At the REA, UND is 3-2-1 last six against UMD.

    Not bad. I'll take it.

I'm shocked that your beat writer would call a split like that.

For some reason I thought I remembered it being Farley. I remember thinking there was a bit of a flop on the Duluth's guy part but I was at the other end of the ice so I didn't get a good look.

They both flop a lot so it's easy to get them confused.

Sandy is ex-Sioux, so he's soft too.   You have to factor that in.

My conspriacy theory is that he's actually trying to lose the games against UND. That would explain their terrible record against the Hawks under his reign. Although I believe UMD is 3-3 in their last 6 games at the Ralph (it's either 3-3 or 2-2 in their last 4)

I really am hoping for a tic-tac-toe highlight goal from the CBS line this weekend.

How about just some tic-tac-toe? That's fun for the whole family.

  5. I was really surprised by the UMD crowd. Lots of empty seats , they weren't very vocal or into the game and an overall lack of atmosphere. Really a shame for a team that good.

UND had a great turnout with lots of green evident in the stands and the bars.

Empty seats are annoying but they had zero to cheer about. That will happen when you get shutout

  6. Put it this way:  I'm glad this team is not a one-trick pony like a certain poster we know who seems to have no real interest in the game itself and takes his pride from something over which he has absolutely no influence or control.

Now, the team (the reason we are here).  If we were Daloot fans, we would be saying we beat them soundly but ran into a hot goalie--and with some justification.  We feel great with that shutout, but the Dogs looked quicker and gave our D fits much of the time.  They forced some turnovers like we have not seen this year.  That team definitely has potential.  In some ways they look like Sioux teams in recent years who could do everything but finish.   It will be a very interesting game tonight.

Well thank you, its been an odd season. High expectations and yet it seems like they've literally run into a hot goalie in many of their NCHC conference losses. tonight's a huge test for this team who I thought had turned the corner. Perhaps last night was just a blip on the radar as UMD starts to gell and get better. I expect them to a NCAA team and factor in the tournament in March. A victory tonight would go a long way to helping UMD in that regard.

I should add that UND's D gave UMD fits. Every pass or shot was blocked or contested, UND really clogged shooting lanes and made it easier for Johnson. There was some puck luck against UMD but that will happen.

  7. Okay, its easy to spot the Duluth Trolls, but are there any real bad UND guys like that on forums/twitter? Who are they? Its naive of me to spout off about how bad those select few are when we probably have them in our fanbase too.

there's a guy on USCHO who has posted recently. I know I've got some UND followers on Twitter who troll me but it's all in good fun for me.

  8. it's ok. They stay pretty wide on their main camera and have a massive scorebug in the top left. I believe announcers are just the radio feed. They do have replays. And it's 720p but I believe only a wide and slightly less wide camera. No corner or slash cameras for other angles.

Honestly it is the worst in the NCHC. Tough to see the puck at times and the scoreboard is hard to read. Don't even bother trying to figure out how much time is left in the PP. The announcing are done by the local tv crew, a local guy and a UMD alum on color.

They have HD cameras in the building but the local station doesn't broadcast in HD...sounds like in the coming years that will be fixed. Embarrassing for the school that its one of the worst in the NCHC. Even freaking BSU has HD. And they're in a town a quarter the size of Duluth (and 1/6th of the population of the surrounding cities).

  9. For those attending the games this weekend, Saturday is Duluth's annual toy drive.  Feel free to bring a toy to contribute.

Good timing because I know all the Fighting Hawk fans bought plush "Fighting Hawk" toys to commemorate the new nickname

  10. Oy, I said before the game this board would look just like GPL of the game last night had gone like last weekend.   I'm just grateful it didn't.   No one enjoys what happened to MN more than me, but last thing I'll do is gloat publicly at this point in the tournament.  Bad karma

Plus when you guys post stuff from there they laugh and call you obssessed. Doesn't look good.

  11. Houghton is 6 hours from St Paul - in IDEAL driving conditions. The reason Tech had so many supporters was because a good number of Gopher fans showed up to cheer for them (wearing Tech jerseys) and because it's the first time since the early 1990's that the Huskies were in the title game. I'm guessing that had a few fans wanting to make the trip.

There was like four Gopher fans cheering for them. They had a bunch of students make the trip down and ....

Tech alumni are mostly engineers, likely live in the Twin Cities, Wisconsin, and Michigan, are very loyal, and have money to travel, unlike most UP'ers.

    ...you said it.
