs in the regional. Minnesota should win it every year if the games weren't ever played. Let's see, a metro area of 3 million people, a ton of talented kids playing youth hockey who grow up watching Woog and Mazocco (sp). A Top 50 national University with 60,000 students. Some top 30 programs at Carlson and IT, the Blarney What is the argument about who had a better season? Who cares, neither of us is hoisting the piece of hardware that our programs covet. McNaughton and Boradmoor are nice, but we all know neither team is happy with their season. The goal was not achieved. If it were easy, everybody would win it. It takes the right team chemistry, the right players, the right coaches, the right matchups, some guts, some skill, some meanness, and some puck luck. The puck will drop again in October, and there will be new faces and names. The rivalry will remain.
  8. Woog was made fun of as the perennial bridesmaid, because it happened so often. You can't make the comparison in three years of Hakstol vs 11 years of the Wooger
  9. In the last 24 hours I have seen two of the most absurd things I have ever seen in 31 years of playing and watching hockey. 1. Porter gets called for interference playing the body with the puck two feet away 2. Calling for the coaches head when he has taken our team to the frozen four three consecutive years. Also, mind you all, He has done this with teams with low expectations. Hakstol is inarguably a great coach. How can you explain a trip to the frozen four with a team that was given up for dead at Christmas. Lose Stafford, Lose Zajac, lose Parise, lose Smaby and still go to the frozen four. I think Hakstol encourages teams to find their own identity and gets the most out of the players he has. Yeah, Toews is as special as they come, and Oshie isn't far off. We had a very successful and winning season. Another Frozen Four. It hurt to lose last night, but let's get real. It was a great ride.
  10. Wow, awful lot of Trolls. Domination? That's a bit over the top, wouldn't you say? considering BC never lead until late in the third. Shots are not a good representation of how close a game was. You have to consider shots attempted, powerplay shots, rebound shots, shots from a decent angle. I would say that BC had some better chances, but a lot of those were on the powerplay, where they clicked and we struggled yesterday. Last time I checked, the only shots that matter at the end of the game are the ones that ended up in the back of the net. You can generate a great scoring chance without a shot on goal for the statistician if you pull one high or just wide. Schneider is not getting as many props as he should. He made two or three terrific saves on Duncan on that pp in the first. Duncs doesn't usually come up short in those situations. Why are the Gopher trolls coming over here to gloat, I didn't know that the U of Minnesota was in the Frozen Four, oh yeah... they aren't, because we beat them in one of the best hockey games of the year, after losing to them in the other best hockey game of the year. BC is a great team. Fast, skilled, old school hockey east style. We couldn't beat them up due to tight officiating, and they were able to get the job done. Congrats to them. PS, have any of you seen the Blake Wheeler home video on youtube from after the final five where he is wearing a Sioux jersey and yells "have fun golfing". What a moron. If he didn't know that the Sioux were still going to the FF after the final five, his daddy wasted a lot of dough on that exopensive prep school education.
  11. I thought that Kessel worked out some sort of one-way deal. How did BC keep Brian Boyle for 4 years?? A 6 foot 7 first round draft pick four year player? That's almost absurd these days. He had a very good year last year too.
  12. The problem for free agents is that they have no leverage to keep them out of the AHL. Toews will be offered a one-way contract to Chicago and will get the league max for a rookie. He will have no incentive whatsoever to stay at UND. Stanley Cup or MacNaughton? hmmm tough one there. Oshie is an interesting question. If he gets offered a one-way deal, he'll go too. I am pretty sure St Louis will make him the same sweetie pie deal. So, he will be gone too. Where we are especially vulnerable is at D. If Chorney turns pro we are in a world of hurt for next year. I just want to keep the defensive corps together. Let them mature another year. Chorney became a bonafide superstar back there this year. Lee was a bit inconsistent, but I bet he's been injured or something. Finley has improved by leaps andd bounds. Genoway shows potential, Jones Jr has gotten a lot better since last season, and Bina really became a key player this year too. I am worried that Big Joe will turn pro, because of the ticky tac penalty callig he gets against him in this league. I am sorry if he is a foot taller than some guys, where is he supposed to put his elbows? All the powers are going to keep losing the top talent forwards after 2 years, so what we need to do is to keep and build defensemen and role player forwards.
  13. Isn't BC maroon and gold too? We've got nothing to be ashamed about. It was a great year. I can't wait for October! How about Evan Trupp centering Duncs and dare I say it...TJ ( please come back, kid) next year. Maybe put Hextall with Watkins and the Dutchman? I expect much bigger numbers from Kozek next year.
  14. I just wanted to start a thank you post to our seniors. These guys defined the spirit of the Sioux, hard work, tenacity, strength and skill. These guys all accepted their roles and came out and gave it up every night. Foyt kept going to practice despite limited playing time, Porter was a leader and a force out there, Fabian was a terrific mucker digging in corners and putting other teams on their heels. You will all be missed. Three consectuive trips to the FF and you guys were a big part of all of it. subcomment: TJ and JT, thanks for always creating out there and making it exciting every shift, good luck in the big show.
  15. I think the refs were too concerned about calling the penalties even and dictating the flow of the game. The best officiated games are ones where you hardly even know the ref is on the ice. Either way, poor officiating did not cost us the game. Tough loss.
  16. I feel for Porter and Fabian, they probably still have their jerseys on.
  17. The Porter interference penalty is a clean check in every league on the face of this earth. The puck was about two or three feet from both players, he squared up and checked him clean. The calls and make up calls were really sad. Regardless of outcome, I hate to see ticky tac and make up calls in a national semi final. Let them decide it five on five. The funniest was after the Porter boarding call, which was boarding, the BC player who had been laying on the ice like he'd been shot was all smiles back on the BC bench.
  18. Tough loss, BC is a great team and deserved to win. They were quick and tenacious. Lammy kept us in the game, the Sioux D were not up to snuff, even normally rock steady Taylor Chorney looked like he was having problems. Penalties are part of the game, however, I ask what the refs are doing taking their whistles out every minute in the last five minutes of a national semi-final?! Best part of the end of the regional final against the goofs was the refs let the boys play. I am not going to spout off about reffing, as they don't dictate the outcome of the game, the boys on the ice do. However, NCAA officials: You wrecked the ending of a great hockey game regardless of the outcome. You should not be calling ticky tack penalties in the last five minutes of a national semi-final. The refs didn't cost us the game, but the refs hurt the overall quality of the game. Side note: I met some grat Gopher fans 2 weekends ago, but I may have met the worst Gopher fans in history last night, cheering loudly for BC, spelling Minnesota when BC scored, AND get this MAKING FUN OF BINA'S BROKEN NECK, I haven't been in a physical altercation since early college, but I almost did last night over that.
  19. 45 minutes!!! Get your mean-on! Game is won or lost by the second and third lines. Porter, Fabian: go out on top guys! Rylain, Matt, Dutchman, Kozek, make me excited about 2008. DOT just keep on doing. Are we undefeated with Zajac jr scores?! GO Sioux!!
  20. If I ever meet Dubay in person, iam going to first make out with his girlfriend/wife and then take his mother out for a lobster dinner and call neither of them after. Any of you ss guys at or going to sensers? I would like to see who somw of you are
  21. Wasn't Murray Baron on the PP on that 86-87 team? Hrkac circus was the greatest line ever in college hockey. The Broten Broten Erickson Rams in the old John was probably second all time. I'd be curious to see the greatest Sioux line in history in terms of +/- Did Troy Murray play with Sykes and Eades?...I was pre-kindergarten in those days. Ykes, Smail and taylor were great How about the power line in coach Hakstol's days: Greg Johnson with Russ Romaniuk and Dixon Ward? Hrkac Circus was unstoppable
  22. "I want that Porter-VandeVelde-Fabian line to continue to contribute. We need a second consistent scoring line and it'd be a great way for those seniors to get some points on the way to #8." Not to be picky, but Watkins skates with Porter and the Dutchman. I like them to score along with the Kozek, Kaip, Fabian line.
  23. Your right about the "lean" years at the end of the Gino era. I like to forget about those years from 91-96. From 86/87 to present: MN: 17 NCAA appearances, 8 Frozen Fours, 3 trips to the big game and 2 titles ND: 11 NCAA appearances, 7 Frozen Fours, 5 trips to the big game and 3 titles Obviously I cherry picked to 86/87...go 87/88 it knocks us down one on all of those.
  24. Why would we be obsessed with the fourth most successful program in our conference as far as national championships are concerned? Obviously that is in jest, they are a great program and have a winning record vs almost everyone (including us). But we have the best winning percentage in NCAA post season history!!!! AND we're still playing hockey!!!!!! I am waiting to hear about EJ turning pro. As for biggest rivals, it depends on who you ask, and what era you refer to. Same with us, I bet if you asked a lot of Sioux alumni who were in school between 80-84, they would vote Wisconsin number one rival. Mn and NoDak have been the most consistent front runners in the WCHA over the past 15-20 years, obviously Denver had a good run and CC had a good run, but consistently, you know the Sioux Gopher games are going to matter at the end of the year!
  25. Subcomment: Due to fear of the DOT line exploiting Boyle (and others) on D, and the lack of offense out of the BC D-men, will the Eagles simply not involve the D in the offense except in powerplays? I want to see Toews and Duncan on an odd-man against Boyle!
